Hello!

I've been collecting diecast for the past 10 years or so, mainly focused on 1:64 Hot Wheels, but recently I've felt the urge to grow to 1:18. I have about 35 cars in that scale at the moment, and I'm looking to stick around that number (as I don't have a load of space for them) but improve the overall quality. I prefer and try to focus on 90s and early 00s racecars and 70s+ road cars, but appreciate everything.

Audi RS5 Sportback - White (GT Spirit)

Even thought I have yet to own a single VW / Audi product, I am always a fan of Audi's design. Lately the RS5 Sportback really caught my eyes as I think it's the best looking mid-size luxury 4-door coupe out there.

One of the reason I picked up this 1:18 RS5 Sportback is the configuration chosen by GT Spirit is how I would exactly build / order my 1:1 if I ever get the means to own one: White, 20" wheels, and black-optic-carbon package.

This is a good effort by GT Spirit. Comparable quality to the RS5 Coupe also made by GTS.

Hello everyone. I am a stubbornly reluctant seller. However, due to recent changes in my life (e.g. buying a new vehicle with the associated responsibilities and costs, realization that my 700-square-foot apartment is feeling smaller everyday), I have decided to part with a very prized model of mine. Winning this Quattro on eBay auction was one of the most triumphant moments in my collecting endeavor. Alas, I think I speak on behalf of most when I dare say the greatest thrill in our hobby is when you found that one piece and commit to purchasing it. After all these, we are just waiting for the shipment to arrive and let the model be static for eternity.

I have experienced it and I think the Quattro now deserves a better Collector who will appreciate it more. I had my moments with it of course! But due to what has been narrated above, I want my hobby to be more enjoyable with less volume.

External packaging is in decent shape considering the age. It has the usual yellowish hue.

Please take note too that I had removed the 4 "jacks" holding the model in place at the bottom shell. I have some extra pieces at home and will reassemble everything prior to dispatch and take some photos along the way.

Also also the model has always been kept at my work place which is air-conditioned.

Still a looker after all these years. The only Audi I would ever want in my garage.

Fastback 2-door bodystyle is still one of the best in the industry. IMO.

Okay, here comes the nasty bits that will diminish the selling points...

Evidence of paint rash or "pimples" on the hood.

There are flaws along the sides too. You get the idea.

All is forgotten when you check out the interior. Showroom fresh.

Engine bay is still very clean and shows good detailing. Unfortunately, the hinges will not hold up.

A full-size spare at the trunk. Similar to the front, the hinges here will not hold up.

I have so many pellets and bubble wraps from my own purchases. These will be used for protection.

The Quattro has been listed on local classifieds for months but with no enquries whatsoever! I reckon this will have more appreciation overseas.

Tecnomodel Aston Martin AMR-1

The latest addition to my collection of Group C cars is a Tecnomodel Aston Martin AMR-1

I always loved this car in era, there was something underdog about Aston against Mercedes, Jaguar, Porsche and the rest and the AMR-1 definitely showed promise, but sadly it was never developed as the programme was axed as Aston (like Jaguar) came under Ford control and it didn't make much sense to have two Ford brands competing against each other.

I chose the number 19 LM car because it featured both Ray Mallock and David Leslie in the driver lineup, both sadly lost too soon.

I was tempted to get the Brands car which has a different wing and finished an impressive 4th overall on its first (as I recall) visit to a UK round of the WSC, but the lineup didn't feature Mallock.

The model is a sealed resin and it's quite nice, even if I still balk at paying �200 for a bit of plastic...

If I'm honest, I don't think it's up there with Spark's diecasts, at �50 or more extra, but it's (supposedly) 1 of 100 and I don't expect there'll be a glut of AMR-1s to choose from, so thanks Tecnomodel for making it!

Apologies for the Q&D phone photos, I may post some better ones in due course, but I think you get an idea of the quality.

A simple showcase for a relative newcomer. Diecast Society did a review in August which you can read here: https://diecastsocie...rria-jb74-2018/

The one reviewed above is in Kinetic Yellow which I expect to be the most popular color. I ordered mine in Bluish Black Pearl to go with my Gen-3 Jimny in the same color.

I like the artwork with the diagrams of the Jimny across multiple sides of the packaging.

Each one is limited to 999 pieces although there is no serialization to know your build number. Another cool feature is you can have yours in either LHD or RHD.

Internal packaging comprises of a 2-piece Styrofoam shell. Also, the dimensions are very compact thanks in no small part to the Jimny's petite proportions.

General proportions and stance are good and all but there is one minute detail that upset me a little. The headlights are a little smaller than how they should be. Notice how comically large the actual headlights are while on the 1:18 model, there is still considerable space above and below the headlights that is part of the fascia and grille assembly.

At the back, the rear lights appear a little too flat and the housings lack depth. Apart from that, all is good.

We have seen protective sponges for the exterior of our models within the Styrofoam shell but have you seen these on the interior? This is a pleasant touch from BM Creations.

The Jimny is considered a rare breed. It is one of only a handful of off-roaders that are still produced in 3-door bodystyles. The others being the Toyota Land Cruiser, Jeep Wrangler and the newly revealed Land Rover Defender.

Apart from the headlight size, I think the front fascia has been executed well. Everything that should be perforated is perforated.

The wipers are not the typical poorly thin pieces you see on so many models that look like an afterthought. The mold lines of the faux vent fore the A-pillar could have been more detailed though.

The radiator clearly visible from the front which is commendable.

The Jimny's large side mirrors are great at reducing blind spots during lane change. Disappointingly, these do not fold on the model.

Jimny engine bay is very detailed. Every major ancillary and component appear to be individual pieces molded individually. The plumbing for my radiator is a little flimsy though.

If there is ratio for detail index over engine power, this Jimny will trounce any competitor. Probably due to its puny 105 PS rating...

I have no idea why BM Creations made the front fascia removable but I am glad they did. It is held in place by a pair of magnets so allay any concern over long-term fitment issues.

Full instrumentation is available. The flooring is fully carpeted or flocked. Seats do not appear convincing though. There is chrome detailing on the steering but it does not show due to poor lighting and photography on my end.

Another view of this well sorted cabin. If you look closely, there is a glorious error present above. Can you spot it?

We have heard countless times of "driver engagement" especially when it comes to sporty vehicles. BM Creations take this up a notch with "passenger engagement". The sample by Diecast Society is LHD and does not show this pedal placement farce. I believe this may only be an flaw for RHD samples. Strangely I am more amused than upset by this oversight. Certainly will not return my model as steering placement is more crucial than pedal placement for me.

