What's the donor, and is there a transkit involved?

Looks good thus far. Why not just get a LM?

Looks like a F40 GTE (Le Mans 1996) for me, which has a wider rear wing compare to the LM. The donor looks like a Kyosho F40.

Looking great so far!

Correct.
It's an F40 GTE (by Michelotto) which is the ultimate F40 variant.
I have asked for it to just be a track spec GTE so it will be red with a few sponsor decals but no livery.
There are differences to the LM such as the wider rear wing, rear diffuser, front spoiler, hood vents, etc.
As well as mechanical differences such as larger intercoolers, sequential gearbox, etc.
I'm trying to be as accurate as possible to the GTE specs and passing this onto the modeller.

Yes the base is the Kyosho F40 Lightweight. The LW has some features such as the stripped door panels to make this conversion easier.
I'm also using parts of the APM F40 LM Transkit for the build such as the photoetching and some exterior features that are the same on the LM and GTE models.

I was origionally planning to do the simple LM conversion, but then decided to go for the GTE as it's more of a unique model. It's somewhat of a shame as the LM transkits from APM are probably discontinued now.

Lookin' good Mark. Great choice. The GTE is indeed a different animal from the LM. Thanks for the info. Can't wait to see this. What color?

Are those 288 GTO Evoluzione side mirrors?

I love how it's parked with a bunch of Enzos. With those stats, it could eat them for lunch.

Looking great Mark - is it true that you got photos from an owner of an actual car? Can't wait to see the finished product.

Cheers Simon.
Yes .. a Ferrari enthusiast who used to own a GTE sent me an absolute haul of his personal photos of his car .. from every angle imaginable. I have got him intrigued about this project so he was only too happy to send me whatever he could to assist. In the end it should turn out a lot like his former car, with only a few differences.

thanks Sermaz, yeah I'm really happy with the paint so far.
The price is significant, about the same as a Versus model (including the Kyosho F40, the APM LM transkit, and the cost to ship these to the modeller in Germany from Australia). So it's not cheap, but it's all custom work. Interior is going to be re-done, as well as the engine bay and wheels, etc. I'm a huge fan of the F40 so its worth it to me.

Cheers.
Its really good to see the paint re-done on this F40. Being a Kyosho, it originally did have some paint issues (bubbles), but now no more :)

Thanks .. I feel I'm taking all the praise for the builder's work. I have passed on all the comments to him but I'm sure he's heard it before, building models for 20 or so years.
I can't wait to see the finished piece.

So Mark, would you normally have to ship the base vehicle to the moddler? I have been looking at some of his other work and there are definately some there that interest me.
