I received over $500 from family for getting my Eagle scout, but don't know what to do with the money. Buy my holy grail with a decent chunk of it, or save it. I wasn't even expecting gifts at all, but should I treat myself for earning this, or be wise and save it all?

I do have future expenses such as car insurance and college, but this model only comes up once every while and i've worked hard to get this rank. It would be a huge token of achievement for me; both earning eagle and finally getting this model as it's been a dream of mine.

I echo Craig's statement. Whenever I accomplish one of my bigger goals I like to celebrate with a model honestly. Evey time I look at those models I am reminded about my past successes and to keep pushing :)

But keep your eyes peeled and don't overpay for a model :) Save the rest then for sure.

I thought the old UT Models were right around $50 USD when new. That's what I used to buy all my old UTs, Minichamps, and AUTO arts for.

Stick with it, you'll appreciate it once its done. It's such a sense of accomplishment. I had exactly 3 months to go when I went to the board. That means i'll be able to get a palm too! But don't give up on it. Otherwise you'll regret it

Congratulations Snackwel5 - that's a great achievement! Scouting was a major part of my upbringing and both my parents spent most of their lives as part of the movement! Well done!!

Pick 5 cars you would buy if you could, then list specs, how much a 2 year loan would cost, 5% interest on the loan. I'm pretty sure it was intended for $20,000 cars, but I had the Jaguar XJ220, McLaren F1, Lamborghini Murcielago, Maserati MC12, and the Enzo Ferrari, so you can imagine how much an interest rate would be for $13 million hahaha

Any good suggestion for a good display cabinet from IKEA? One just opened in my city and was curious what's the best one for the money. Looking to hold maybe 40 1:18's

I owned both detolf and klingsbo. Liked klingsbo better. But for that money I would get two detolfs.

Get the Ikea Billy with glass shelves.
Buy and install an extra 2 shelves, which will give you 10 shelves including the bottom one. 4 cars per shelf thats 40 cars comfortably.

Sorry for another update regarding the McLaren1 F1 (last one I promise), but should I get the UT McLaren F1 for $40 shipped, or just finally buy the AUTOart version for $220? The UT looks like a nice in between from maisto and AUTOart, plus it's $180 cheaper so I can wait until i'm financially stable to get the Autoart?

As 'into' this car as you seem to be, I'd go for the AUTOart version. Yes, it's expensive, but this is one model AUTOart really nailed in my opinion.

Actually, I recommend you get the UT. It's not bad at all for only $40, especially if you just try it out as a placeholder. You could always upgrade to the AutoArt when you can afford it, but until then, you would have an F1 hole in your collection...

On top of 1:18 AUTOart McLaren F1 i'm desperately fighting to get, I also noticed on the AUTOart website that they're re-releasing the Porsche Carrera GT in black and silver. Might be able to get the silver for far less than $300 hahaha

Looks like i'm gonna have to get the AUTOart McLaren F1 in 1:43 scale as the last one in black sold on ebay before I could get it. Very upsetting to know I may not be able to get my holy grail in 1:18.... :(

Wish parents would understand that diecast cars are more than just "collectibles" or "toys", and that they are what make us happy and are apart of us in some way. and that $250 isn't too much for something that will bring a lot of happiness to us for time to come...

It's because, well it's what 118 and Natasha said. 250 might not seem like much right now, but when you move out that's 250 bucks that coulda gone to food, rent, taxes, insurance, etc. There's nothing wrong with getting something nice once in a while though.

Got my first ever PAYCHECK today! Oh what a door is opened when you get your first job that pays very well.... Now comes the decision: save for a real car (earlt 2000's BMW), or get some great models?

Thanks all for the kind words!

Fast Merc- I'm thinking of a 2002 BMW 330 sedan. I was really wanting a 97' M3, but that's a little too much (for now)

    sepp- HA! I wish

mkha- A new car would be nice, but i'm skeptical of taking out any loans in my life. The whole concept scares me

marian- I really want to spoil myself with that AUTOart McLaren. That would keeped me covered for quite a while getting my one and only holy grail. O...

DND-I'm planning on getting it in cash. Also, I completely agree with having a budget. That's a top priority for me as I know temptations will eventually get the best of me

spiky- I agree. One model, then save for the real car. Nothing like the feeling of driving your own car (so i've heard). And you only live once, so why not treat yourself once in a while! My whole life ahead of me will be all about saving

That's true about the helment, but the luggage is a major pull factor. Thanks for the imput, guys! I'm gonna go with the silver version even if it costs more. Can't substitute a holy grail!

No, it's a great model i have the white one, but the autoart version is a more complete model from what I have seen, but if you can't stretch to the autoart price then get a gt autos. I'm pleased with mine it displays nicely amongst my highend and budget models.

Yeah i'm aware of the stellar details that the AUTOart version has like the luggage and opening front compartment. I really want it, but I can't justify spending $315 for a model. I can probably find the GT version for $75 if I find a good seller. Just wish the front opened on it though... it makes a really cool shot when the front, rear, and doors are all open at once

Why did the price for the new AUTOart Veyrons jump up to $300+? That's a $25 price increase... Also, have you guys seen the new AUTOart Ford Gt in black with gold rims? Very tempting and a reasonable price too

The bronze rims are apparently a throwback to the GT-40 of the 1960s, but they're not my cup of tea on the 2003-06 GT. I want to buy the Titanium Grey GT when it becomes available. As for the Veyron price increases, Wes' information is correct.