Door panel on my driver side has some adhesive residue which is a little irksome.

There are strong hints of the G Wagen from this angle.

One area that this model excels is on the rear emblem. They are one of the best I have seen. The cutting is precise and application is perfect with no hint of adhesive residue. Also they look like proper emblems and not decals.

The rear seats fold flat just like the real things. All seat belts are fabric-made too.

The Jimny's party piece is the undercarriage and working suspension components. Hands down, one of the best. Very similar in execution to Almost Real's Range Rover Classic.

Superb detailing on the front solid axle.

The rear solid axle plus the very small 40-liter fuel tank.

Even the transfer case has some praiseworthy level of details.

The suspension has some serious travel which is awesome. Also, you can simply flick the body with your pinky and see the whole vehicle wobble or jiggle like Jell-O. Very hilarious and fun.

Due to its ride height and fantastic undercarriage craftsmanship, you will always get a hint or sneak of the underbody.

(+) A very refreshing offering from a new diecast player in this day and age of the collecting hobby.
(+) Amazing level of detailing all around, especially the undercarriage.
(+) Reasonably priced, I paid 17% less for this than the Almost Real Range Rover.

(-) Obviously, the pedal placement but not a deal breaker for me. Would still buy in this RHD spec even if I had known prior.
(-) Front headlights are smaller than actual design. Rear lights lack depth.
(-) The usual adhesive residue here and there but very minimal.

I hope this will shed some light for your who want a Jimny but is contemplating between this and AUTOart's future release. Frankly, I doubt AUTOart's will come with the working suspension bits but at least you will have the correct alignment of the steering and pedals. However, I believe AUTOart will have better execution of the lights plus more color options. This Jimny looks good in blue too so it is a wonder why BM Creations are not making that...

Whichever way you look at it, the clear winner here is us collectors. We should be grateful that TWO companies are making scale models of what is a niche vehicle.

I recommend the more outlandish color of Kinetic Yellow or the tasty Chiffon Ivory. Bluish Black Pearl was a no brainer for me though.

The strictly 3-door SUV club. Pajero Evolution was somewhere...

These show it's hip to be square.

Remixing a CLDC garage diorama

I bought this garage 3 years ago or so, but never really used it too much, simply because its very hard to get good pictures in it. That is partly because it has awful lighting from those weak leds in the roof (I solved that later by installing some stronger light) but mostly because its so shiny and cartoony. I tried to solve that with some matte clear and "dirt" a while ago, but still meh. So BRN`s more gloomy garages made me give it this ago again, making it look more like garages I am used to seeing in malls, etc.

Here is the floor of my dirty version, and I covered this completely with AK asphalt.

What I love (and hate) about this product is that it takes a long time to cure. Here freshly applies.

But once dry its super matte.

A lot of masking needed for the markings, like on my outdoors thingy I just make sure the seal is good and then paint sloppily with a brush and thick acrylic white paint. Citadel is the best brand for this I think, simply because its so thick and thus nothing seeps under the tape.

For the walls I use AK concrete, but first I cut and glued identical styrene plates to the wall sections, making sure they have some gaps. The idea here is for it to look like plates of concrete. I didnt know how this would go, if the concrete would just fill the gaps, but either way a fail would just mean ... that the wall was covered anyway.

Turned out pretty cool I think.

All sections back in.

Everything I will reuse from the original garage mounted. I plan to not have a roof at all, but rather build all the complexity in the roof (which obscures a lot) and then just use the light from my photobox for pictures.

I will have a look at some real ones and add a lot of details to bring it alive, but I like it better now already.

At least we have Schuco making nice open models. The details of the engine is worth the price of admission. The interior is fine, but better than a lot out there. To me the model does sit high and I would like to lower it a bit. Lately I have been wearing a shirt with a similar Porsche and lowered, on Fuchs and without the Porsche stripe. I wouldn't mind copying that look with this model. We'll have to see, I guess.

I was casually browsing eBay last night. I was looking at random Autoart models that came up on the search, when a listing for a Gallardo Supertrofeo Stradale caught my eye.

It wasn't the model itself, but the amount of bids versus the current bid value: 70 @ €3.50.

And the auction ends in 9 days.

I thought I had to check what was going on. Turns out one of the punters placed over 60 bids on top of his original. Only he did that in €0.01 increments, from €2.50 up to €3.16, in space of 15 minutes.

I checked again if his weren't automatic bids or some sort of eBay bug, and no, they were €0.01 incremental bids placed one after the other.

Could somebody tell me what's that? Sniping tool test gone wrong, maybe?

Or maybe he believes that by typing and clicking his fingers to the bone at penny-pinch pace, he can outrun other punters and win that model for a 1 figure sum?

Autoart 1/18 Huracan Performante - Colour comparison

Im looking at adding an Autoart 1/18 Huracan Performante to my collection. Most of my lambos are giallo/ Yellow and i was wondering if anyone had this performante in the Giallo Inti (yellow) colour and could take some photos of it for me against other giallo lambos such as the murcielago or aventador. I believe those ones are Giallo Orion.

Im tossing up between the yellow or matt orange performante as i like the rims on the orange car but love yellow lambos in general. The generic google photos of this car dont really show it properly and i dont have a local stockist which i can visit to see it in person unfortunately.

Any help would be appreciated.

"Power to The People" Via Mercedes-Benz... 1/18th Scale

What A Fun Logistical Nightmare..LOL

This thing is a BEAST to take on locations, un-pack, assemble over and over and set up for shoots. However, I was lucky enough to have someone assisting me. That said, it was challenging as well as so much fun setting up this rig. The BIGGEST challenge was trying to keep my foam-core based diorama road from getting mashed to mushiness under the weight of this semi-truck/trailer loaded up with fully diecast-metal Chinese Dealer Edition VAG VW cars. Ultimately, this was one of the most difficult and satisfying shoots that I have ever made. What made it even more difficult was that it was done a month and a half ago, when it was hot as Haiti's here in Europe. However, when I look at these photos, I feel like it was worth all of the time & effort put into going into transporting these models to a couple of locations.

So, I'm calling this post "Power to The People" because Volkswagen is the unofficial car of the people in Germany. It's so fitting that a Mercedes is the one delivering these VAG products to my fictional dealership/customers.

NZG really created something so interesting and purposeful with their Lohr Auto-Carrier. I'm so fortunate to have this masterpiece in my collection.

