you better get proper stand that model when you display it... the rear landing gear already bent

Well spotted bruinne....though that's an illusion that's my fault - I didn't have it properly clicked into place... :10:

The undercarriage on the BBI planes are sturdy enough, as far as i know it's the JSI F-14 Tomcats that have the problems with fracturing legs....

Ah-HA!!  I knew I remembered someone on DX who got the F-18 just like the one I bought myself for Christmas!!! Didn't remember it was you Eddy!

So have you found a stand for your jet other then the box? If not I just got mine made from a guy on Ebay (item # 200696347342):

http://www.ebay.ca/i...=item2eba6f3ace

I bought one for my F-16 last summer now I got the F-18 ... they're sharp looking!

Also, have you found any meanings of the writtings on the plane? I spent a few hours searching the web cause I'm very curious but so far I didn't find much :

F/A 18C Hornet Golden Dragons :

F: Fighter
A: Attack
C:  ... upgraded one-seater model with new weaponery, avionics, new ejection seat and small strakes on the leading edge extensions to reduce buffet on tailfins

VFA-190 :

VFA : Stike Fighter Squadron (190th)

NF tailcode :

unit USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) - Carrier air wing  ... stationned in Yokosuka, Kanagawa, Japan in 1998 until end of 1999

N: Pacific fleet
F : ???
CO : ???

361: ???
S : ??? (in front of cockpit)

D446 / 1991 / D606 : ??? (on drop tanks)

ADAN ORTEGA ISLAND PRIDE : ???

Did you made some researches?

Yep it was me!! :wavetowel2:
Indeed congrats on YOUR big bird Jeff.....and thanks for then nod re: the stand... :occasion14:
I've been thinking about one, but they are + shipping to UK so that makes them too pricey - in fact I was thinking of fabricating my own from some acrylic that I have knocking around...... somewhere.......   However for the last few months it has been residing on top of the wardrobe in the spare bedroom next to my F104.....

Attached File  2PLANES (Medium).JPG   23.31K   0 downloads

.....and as yet I have not had any comment at all from 'the boss'..... :hope:

I did google 'Lt Fireball Jackson' when I first got the model - together with other insignia items on the plane etc.., but didn't get anything ......other than of course USS Kittyhawk connections...so any further info would be much appreciated....

I'll let you know if I come across more info.....meanwhile enjoy your new toy!   :wavetowel2:

I wonder where I'll put the F-14 when I decide to get one! And the F-15 when it will be out ...

I'm still praying for a 1/18 version of the A-10 Thunderbolt (Warthog) !!!   :hope: :hope: :hope:

Turns out I found that VFA-190 is wrong and don't exist ... the Golden Dragons squadron is suppose to be VFA-192. It was a typo mistake apparently.

Maybe AutoArt was involve in the making then, I don't know!

Turns out that ADAN is a Navy term  .... It's a rate and grade combination-AD for aviation machinist mate (rate), AN for Airman (pay grade E-3).

Still on the research!

S : ??? (in front of cockpit)

The "S" stands for Safety :

The Dragons are well known for their safety record. The squadron was recognized for the last two years as the Chief of Naval Operations Safety “S” recipient West Coast F/A-18 Hornet squadrons. The Golden Dragons have gone 23 years without a single Class “A” mishap, meaning the squadron has not had a fatal injury or suffered any major equipment damage.

So the "S" is some kind of commemoration, apparently, the VFA-192 sets bar for aviation safety!

So that's it, I'm done with the researches!!! I've had enough!!!  I've gather everything I could about the Golden Dragons ...  those are the infos I found:

The model is a McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) 1998 model (from lot 17) and it’s the last version and squadron of F-18C that moved to USS KITTY HAWK In Hawaii that same year.

Production of the F/A-18C Hornet for the US Navy ended in 1999 and 365 units were made of the "C" version.

Super Hornets are still in production.

1998  F/A-18C Hornet "Golden Dragons" manufactured by McDonnell Douglas

F: Fighter
A: Attack
C:  one-seater upgraded with new weaponery and avionics, new ejection seat and small strakes on the leading edge extensions to reduce buffet on tailfins

VFA-190

VFA : Stike Fighter Squadron  ...

Turns out that VFA-190 is wrong and don't exist ... the Golden Dragons squadron is suppose to be VFA-192. It was a typo mistake. AUTOart was probably involve in the info gathering, I don't know!

Tailcode

N : Pacific fleet
F : West coast
CO : ???

361 : plane unit number ... stationned in Yokosuka, Kanagawa, Japan until 1998 then moved to USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) - Carrier air wing

S : (in front of cockpit) ... the "S" stands for Safety :

The Dragons are well known for their safety record. The squadron was recognized for the last two years as the Chief of Naval Operations Safety “S” recipient West Coast F/A-18 Hornet squadrons. ADAN ORTEGA ISLAND PRIDE

Turns out that ADAN is a Navy term  .... It's a rate and grade combination-AD for aviation machinist mate (rate), AN for Airman (pay grade E-3). As for ortega island pride, I didn't find squat!

D446 / 1991 / D606 : (on drop tanks) ???

You dun good Moos!   :omg: :10:    :occasion14:  ................So it's just that 'CO' and the bit on the drop tanks..... :icon_scratch:

the only reference to CO in tailcodes seems to relate to F-16s only (140th FW, Buckley AFB, Colo. (ANG))......but I wonder if it's just another 'typo'...like 190 rather than 192........do you think it could be a way of avoiding royalties???? :icon_scratch:
