Anyone ever try photographing models with an iPad? Might just do that instead of buying a new lens for my DSLR.
Genuinely can't remember the last time I bought a model.. it must be 18 months at least, and there's nothing I want still
ChallNot a bad place to be. You can enjoy your collection from a more level-headed place. There is the thrill of the chase, but it does ugly things to you if you're not careful.
I spent a lot of money this month too. But I'm happy with what I have right now. I'm no longer in a hurry to grow the collection. I'm looking forward to a 3-month purchase break.

silverstar189Ive slowed my model lust right down to healthy levels, three since November and before that a four month gap. sold a few too. bought the autoart alfas from ck but cancelled my order as I knew it was an impulse buy.
jandro_f1This hobby shamely is dying... there are no more interesting die cast companies that manufature detailed models... autoart, kyosho and minichamps are a joke compared to what they did years ago...

Quick poll: Exoto Jaguar XJR-9 in Castrol Daytona Winning #61, or Le Mans Prototype?
Jersey_DevilI'm disgusted at the thought of naked racing cars - where are our morals? Castrol, you pervert!
ChallOh wait, snackwel5, I thought your second choice was the Silk Cut Livery rather than the plain BRG car.
In that case, I'm going with the plain color car.
History is one thing, but still like my prototypes naked ^_^.
What do you want the car for? Do you want to be reminded of a moment in history? Do you just love the shape of the car? That will help with your choice.
snackwel5Looks like there's an overwhelming favor for the Castrol lol. That's the one I've been leaning towards the most, but the prototype does look nice as well. Since they would be the same price, the #60 is a no brainer. To make my decision even clearer, I even received an offer for a #60 20% cheaper than the other one.
And Chall - I've always loved the car ever since seeing it in GranTurismo 4, and it's been a model that I didn't think I would own since the pric...

Last night I picked up one of the last models I thought I'd never own in a color I believed I'd never see: the Exoto Nissan R89c Works Prototype. The door issues are sobering (they won't stay up), but--because my level of patience and gratitude borders on insane--everything else makes up for it. Also, I've done a fix / workaround that makes me smile.
snackwel5Wow excellent add! That sucks about the doors, but hopefully you picked it up for a nice price!
ChallThankfully, I did. About 70 USD less than my max bid. It was still a wallet buster; I'll be feeling the effects for the rest of the year. No regrets though.

Worried about the two shelves of books above the shelves of my models collapsing and destroying everything. Am I losing my mind?
Jersey_DevilMove the books! It's not worth worrying about and doing nothing and I've had too many spontaneous bookcase disasters to not encourage you to take that step!
AutobahnIt's not crazy. I have lost some great models in a couple of shelf collapses. Worry about the view later and rearrange your cars and books to protect the cars; that'd be my advice. Good luck!
raceguy1183That's why I have acrylic display cases for all my cars so no more worries of that sort. But then I don't have a bookshelf near my models anyway. Nevertheless, in your face, Laws of Physics. In other words, no more worries about cars rolling off edges of shelves

Is a 1/18 Minichamps SLS AMG for €50 a steal?
CraigI had the Minichamps DE Roadster in Brown, it looked nice but wasn't a great model.
€50 for an SLS seems ok to me though.
Feb 23 2017 03:57 AM
jazzy426won't say it is a steal but fair price. i got a roadster and hardtop version several years ago at 29 each when they were dumping the less popular colour one.. details wise Minichamps definitely is more superior but not as good compares to old Minichamps releases
Feb 23 2017 07:31 PM
///M meisterNorev's SLS looks like a better model to me, if I was in the market for an SLS, I would go for the Norev.

Ouch ouch ouch, 2 nerve blocking injections in my L4 & L5 today. very painful haha.

Only 1 nomination so far for January POTM. Can we please have nominations open throughout the month (e.g. have March nominations open from 1 March to, say 15th April)? Otherwise people are going to forget what cool photos were uploaded.
Red_BaronAgree with ironsim. Its 2017 and were still living with dial up image size requirements (SIZE not dimension!).
Feb 21 2017 10:05 AM
CraigI've just added one :)
Ok guys, can you put these requests into a thread please ?
It's easier for us to look at that way, thanks guys.
Feb 21 2017 10:08 AM
spikyoneCraig, I've added it to colourkin22's thread http://www.diecastxchange.com/forum1/topic/195649-potm-thread/#entry3649641

I waited a week for an eBay seller to tell me he shipped my purchase and when I msg'd him, he replied that "one of his assistants dropped the box and the model broke". He says he's looking at a replacement but if it doesn't work out by tomorrow he'll refund my money. Hmm...
mairandeddyDid he say what actually was 'broke' on the Lola Red?? Would it be worth fixing it yourself?
Feb 23 2017 05:45 PM
technicaSounds dodgy. Sounded like he regret selling the model. Unless he has photos to proof...
Feb 23 2017 06:45 PM
Jersey_Devili tend to agree, technica, but if he ever contacts me to replace it, I'll take that back. As for repairs, I have neither the time, tools nor patience to do so. My modeling days are long over and happily so. Besides, I took on two other damaged models today and am not thrilled about that. See my postings in Diecast Disasters and eventually my collection thread for details.

Which online service do you recommend for photos? I've been using photobucket but would like to use something else.

My collection thread just passed 16,000 views - thanks, DXers! Now just 381,677 to catch up to Darren (drivinghermad); guess that comes of my being a niche collector - LOL!
colourkin22Darren is right, most of us are just browsers and admirer's lol. I get exactly 2 comments when I post something new in my thread, talk of a niche collector hehe. That said, congrats JD on hitting 16,000!.
Feb 19 2017 12:41 PM
Jersey_Devili appreciate the luv - not complaining, just in awe (of my AND Darren's view numbers). And now that the site is working properly again, I was able to fix the dead photo links in my thread (though I still don't know why they went dead since they all are still active and working).