I hope that you all have as much fun looking at these shots as I have had making these photos.

One of favourite models as a boy was the Ford Cortina Mark III with Graham Hill figure by Corgi. I remember going into the local toy shop and my Dad buying it for me. He ended up buying another to keep for himself and preserve as a scale mode. Naturally I found it and played with it and lost the Graham Hill figure and the models were eventually lost over the years in the way so many toys of childhood are leaving us with just our memories I haven't thought about that model in years, until I bought a newly released Corgi Vanguards Ford Cortina 2000E below. Does anyone else remember the original Corgi? This new release by Corgi Vanguards is an excellent model for the money, particularly in this striking Purple Velvet.

So let's get the bad stuff out of the way first. I've been debating whether I should get this Norev version of the BMW G20 in the 330i M-sport guise. But my biggest beef with Norev is how they inaccurately produced the front fascia compared to the 1:1 M-sport bumper. See below:

Taking inspiration from Raidou's work (although no where near the same details as his), I made template on how the black part above the fog lights should extend and transferred it to vinyl decals. Raidou did it MUCH better using plastic sheets to reshape the insert but for the time being I'll settle with the vinyl decals.

On this subject, I asked Norev how come this is overlooked and they said they developed this model from the CAD data obtained from BMW. So sounded to me like BMW may have give Norev the CAD data before the final details were all finalized.

But let's now move on to the rest of the car.

First I am a little disappointed that Norev chose to do this instead of the M340i. But at least it's the M-sport version with the optional wheels and the Portimao Blue color suits this car really well. If there is another accuracy is the headlights where in the 1:1 it has a black outline. So I decided outline the lenses with black paint and also shadowlined the grilles and mirror caps (since the window trims are already black). It may not be to everyone's taste but I like these grilles blacked out. Kind of reducing the effect of the large sizes of these kidney grilles.

Interior detail is pretty good and the contrasting color stitching and knurled aluminum trims are well replicated here. Engine detail is just so-so but not fully Norev's fault. I wish the trunk lid opens instead of sealed, but this seems to be the trend lately with their BMW DE's (like the G15 M850i).

All that being said, I'm glad that I added this G20 to my 1:18 collection despite its shortcomings and compromises. Can't wait to see who else is going to release the G20 in 1:18!

The G20 will take some time for me to get used to, but it's growing fast on me. Not sure why the G20 reminded me of the E46 (maybe it's the headlight shapes?).

Audi e-Tron (Norev Dealer Edition)

Just adding this Norev's Audi e-Tron (dealer edition) to my collection. This is my first full-EV in 1:18

I would say it's very well-built for the price I paid. The usual Norev goodness applies here: Great paint job, good proportion, and acceptable details. Some downsides are overly-shinny interior plastics and inaccurate headlight bezels and lower accent piece (that should be silver instead of black). Too bad the charging port door isn't open-able and I wish they would include a 1:18 charger that can be used in diorama set.

The local Audi dealers here charges almost $200 (not sure about other dealers) but I got this on eBay for significantly less as I don't think this worth $200.

Hi everyone. I've been lurking on the forums and reading for a while now. I made an account a few weeks back but forgot my password, so thank you to BaseGTR and the admin team for helping me re-set my password so I can use the site.

My collection is predominately Nissan Skyline related as I absolutely love them and have been fortunate enough to own a few examples over the years. Currently own just an R33 GTR which has gone away for a restoration, it will be stripped down to a bare shell and built back up again.

1/18 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter (VS30) DE..by Norev

One of my favorite vehicles here in Europe is a Sprinter. In fact, I don't think that i'm alone here. You see, usually Sprinters are used by couriers to bring us collectors our models. Even this very 1/18 Norev Sprinter model itself was delivered in a similar style van.

In recent times, Norev and Daimler-Benz have forged a very successful alliance with their 1/18th Dealer Edition collaborations. A year earlier, Many of us collectors were shocked to see that the then new V-Klasse was being released in huge 1/18th scale at a really good price by Norev for Mercedes-Benz's after sales customer boutique.

So, when Mercedes-Benz released their newest Sprinter via Norev again, a few of us were startled, but not shocked. It too is an impressive model, but also is semi-opening with a sealed hood and no motor. However the rear doors, and right side sliding door all open. Now, the controversial thing with this model is, that front bumper is body color. Even though it's a option for painted front bumpers on the passenger models, it's rare to find this on the cargo variants. However, Mercedes-Benz did approve this model.

One of the first things that you realize about the Sprinter is, the scale of it. It's HUGE! I pulled out my blue V-Klasse and the Sprinter and took a side by side shot of the two of them together. The Sprinter towers over the V-Klasse and it really puts into perspective, that this is really more of a heavy duty style vehicle compared to the passenger focused V-Klasse. When you turn the Sprinter model over, you will notice a more sturdy frame based chassis and that sturdiness is also replicated in scale and weight. this is no light weight model. Overall, it feels very substantial in ones hands. Norev really have done a really impressive job in getting a materials/quality to price ratio. I really like the storage area, it's looks amazing for staging diorama type photos. The interior is just as basic as the 1/1 Cargo version. If you want something different in 1/18th scale diecast, please give this a try, it might open you up venturing out of the norm in 1/18th scale models.

It's truly a neat model, many of my friends have already created graphics for theirs and hopefully, we can look forward to our own brown UPS versions of Yellow DHL for the easiest, a FedEx variation.

1/18 Cadillac Escala Concept Car Vs. Cadillac Sixteen Concept Car

After receiving my 1/18th scale Shanghai-GM China Dealer Edition Cadillac Escala Concept model a few months ago, I was prompted to go through my stash of models and find my Cadillac Sixteen Concept car (done by Ricko) for a side by side.

These two concept cars were created to show a new direction for the brand's next chapter in design/styling. Both of these concept cars are more than a decade apart, but have some striking similarities in both being luxury halo concepts for Cadillac's Division of GM. First, in keeping with a formal American luxury theme for good conservative traditional reasons, Cadillac painted both luxury sedan concepts in a similar middle to dark shade of grey (although the Sixteen is a cool and the Escala is a warm shade). Ironically both concepts share a similar shade for their interiors as well. Both are 4 door hardtops (No B-Pillars). Both have massive wheels (24 inchers for the Sixteen & 22s for the Escala) and they both very American stretched proportions. The Sixteen wears a more formal look, whereas the Escala has a "fourdoor coupe/fastback" theme, similar to Audi's current A7 (but also now present on the new Cadillac CT5). Keeping with Cadillac tradition, both feature many "glitzy" or "blinged out" chrome plated parts as well as both donning prominent & dominant grilles up front to signal that these are indeed American luxury cars. Overall, both look successful in conveying a flagship luxury experience on 4 wheels.

