You've all simultaneously made me feel welcome and intimidated - the quality of the photos members post here is amazing! I am very much a neophyte, both in collecting diecast and especially in photography, so please bear with me (as I was resizing my sample pics, I saw all kinds of flaws that I intend to remedy when I next have four days to blow unpacking, posing and reposing).

I am first and foremost a racing fan and my little collection and my planned acquisitions reflect that (I just ordered the GMP Ferrari 330P4 - no, not the 1/8th version!). Most of these cars are from races I read about or, very occasionally, saw on film or TV - from a more romantic and sadly more dangerous era. All but two are 1/18th scale and many are unassembled and/or unpacked as I have no room to display them. Here we go!

UPDATE 1/31/16: Not much has changed in the seven years since I created this post. I didn't get back to New Jersey until Dec. 2012 and even then was not given the time to get a place that would allow me to display my slowly growing collection. They are still all stored, but I've expanded my selections a bit with some ebbs-and-flows based upon the vagaries of my profession:

Last night I did some major cleanup in my apartment and for the first time, broke down and tossed a bunch of shipping boxes and labeled and stored my collection in my den closet:

UPDATE 3/06/17: Thanks to Craig's welcome repair of the site, I can finally update my collection list and fix the broken links to pics.

And here is the complete list of my current collection (as of 4/22/17):

Two of my three outstanding orders came in over the last week.

First, the Exoto 1/18th Ford GT40 Mk. II of Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby that led a 1-2-3-5 Ford sweep of the 1966 Daytona 24-Hour (note that this version of the Mk. II doesn't have the iconic twin rear deck airscoops that first appeared at the next race, the Sebring 12-Hour):

Then today arrived my Exoto 1/18th IMSA Jaguar XJR-9D of Martin Brundle, Raul Boesel and John Nielsen that won the 1988 Daytona 24-Hour (I haven't installed the rear spoiler):

Now I'm waiting for my GMP Ferrari 330P4 which they say will be delivered this month...

Should you collect 1:43?

In my opinion, no if you can afford 1:18 models. First of all, most people will think of them as toys, while 1:18 models can look as something classy if you have a few.

Thank you all - nice to share them with friends. Unfortunately I won't be able to properly appreciate them until I move back East next spring and can assemble and display them permanently. Now all I can do is bring them out of the closet from time-to-time and look at them - jeez, that makes it sound so...dirty  :lol
