Hi guys, I've recently got two Renault 5 Maxi Turbo (this one, driven by Carlos Sainz: http://otto-models.c...xi-5-turbo.html), directly from Otto. One for me and one for my brother, both collectors.
The box seemed to be already open (outer box not present, tape cut, plastic bag and protective paper not present), and the model has some issues:
-bad decal
Attached File  4.JPG   34.22K   4 downloads
-right mirror missing
Attached File  1.jpg   34.7K   4 downloads
-front left splashguard missing
Attached File  2.jpg   30.45K   3 downloads
-rear splashguards badly attached/detached
Attached File  3.jpg   36.89K   1 downloads

I contacted after sales service and they offered to send me the missing pieces and a new decal.

In my opinion the model should be changed, because it could be reasonable to fix splashguards or mirror, but it's not to change a big decal like this black one. Maybe, besides, it's under a layer of protective paint, so it's really really difficult to make a good job. I'm not able to do it, for sure.

Do you think I'm right?

The point is that this model doesn't have only one problem, but four.. and for sure someone opened it before receving it (the box containing the two models, however, was ok).

That sounds really dodgy, I've never had a model from them that has been opened etc.
I'd ask for a replacement. They've always been good with me, so hopefully they pay the return shipping cost too.

It sounds very strange to me, too.
I bought other times from Otto and everything was good.

I hope they'll allow a substitution.

Sounds like customs to me, bet they opened up both cars to check what they contain.

Customs between two EU countries? It sounds me strange, like everything in this story.
The external package seemed good, anyway. Posted Image

However, Otto offered me a refund, with back shipping at their own expense.
I asked another model with delivery at my expense.. waiting for an answer, but I hope they will accept, because economically it should be the same thing for Otto.

It's about 10 years I buy models from foreign countries, especially Germany but also France, UK, Spain, Greece, once Canada.. never had problems.

Update: they aren't able (or maybe they don't want) to change the model, so I asked the missing pieces to try to fix the model.

Until now, they sent me the right mirror but the wrong splashguard (received a right splashguard, different from the left one missing).
No decal.

I add that the second model doesn't have the front license plate, so I asked also this decal. I hope I'll receive it.

:mad2:

I'd give them some time to send them, and if they don't arrive ask to return it.

A few days ago they said that the "black decal" is not a decal, but painting, so they can't send it.
The interesting thing is that they said it was a decal, not me!
I think I'll add mirror and splashguards and keep the model.

They should send "quickly" the front license plate (this one should be really a decal) for the second model.
This will be the third envelope sent to me to fix the problems.

I will let you know.

Well, at the end received the decal, too.

I have a question for you: what kind of glue should I use to fix the mirror and the splashguards?

Does it dry clear Igor? (I guess not though) I need a glue that dries clear for something. I'm not fussed how long it takes to dry.

Otto told me "glue gel" or "Patex glue" (maybe Pattex?). :dunno:

I don't know what to use, I have a very little experience. I could try the Microscale suggested here.

Update: at the end I fixed the model with suggested Micro Kristal Klear glue. The result is good, so I give a positive feedback on it (I have a very little expertise on this kind of works) and thanks to who suggested it: good strenght, dries clear so you don't see almost anything, seems to be not too aggressive. The only "difficult" thing is that it dries in a bit of time, so you have to find a way to keep the pieces together until the glue dries.
I used it also on another couple of little issues on other models.

Hope not to visit this section again.

Thanks also to Otto for after sales assistance, even if I'd have liked best a full substitution with a new model (not available - but they offered a full refund).

Always curious to know who damaged the model..