With the Sixteen, it features dramatic over-the-top super long exaggerated proportions harking back to 1930s era Cadillac V-16s. Dominating the front end is a split hood hiding a 32 valve V-16 1,014 hp 13.6 liter motor underneath and the occupant section dons an ultra low roof to body side proportion. This car was hopefully optimistic for the early 2000s luxury car vision with ostentatious features and details, plus the "to hell with it" fuel economy from it's massive V-16 motor (Which is replicated on this model). It's overtly luxurious and glamorous even, with massive 24 inch rollers. The Sixteen has a dark tinted full panoramic roof, to let the sun beam in on the precious few that would have been able to purchase a Sixteen, if it had ever been produced. I really like what was then both a mix of current 2003 yet also retro in it's styling. To me personally, the Sixteen's theme also harks back to the 80s Eldorado two door coupe in theme a bit, especially the back of the roof and overall rear theme. It is clearly a Cadillac in style, proportion and extroverted presence. This Ricko brand model was so good for it's time, that GM officially sold it later as a GM-Shanghai Chinese Dealer Edition promotional in China for roughly 3 times what Ricko had originally charged for it (luckily that I got the "cheapo" Ricko branded version back when it was new).

More than a decade later the Escala Concept car debuted and it too featured striking styling as well, but with Cadillac's new direction "four door coupe/fastback" theme and the new direction of horizontal/vertical lighting mix upfront & at the rear. You can now see this lighting theme present on the current selection of Cadillac's production vehicles. The Escala has a full panoramic glass roof, which makes it easy to peer down into the exquisitely detailed interior replicated on this model. Also, this fastback features a working rear lift style fastback (Like the 1/1), whereas the Sixteen is a traditional sedan. The Escala is special with it's custom crafted luggage which can be accessed via the rear hatch and aided in lift over, the rear floor/deck raises to assist you in retrieving your luggage as the hatch is lifted. That working feature and 3 piece luggage set are all replicated on this model. Contrasting the Sixteen's massive V-16 motor, the Escala Concept has a smaller 4.2 liter twin turbo V8 (Sign of the times, turbocharge it), but unfortunately it's not replicated in this model. Sadly the hood is sealed and the chassis is featureless like most concepts, but in reality this car does move under it's own power. I am not sure why GM didn't feature any drivetrain details on this halo concept, like they had done on the Sixteen Concept? Now, one neat feature that is often found on most well detailed Chinese Dealer Edition models like this is, that the front seats can slide backwards & forwards (like the 1/1). The details on this model are done to a really high standard and the model comes mounted on a presentation style base, in need of a clear cover to seal it off (If displayed on said base). I highly recommend this Escala model, just because of it's truly "eye candy" factor on display in anyone's collection. With more SUVs cropping up, this sedan concept might be final farewell for domestic automobile concepts of a soon to be bygone era of American luxury cars. Hopefully, the words "Big Three and Sedans/Cars" aren't a combination that will be permanently killed off domestically back in the US.

So, enough with the write up, here's my shots for these two concepts from Cadillac.

Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa - my first diorama

Well this has been fun.
It started with a CMC in bits bought from Guiddy. I then bought a £24, 37cm wide display box from Ebay and a few other bits and bobs. Quite pleased with the table - some bits of pine and some styene H beams for legs. My favourite bit is my vice which is styrene. Plenty more details to add including all the Ferrari bits and bobs, tools and extras. I could also swap the Ferrari for a Lotus 49 - another model I have in bits! What it really needs now is the lid putting on, and some lights to give the realistic artificial light of a garage, with maybe sunlight coming through the windows. I also need to thicken the walls around the windows so it looks like the proper wall thickness when you look out of the windows. Any other ideas?

1:18 Road Kings Scania LBT 141 ASG Quick-ish Review

I got my eye on this truck for a long time. Finally there was a decent discount and I jumped on the opportunity.

I have to say I was pleased with the model when I opened it for the first time. The pics of the truck on the online stores make it look a bit modest. But actually the overall look, feel and finish of the model is very, very nice.

Here it is:

Shape, stance, size, paint is all good.

All of the lights are fully represented with small bulbs inside.

Among the negatives: a paint run on one of the saddle bags, the stickers to hold the doors closed during transit had way too strong glue and most of it was left on the model.

Love the rims and wheels, too.

It also attracted a curious visitor:

The interior is basic, but it is as such on the real truck, too.

Nice details. A drawback is that the steering wheel isn't connected to the front wheels...

While there's no engine, the radiator grille is actually detailed. I thought it's simply smooth black paint, but some sunlight showed that the grille is actually detailed. Nice.

I'd love if the saddle-bags were opening, but alas, they aren't. But for a 1:18 diecast truck with 10 wheels and opening interior, so much details and all for 126 euro (with the discount), you can't fault it too much.

Oh, and the suspension is working and the underside is well detailed, too.

Overall, a very decent effort. Sadly, these bad boys are way too big to collect them all. You need a lot of space just to accommodate one on a shelf, but that's the price of proper trucks in 1:18

CF-18 hornet repaint

1/18 scale 1977 Ford Granada Mark 1 by BoS

When I was a kid, my neigbour from across the road, Malcolm who was a very good mechanic owned a very smart 1975 Ford Granada Mark 1 3.0 Ghia. Dark blue with a black vinyl roof it was with an "M plate" registration. I remember looking out of our living room window, admiring how handsome his car was, the best car in the street. Recently, I learned that his wife Jean died earlier this year and that he lives on is own, with carers visiting every day. He didn't answer the door when I knocked.

The model I own isn't quite his, but it nevertheless captures the spirit of the original Ford Granada Mark 1. This model by BoS is the later 1977 2.3LS German spec, which I nevertheless detailed up with a UK number plate of the same colour and spot lights.

If you have any pictures of models of cars from your street, I'd like to read your story and look at your models.

Holden HQ Monaro GTS 350 by Autoart Biante

People seem to talk trash about AUTOart, but when you look at a model like this, how could you not love this?

