I guess the standard Hot Wheels was just released in red, blue, and black this month for an MSRP of $45. Doing a quick search on eBay shows that these have flooded the market, but where did all of the Elite models go? It looks like there's just one or two on eBay now...

I'm not particularly interested in getting one now, but am curious if production of those have now stopped.

Can anyone attest to the quality of the non elite Cali? The control area on the interior looks pretty basic and there's no carpet. But the exterior looks the same.

A lot of the Elite's are getting harder to find. When they said "Limited Edition" of 5,000 or 10,000 I didn't take it very seriously, but a lot of them are scarce by now. Luckily, I've all the ones I wanted that have been released so far, except the California.

I was wondering the same thing as well and actually kinda want to buy one right now. Not that it looks good, but it is still a Ferrari. I have a funny feeling that sellers may still have the Elite in stock, but want to sell the mass version first before relisting the Elite again.

Does the Basic model has a removable roof?

Uh-oh. I'm lukewarm about the California as a 1:1, but since I have several modern Ferraris, I thought I'd add a California Elite once I found one for a bit less than the MSRP as I have done with other Hot Wheels Elite models. Just last week, for example, I snagged a Mondial Super Elite and a 360 Elite on Ebay for about $120 with shipping included, and that deal was beyond my wildest dreams since the Super Elite MSRP is really out of whack with reality.

So I figured I'd scoop up a California (preferably in Azzurro California) eventually, but like you, I've noticed that the standard editions have flooded the market while the Elite editions have practically disappeared. So now I'm wondering what in the hell happened to the Elite Californias!

Right, like others, I've been waiting for more Elites to get on the market so I could possibly snag a used copy for below MSRP. But now the new market seems to have dried up.

Agree completely. The current California is not worthy of such a famous and iconic Ferrari nameplate. The 250 SWB and LWB models of the 1960's are so stunning and are amongst the most beautiful cars period. However being a Ferrari nut and the California representing some unusual styling cues I need to adopt one at some point. Was hoping that prices were going to become a little more realistic but with few available this model may have to take greater priority.

There has to be a glitch in Hot Wheels's manufacturing or distribution. I mean even the red 288 GTO which is one of the rarest/elusive HWEs was initially available for a longer time. :twocents:

Errr... Such iconic models like the 250 SWB / LWB are best left with CMC / Exoto and Kyosho to make.
