I'm sure you guys won't be taken in here, but I've noticed a few 'too good to be true' model sellers on ebay over the past few days.

These price are a little too good to be true! :giggle: The sad thing is people are buying them! :gaah:

I've seen a rash of these lately:

322324789472
322328954150
252637026996

Photos are taken from other sellers' listings. Looks like most people realize it's a scam because the bids don't go super high but there is still some poor sap stuck holding the bag at the end... I reported these but I don't know if eBay will do anything about it, the report item form doesn't let you explain any of the details behind why you think it's fraudulent.

The optimist in me though keeps thinking maybe there's some poor guy in China that just started on eBay and wonders why all of his high end diecasts are only selling for 30??? :giggle:

Haha, dont be fooled! There is no poor guy in China, poor guys don't do eBay!
I saw similar listings on BMW's, don't even bother "watching" them or bidding because my guy feeling tells me SCAM!!!

Yeah there's someone selling a super-cheap TSM P1 at the moment.  I looked at it for about a second, until I realised it had one stock photo, the guy has zero feedback, and only has one item for sale.  I ran away laughing.

I noticed this seller putting up a new TSM Bentley GT3 up every few days at too good to be true prices.  He's from Italy and $18 shipping to the US is ridiculously low for the size and weight of the TSM Bentley.  His first auction ended around $200, which it not unreasonable, but now in the low $100s.  I like this disclaimers in the ad about filing disputes and whatnot...lol.  He may sell some real ones at a loss initially to get people to think it's real and then not ship out the bunch of auctions people paid for...

http://www.ebay.com/...cvip=true&rt=nc

The price of that auction is at a loss based on actual model retailers I know.

I'm glad to hear you got yours. I'm still hesitant in buying when I know the prices are at or below cost and being sold as new especially overseas. I hope all the winning bidders get theirs and not end up being a few get screwed.

I've noticed with these sellers that if you click on their name then 'items for sale' there's nothing listed.
Not even the model shown when linked.
Makes me wonder if these are real e-bay listings, or are the unwary being re-directed to another (dodgy) site......

Ebay is weird like that sometimes, especially for things out of China etc, I think (from memory)  you have to look them up on ebay.com to see everything they're selling.

I had a message from someone on eBay earlier asking if I was in China as a seller there had the same item & description as me & gave the item number.

I checked it out & it's a complete rip from my listing but with only a few of the pictures. The seller has zero feedback.

I tried to report the listing on eBay but they were asking so many questions and it wasn't like when I used to report this sort of thing (there was a bit where you said that your pictures and description had been taken & you'd put in the other item number) So I decided to call them instead. Even though I had a pass code etc to confirm my ID they didn't ask for it or give me the chance to put it in on the phone. The operative (on a really crappy line) didn't really understand what I was saying, she eventually understood & I gave her both item numbers - here's where there's a twist  they are sending me a Vero form to prove who I am!! I flipped out at her asking how someone who has zero feedback, and and mentions the UK postal service can be considered legit compared to a seller of fifteen years with a few thousand feedback ?

The lady just repeated her script while I went more & more mad at her asking why I have to prove myself ? I finally stopped going mad when I offered to give her a picture of myself with the item, plus any other pictures they may want.
I told her that whoever buy the China sellers item won't be getting it as it's a scam and on them (theirs is an auction, but mine is a buy it now) but she was not interested.

I will read through the form, but I can't understand why it seems they're persecuting me.

I can understand why eBay might needs to put such measures in to prevent eBay sellers from "sabotaging" each other perhaps it was rampant in some other areas of eBay however I would be mighty mad if I have been given the same treatment as you did. You would have thought that by speaking to a real person the operator could think for herself for a moment and understand how ridiculous the requests would be but i think this is how the support call centre works these days. these workers are brainwashed into mindless drones that only reads off scripts and do nothing else. I bet some of the artificial intelligent bots out there are smarter than these meat drones.

Yes, sadly you are correct, I knew she was just reading out a script, with no real concern about me.

There seems to be a lot more of these zero feedback China sellers appearing, if eBay etc don't care right now, they soon will do when it ends up costing them.

Usually to report it's just a drop down menu when you click report listings, they typically disappear quickly if they are fraudulent.

And he has two for this description:  "Up for sale is my boxed #20 Gulf Le Mans Porsche from the Steve McQueen 1971 movie. This is in excellent unused condition with no damage or marks. It comes complete with the rare picture box & inserts which are all in excellent condition, never displayed just sat in box over the last five years. From a smoke free home."