The Holden HQ is one of the better looking classic Holdens. While I love a nice Ute, the Monaro is certainly the more iconic and fan favorite of the body styles. This time around I picked yellow as I really do not own too many yellow models. It suits the car perfectly and really lets pops. As for the details, there are plenty. All doors open along with the hood and trunk. The mechanisms are well done. The engine has everything you'd expect and is really one of the best muscle car engine bays you'll find. All around this is just an amazing model. While the price is high, there is plenty of details to make this a worthy purchase.

New 1/64 finds. (come on little collectors)

I know I can not be the only one here that collects 1/64 in addition to other sizes. There are a lot of advantages to collecting the little guys of diecast other than price. One of the biggest is the variety of types and colors offered in these guys. A perfect example is my second favorite car, the AMC Javelin. I have never seen a 1/18 of this car, but lots in 1/64. Then of course there is the issue of space. I could not own as many 1/18 models as I do in 1/64. Just no place to put them on display.

So come on guys, there is strength in numbers. So us pics of those new finds so we can make the big boys jealous!

I found this today at Hobby Lobby. Priced at $14.99 before I used my magic Hobby Lobby 40% off coupon, (which I print from their website and always carry one in my wallet) I got these sweet drag mustangs for $8.99. Great history of the drag strip!

1970 Ford Escort Mk I RS1600

Here is something that started it all.

The Ford Escort Mk I was released in 1968 and the RS1600 that debuted in 1970 would go on to set the template for the iconic Fast Fords and cement itself as an all-time rally great. In its 1:18 diecast form, it introduced me to Minichamps and laid the foundation for my then-fledgling model collection.

I first saw this iteration of the RS1600 when Fast & Furious 6 hit the big screens in 2013. The Escort only had minimal screen time being driven by Brian O’Conner, played by the late-Paul Walker, but it had such an everlasting impact on me. The Escort itself was already a tidy-looking car in my books. Add in some ridiculous amount of Cibie rally lights, splashes of white graphics and the eye-catching gold Compomotive Minilites, it was a movie car I instantly register.

The Escort RS1600 had a brief but significant appearance on Fast & Furious 6.

That was long before I started collecting 1:18 models. I was hooked on this electric blue Escort RS1600 and simply had to have a model of it, regardless of scale. A ‘quickie’ on Google led me to the discovery of GreenLight’s Fast & Furious movie cars in 1:43 scale. The best part was the RS1600 was one of them. I bought it and had it displayed on my office desk for ages just so I could look at it every working day. I still have the GreenLight proudly displayed, albeit now at home once I had my own place.

Fast forward a few years and I was no longer a fresh graduate with a pile of a student loan to clear. So with great purchasing power comes great desirability for larger scale models. No longer satisfied with a 1:43 representation for one of the greatest homologation specials, I added the 1:18 version in May 2018. This was a direct purchase from the Minichamps webstore that cost €113 plus €36 in shipping.

When I first started this hobby, I only knew about Bburago, Maisto and AUTOart. Minichamps was an unknown to me. That was only 3 years ago and every time I think back I am always amazed at how much knowledge one can gain simply by doing some due diligence & research and how many times I have changed my collection scope. The latter has resulted in me buying some unnecessary models throughout these years, only to sell most of them as I constantly changed my themes to suit both my coffers and preferences.

This RS1600 has never ran the risk of being sold or even reboxed in its original packaging due to its alluring appeal. 3 years ago I thought it was one of the best models ever. Now? It may be one of the least detailed and refined models in my collection but definitely on the list of Top 10 that I will keep. The RS1600 was bought when my hobby was just getting started before things become more complicated and at times overwhelming, so it has permanence even beyond my hobby since I liked the car before I liked the diecast hobby.

The RS1600 was released at a time when Minichamps was in the transitional phase of making really questionable products. The production quantity was limited to only 504 pieces but it took a long time before Minichamps eventually sold the entire lot. Some details may be lacking but the build quality is very good. It feels bulky and every feature operates with sturdiness and feels to last for eternity.

Paintwork is generally good but I am beginning to see rashes on some areas, notably the hood. I have no idea whether it came from the factory like this or only manifested these past few years.

The gold wheels look amazing from a distant but if you look closer, they really look cheap and plasticky. That is weird because 3 years ago I thought they were works of art. Seems like I have been well educated in various forums these past few years. Anyway, I like the subtle badging on the front fender denoting the RS1600’s uniqueness even though it is just a simple print.

The Escort Mk I’s attractive styling is no doubt helped by its Coke-bottle styling which was very popular in those days. At the rear, the metal-effect fuel cap is a nice touch. Unlike my other Minichamps RS Escorts, the fitment of the windshield, side glasses and rear glass is excellent with no looseness and no evident of glue residue.

Camera work may not show but paint rashes has appeared on the hood.

Some minor rashes are appearing on the boot. Hopefully that is as worst as it gets.

The interior of the RS1600 is such a low point of the model. The whole dashboard seems like one massive single-mold plastic and lacks details. The pedals really look laughable in my opinion. I think you can replace them with some LEGO shovels and they will look much better!

Viewing from the front passenger side is improved slightly by the appearance of the red fire extinguisher. Strong evidence of budget manufacturing is evident here when you can see the entire piece of the plastic window molding across the non-existent headliner. At least the bucket seats look cool.

The hood is supported by a pair of dogleg hinges. Not the prettiest things but these are very sturdy and well produced. The beating heart of the Escort RS1600 is a 1,599 cc Cosworth BDA with 115 hp @ 6,500 rpm and 112 lb-ft @ 4,000 rpm. The engine bay here by Minichamps is quite good especially with the iconic blue cam covers but I would have liked the carburetors to be more detailed. The performance numbers from the engine may appear underwhelming but do consider the fact that this car weighs only ~770 kg.

The boot is spartan at best, just like the real car but you are missing some period accessories such as a full-size spare and jack. Hey, at least you still get the rear-mounted battery, not shown above.

Interior room at the back looks spacious enough despite the intrusion from the roll cage. More evidence of cheap manufacturing here. Never have I seen a fuel cap which you can spot from the interior of the rear passenger.

The undercarriage is a mixed bag. Mostly are cheap shiny plastic bits but you do get some fine detailing on the front and rear suspensions, which are nice to look at. The RS1600 came with MacPherson struts at the front and a solid rear axle on leaf springs for the rear. Also I love a model which you can see part of the engine assembly even from underneath.

This Escort RS1600 certainly looks the part with its wealth of Cibie rally lights.

