Ok, I'm not a Ferrari fan, but please... that looks like crap... It looks like they mated an Enzo with a 458 and added a bit of Huayra to it...
To say the truth, I don't like any of the 3 new hypercars P1, Veneno and "The". I love Lamborghinis and I don't really like the Veneno, but I understand that it was just a crazy thing they built and I don't even count it as a real model, you can't go to a dealer and ask for one. The P1 is just following the McLaren tendency for "engineered looks", no big deal there, but Ferrari is doing that too and I think that goes against what a Ferrari should be. I like the 458 because it has a very nice design, if they stop giving a s@#t about the design, then they can stop using the Ferrari name because it will just degrade a name that is associated with a fantastic history and awesome cars.
And what's up with the "The" name? Bare with me on this one... lets admit that both the Ferrari and McLaren will be tested in the Top Gear track... If the P1 beats the Ferrari, then it will mean eternal defeat for Ferrari, because the "The" "is the maximum expression of what defines our company – excellence.”. If McLaren can defeat the best of Ferrari, then Ferrari can just pack it up and go home with their heads down. Really... what were they thinking when they came up with that name?
(I don't mean to offend anyone, in case it happens.)
I think we both are minorities in this, but I completely agree with you. The LaFerrari (stupid name), P1 (not surprise here), Veneno (still sounds better than the Ferrari), and 918 (at least it makes sense) are all hideous compared to what they've replacing. Like you said, these cars are overengineered to the point where the design has been compromised so much. With the Ferrari, I think the Enzo still has a cleaner design in a leaner package. Like you said, I don't think the LaFerrari is the ultimate expression of of Ferrari. IMHO, cars like the F40 and even the 458 Italia are closer to Ferrari's ultimate expression. With the Lambo, I'm sure what if it is even a replacement for anything in the car. The closest I can think of is the Reventon because that was design study based on an existing car. But honestly, it is just an up yours to Ferrari. The P1 isn't pretty to look at, but still reminds me more of the original F1 than the LaFerrari reminding me of the Enzo. The 918 is easily my favorite of the group of newage hyper cars. Not because it is a Porsche, but because the concept car was darn good looking. It looks like the final car will be almost identical to it too so I'd say you can't really go wrong with the Porsche.
Remember, a decade ago, we had the Carrera GT, Enzo, SLR, and Ford GT all competing each other. IMHO, they were cleaner in design. At least, they don't look like they were overengineered and design was compromised. Just my

I watched the video and photos for some times now and I think it is an impressive and stunning car.
Especially the aerodynamics, technical and architecture video is quite interesting.
But how can you get in and out, . . . . elegantly, . . . . the height is 1116 mm !?!?
I think, just with previous cars, that the beauty will grow on you.
That could be true. I didn't like the 458 Italia when it first came out, but did really grew on me. Still would rather buy the MP4-12C over it though
