Excellent writeup, Jeff! I too concur that the Exoto is way overpriced for the amount of model you get... the level of detail is just a bit out dated. I added the Cobra Daytona with the Stain Aluminum finish to my collection a few months ago, and it just doesn't seem to fit with my other Exotos and CMCs... there's just something lacking. All a matter of timing, Matt.
10 years ago (or whenever it was first released) this was better than sliced bread.
This one of Exoto's first releases and it was well worth the initial price of I believe $99 only to jump to $129 and then to $169 and beyond.

It should still be priced at $99 today.

Should you collect 1:43?

In my opinion, no if you can afford 1:18 models. First of all, most people will think of them as toys, while 1:18 models can look as something classy if you have a few.

Nice comparison, it's the first time i read it.

Biblitesc, JSB, when judging the price, we should take in the account the fact that the Exoto is very old (launched in 1996/1997). I agree, the details lack for 2011, but it remains of high value because of the age and the authentic liveries. Some of them are too expensive indeed, pricing over 200 euros.

I don't have a definitive answer but I don't think they are the same.

I'll have to pick up one of the SCs, not bad at all for the price!  This looks better than the Greenlight.

Now if they'd just fix the Cobra roadster, specifically those awful wheels.

Times and techniques move on; you can not really think that a model produced in 1999 is going to be still on par with a model made in the last two years. I think it’s a testament to Exoto for them still to look so good compared with modern version of the same model. It’s very rare for one company to allow another to use it moulds, these are high priced assets, “the crown jewels” of the company if you like. Its has happened but usually when the mould is almost finished and ready to be melted down.
There are only so many ways a model of a car can be produce that’s why so many look so similar as to were the mould lines or were the model is split it usually only in the details that one can tell if one company has allowed another company to buy  or use its moulds.
A very good review with graet images congrautlaions

So why is it priced like one that just came out?  I think that was more the point.

Missed that, but it the same as with most things you pay the price that they can get away with selling them at. Got mine at the $99 price range, its about the only good thing for being in this hobby for so long!