Do not be fooled though as there are many pretenders out there. Also I absolutely hate these headlight spruces that Minichamps is so notorious of, giving the model a frog’s eyes appearance. It could be an easy rectification but I fear messing everything up so it shall remain ugly stock.

3 years ago, the RS1600 was such a blockbuster to me. Though it has stood the test of time, this model now simply cannot hold a candle to my other recent new additions. Sure, this review seems to highlight more of its flaws than strengths but what it lacks for in merit, the model simply aces in its charm.

If you haven’t noticed, this Minichamps is not exactly a replica of the Fast & Furious 6 movie car, cue the different rally lights and side mirrors being the most obvious giveaways.

Together with the Toyota AE86 Corolla Sprinter Trueno, this Escort is the only model in my collection that has all 3 scales represented, 1:64, 1:43 and 1:18.

Certainly an automotive legend like the Ford Escort RS1600 should deserve a more detailed 1:18 scale replica no? At this point, I see no brand making a metal version of it with full accessibility. As with resin, anything is possible nowadays but I am not into that. At one point, the RS1600 was even published on AUTOart’s product catalogue only to not see actual production. An AUTOart-made RS1600 would no doubt be such a cracker of a scale model.

Alas, one can only dream on and I still cherish this Escort very much indeed that I even commissioned a visual artiste to produce an electric print of it which has since been my desktop wallpaper. The review may have been 3 years late in the making but the fact that I still enjoy waxing lyrical over it is a true testament to its enduring appeal.

OK, so I had to bust in with a silly tittle Hey I'm 60, I'm allowed!

I am new to the world of diecast collecting. What got me started was my dream car, the 1971, 72, 73 Mustang. Realizing at my age I will never own a real one, I decided I could own models of it. I guess I am what would be called a low end collector. Most of my cars are 1/64 Johnny Lightning,Auto World, Hot Wheels, Greenlight. I do have a few 1/24 and 1/43 MotorMax, Jada, Newray, etc. I really don't care about brand, just that it's a 'stang.'

I've started to branch off into my second favorite, the AMC Javelin, but only have a couple so far. Yes, I do have a few other random late 60's and early 70's muscle cars I found really cheap. (hey, I grew up in the early 70's)

I take everything out of the package and display them in a china cabinet. Personally, I think there is too much made about the cardboard. I'm in this for the cars. According to the sticky I read from the administrator this is ok. It's what makes you happy. I hope this is true. I tried another message board that made me feel like I didn't belong cause I don't spend thousands on the top of the line. Hey, I still like being married!

Hopefully I will be accepted here and find others who love a certain car and get to see what's out there, and learn some, ok, a lot of things I don't know about this hobby.

REVIEW: 1:18 Looksmart Ferrari J50

During a special celebration held at the National Art Centre in Tokyo to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ferrari in Japan on 13th December 2016, the Ferrari J50 was unveiled to the world. Just 10 examples of this car will exist - each one being fully bespoke and tailored to the owner's specifications. Estimated to cost their lucky owners in the region of €2.5 - €3 million, only Ferrari's one-off Special Projects cars are rarer.

The Ferrari J50 is a two seat mid-engined roadster that is based on the 488 Spider, but uses an uprated 681bhp version of the critically acclaimed 3.9 litre turbocharged V8 engine (which won the 2016 International Engine of the Year Award). Gone is the Spider's folding roof, replaced with a pair of carbon fibre targa panels. Coupled with that wraparound visor-style front window, the look is certainly super sleek!

With an all-new body tailored specifically to the Japanese market, this futuristic and quite radical design approach was "led by the desire to create a very low-slung roadster, encapsulating intrinsic Ferrari values of nimbleness and agility" (Ferrari J50 Press Release). The car is defined by two strong lines on the side - the slanted top edge of the window, which feeds into the windscreen and the lower, steeply-raked black swage line that starts from the nose and tails off in the air intake behind the doors. The latter design cue has definitely been inspired by legends such as the 288 GTO, F40 and F50.

Moving round to the rear and you can see how "the engine is framed by a transparent polycarbonate cover which is intricately shaped to provide a visual extension of the two separate roll hoops protecting the heads of driver and passenger". The four tail light design serves to widen the rear of the car and the "rear diffuser features an extractor shape inspired by jet engine afterburners, giving the car a powerful stance" (Ferrari J50 Press Release).

The launch specification shown here is a unique shade of triple layer red, with a red on black leather and Alcantara interior. No Ferrari would look complete without a red paint option, but in my opinion, there are better colours that customers have chosen.

Looksmart Models are no strangers to producing Ferrari scale models and here they are again with a 1:18 scale replica of this special edition J50. A member of the MR Group and a sister brand to MR Collection Models the MR Group is an Official Supplier of Ferrari and this 1:18 Looksmart Ferrari J50 is, of course, a Ferrari Official Licensed Product. You will regularly find their models on display at Ferrari premieres and of course in Ferrari stores worldwide!

Looksmart have replicated the Ferrari J50 in 1:18 scale in six rather unique colour combinations - I'm certain there will be at least one to suit each collector's tastes!

MR Group very kindly sent me one of their 1:18 Looksmart Ferrari J50 models to review and gave me the option to choose a preferred colour. I immediately knew I had to go for the French Racing Blue with gold wheels! It is so far off the typical red/black/yellow Ferrari models that seem to make up most people's collections (including my own), so I thought the blue and gold combination would be suitably out there. I certainly wasn't disappointed when I opened the box up for the first time! Suggested RRP for these models is 290EUR, but a quick search on the main European model retailers shows a price in the region of 250-265EUR.

So how do Looksmart's efforts pan out? This is not my first model from MR Group. I've been fortunate enough to review their MR Collection 1:18 Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta and Looksmart 1:43 Ferrari Portofino and both were nice efforts - I was particularly surprised at how much detail they managed to pack into a 1:43 model and their LaFerrari Aperta showcased some new materials and features, so those two reviews are well worth a read if you haven't done so already! Perhaps more importantly, how do their efforts stack up against the competition from the more expensive 1:18 Ferrari J50 from rival BBR? Let's dive in and find out!

The 1:18 Looksmart Ferrari J50 is presented in their typical Ferrari packaging - a red two section box with the Ferrari and Looksmart logos on, plus a sticker on the side designating the model within. You'll also find a Ferrari Official Product sticker with a holographic Prancing Horse logo on reminding you that you're getting the real deal!

Slide off the upper section, drop the front flap and you'll be presented with the model sitting on a blue leather effect base with an acrylic cover to protect it on top. The combination of the French Racing Blue and gold wheels with the blue and yellow interior immediately strikes you as a thing of beauty! This thing is jaw-droppingly pretty and I knew that I had chosen the right spec. To my own eyes, the blue and gold are a bit darker than what Looksmart's promo pictures may suggest. This particular colour seems very difficult to capture 100% honestly as the naked eye would see it, so do bear that in mind before you order. Personally, I don't think you will complain if you had your heart set on the French Racing Blue variant either way - it is simply stunning to behold!

Lift off the silky smooth acrylic display cover and you get hit up the nostrils with that typical whiff of paint and glue from the model - nothing has changed from my review of the MR Collection 1:18 Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta and I still enjoy that "new model" smell two years on! I'm curious to know who else enjoys this olfactory sensation too or am I the only weird one out there? This is our first proper look at the French Racing Blue paintjob with the gold wheels in all its glory. The colour is quite hard to capture and looks different depending on the level and type of light. As I said earlier, I absolutely love it! Would you have chosen this colour too? So far I can't see a bad angle on the model and you can definitely see the styling evolution from this J50 to the recently announced Ferrari F8 Tributo and SF90 Stradale.

Being limited to just ten examples in the whole world (and all initially sold to Japanese buyers) it hasn't been too easy to find close up pictures of the real car, never mind to match the French Racing Blue we have for review here! However, I stumbled upon a little article in The Official Ferrari Magazine which featured a couple of pictures and a video on this exact specification, so here are a few pictures of the real car to compare and contrast with our 1:18 Looksmart Ferrari J50.

Zooming in immediately to the badges around the model, firstly starting with the Prancing Horse badge on the front. Looksmart have created a recess in the body moulding to place a proper badge in there but opted to use a simple decal instead. The quality of the decal itself is perfectly fine, but it would have been nice to see the same sort of proper solid badge I know they have used on the MR Collection Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta I've reviewed. It would seem that BBR has used a solid badge on theirs. In person, it is definitely not a game-changer though.

The Cavallino shields on the sides ahead of the doors are again decals. The cut lines are top notch and the quality and colour reproduction are really good. Of course, it would have been nice to see proper solid badges like BBR has provided on their model, but Looksmart's effort here is still great - just look how that yellow pops!

The Ferrari script sitting atop the carbon rear wing and Prancing Horse below are both made out of photoetched metal. You'll also notice the LED brake light with individual LED bulbs clearly defined within which is a nice detail. The resin cast rear grilles do a half decent job replicating the mesh ones found on the real car, but I am always disappointed to find fake mesh effect on any higher cost model car - this one being no exception. This is not the only example on the model which we will see as the review progresses

The front end on the J50 signals quite the departure from the current crop of Ferraris, such as the 488 Pista and GTC4 Lusso. The headlights especially are mere slits in the slim nose with that giant radiator grille below. You'll be glad to know this is real perforated mesh and makes the front of the model look sleek and mean. Why couldn't they do the same on the rear?!?! Those aero flicks either side of the central carbon section of the lip spoiler look really cool too! Speaking of carbon, it is well applied and nice and glossy. It even extends to the two air channels on the bonnet, although my particular example could have benefited from the carbon decal being applied right to the very edges of said air channels.

The headlights themselves are well replicated featuring the indicator strips embedded into that black swage line reminiscent of the Ferrari 288 GTO. Sorry if it is a bit difficult to see the headlight detail, the plastic lens covers offer up a bit too much glare and reflection.

Moving around to the rear of the model and we again see how unique the design of the J50 is compared to other Ferraris that have come before it. The quad tail light design widening the car visually under a high-downforce wing profile. From this distance, the resin cast mesh effect doesn't look too bad and I think on the shelf collectors will struggle to notice it unless they are actively looking for it. I'm not excusing Looksmart's lack of detail, however! The rear diffuser features an extractor shape inspired by jet engine afterburners, giving the car a powerful stance.

Those quad tail lights have a real sense of depth to them and the light shines through them to give off a super realistic look. The twin exhaust system housed in those glossy carbon pods also looks great. They're hollow enough to look convincing and even have those indentations around the circumference of the tips. Sadly the resin cast mesh effect is present here as well and I'd say that's the only feature that lets the rear down.

The large rear wing is also covered in glossy carbon fibre. The finish and application are done superbly here as well, with the weave being consistent throughout. There are two mesh grilles on either side of the transparent engine cover that are resin cast yet again. BBR has done these in proper mesh, mind.

The carbon fibre extends to the rollover hoops behind the driver and passenger seats as well. I'm definitely impressed with the application here because, as you can see, the shape of them are quite complex - well done, Looksmart! Did you notice the little holes towards the outer edges of the windscreen surround? They're for the roof panel to slot into. Looksmart probably didn't need to add this very minor addition to the mould, but it is often small details like this that can make a big impact. Any additional detail is always welcome in my opinion!

The 3.9 litre V8 engine sits beneath a transparent engine cover that mimics the polycarbonate cover of the 1:1 car faithfully and is intricately shaped to provide a visual extension of the aforementioned separate roll hoops. There is a pleasingly decent depth to the engine bay, with various low down parts and hoses replicated. The Ferrari stamping on the oil filler cap as well as the traditional silver Ferrari script on the engine plenum ensure you know exactly who makes the beating heart of this ultra-limited edition car. As good as it is, Looksmart's version does give some points away in the engine department to BBR's own effort - there is no carbon fibre in the engine bay at all here, plus the eight silver bolts on the black part of the plenum are missing altogether. BBR replicates both of these points well.

It is disappointing yet again to see the resin cast mesh in the air intakes aft of the doors - such a shame!

I think Looksmart have pretty much nailed the stance of their J50 with it looking far better than the high riding BBR version. The 20 inch forged rims created specifically for this special limited edition model look fabulous, especially in this lovely metallic gold colour. Looksmart have truly done a stellar job on their whole wheel setup, let down only by the lack of tyre branding. BBR don't have any on theirs either, but it still beggars belief that 250EUR and upwards models don't have this key feature and it is one of the reasons why I love AUTOart's models so much - wheels maketh the model! The wheel nuts, calipers, brake discs and calipers with Ferrari script are all replicated really well. Special mention must go to the chromed air valves that appear to have been genuinely placed inside the rim, rather than just being part of the rim mould itself - this reallt adds to the realism. The bolts on the dark grey central section of the discs also look truly authentic. Overall, a remarkable effort on the wheels from the Looksmart team! I must also point out that Looksmart have included the orange side indicator which seems to be missing from BBR's model.

With this being a sealed resin model, obviously nothing opens and when I buy sealed models I will always try and buy the open top version where available, because what is the point in having a model where you can't at least enjoy the interior?! The J50 does have a pair of removable roof panels and luckily Looksmart chose to replicate the car with the roof off and the interior fully on show. And my, what a pretty decent interior this is! Starting with the driver's area, the steering wheel and dials are very impressive. The application of carbon fibre on all those contours of the wheel, door cards and around the air vents is not to be sniffed at and kudos must be given to those guys in the factories applying all these decals by hand. I'm not fully convinced on the scale of the carbon weave, however. The buttons around the wheel are well defined, but we're still missing the proper mesh for the speaker grilles in the doors. The yellow accents and striping around the dashboard and seats matches nicely with that on the seats as we'll soon see. I think only DNA Collectibles could have done a better job with those silver knobs in the driver's zone.

The climate controls look pretty good, with even the tiniest numbers and graphics legible. However, when you compare them to the real car below the definition of the buttons themselves could certainly be better. I would have also liked to have seen the yellow contrast stitching replicated throughout.

Yet more finely applied carbon fibre is present on the central tunnel. You've got a few buttons for selecting the reverse/auto/launch functions as well as the hazard lights, plus the window buttons below. There does appear to be a Ferrari script missing on that black mound next to the window switches, however. It is a shame to see the three gear buttons have not been given the same love as the rest in the cockpit. You even have some cupholders for that 1:18 scale can of Red Bull!

Even more bits of carbon fibre around the passenger area of the cockpit. I really like the multi-layered and multi-textured layout of the passenger zone. The mix of black, blue and carbon looks good with the air vents, glovebox latch and J50 graphic all particularly worthy of note. I have seen pictures of the J50 with the Passenger Display system fitted where that carbon fibre strip is above the glovebox, but I'm unsure if that was a standard fit item or not. There is also some wrinkling of the carbon decal beneath the air vent, which is unfortunate on my example.

Finally, we come to the seats. I really like the yellow accents that match the rest of the pinstriping around the cabin. The blue seats themselves go well with the French Racing Blue exterior and serve to tie the whole spec of the car together perfectly. I'm still glad I chose this colour combination. Make sure you take a look at the carbon fibre door cards and the seat belt receivers complete with red buttons. Again, it is all the small details that add up to make a larger impact on the collector.

Thankfully we have real fabric seatbelts with photoetched buckles. Looksmart could teach AUTOart a lesson or two on this front because they seem to think it is OK to use plastic seatbelts for some reason. The carbon fibre on the windscreen surround is again completed almost beyond reproach. Last but not least, the yellow Cavallino on the headrests top off an overall great looking interior.

So what did you think of this 1:18 Looksmart Ferrari J50? Did you even know the real car existed, with it being so rare? Looksmart Models have been gradually increasing their prices over the last few years. In most instances, there is usually no correlation between price increase and model quality and details. That is not the case here - the quality of this model is really very good! The biggest letdown for me has been the use of resin cast "mesh" on a lot of the model instead of the proper perforated stuff they've used on the front grille. It really is a shame and I hope they'll improve on this in the future. Other than that I don't really have any other glaring negative things to point out which I would usually use to tell you to avoid buying this model.

But what about BBR's model? No review would be complete without checking it out against the competition and at the moment it is just Looksmart and BBR as the only two players in town. The key differences, both positive and negative are:

BBR's model sits higher, whereas the Looksmart version has a much better stance.
BBR has pumped in some much better detail into the engine bay - the use of carbon fibre, photoetched clips on the piping and the eight metal bolts on the plenum serve to elevate the engine detail to another level over the Looksmart one.
BBR seems to have added extra venting holes around the exhausts that don't seem to be there on the real car.
The BBR version has more perforated mesh around the car - behind the doors, between engine bay and wing. This is a key differentiator for me.
BBR has fancier packaging with a carbon fibre base and limited edition plaque. I don't believe the Looksmart version is made in limited numbers if you care about that sort of thing.
BBR missed out some small key features that Looksmart did include - door locks and side indicators below the Ferrari shields. Plus Looksmart's tail lights are a far better representation than BBR's, no doubt about it.
The climate control buttons are better on BBR's version.

If you only have 265EUR or so to spend, the Looksmart Ferrari J50 is a no brainer. If you can afford the BBR version which seems to be retailing for around the 400EUR mark at the moment, are you getting enough over the Looksmart version for that extra 135EUR? Only you can truly decide that.

New diorama for outdoor pictures

Its me again! My last diorama sucked, mainly because its too small and thus useless. This one: https://www.diecastx...street-diorama/ But I did keep the sidewalk, I like that.

This new one is 90x90 cm, and that might actually be too big, but thats a better problem to have. Using roofing tile thingy material as usual as a base for tarmac. Glued to some plywood with woodglue, and then nailed down when dry. The subtle stripes is a problem for later.

Styrene sheets that will form parts of the sidewalk area.

Styrene beams covered in AK Concrete. Once dry any excess is easily cut away with a knife.

Subtle production stripes in the "tarmac" are now mostly gone. All I do is to get some sand, sprinkle it on randomly, and then shaking the excess off, and finally sealing with matte clear. Later I will use coarse sandpaper to creat more randomness.

This is purely info for myself, lol. Colour test for the tiled parts, I used AK Dark rust. Actually the main reason I do these build threads is pure selfishness, I read my own all the time to remember what I did to this and that, lol.

Putting down the edges and shape of the parking lot. I use woodglue a lot since its cheap and goes almost invisible once cured. The only negative is curing time, but since its basically southern Spain in Norway right now (32 C when this picture was taken!) cure time is not that bad.

Tiling painted. It will look better later.

Tiling installed+ test fitting a wall made from foam board. The wall will be removable and of course covered in concrete, but I will keep it white I think. Several problems here, like the tile repair with its exposed white border, and the transition between the concrete sidewalk and the tiled part. Luckily the concrete is such a joy to work with that stuff like that is super easy. Just cut a bit to make the seam more smoth and then get some concrete on.

This is why I made it so big, a camera can play with all of that area without getting anything else in frame. Of course that means I need a wall section for the tiled parts too. My plan is to make a bunch of small cafe tables and chairs, etc.

Concrete on the wall. Again any excess will be cut away once dry, then I will block sand it to get a finer finish, and finally paint it white. Oh, and then weather it a bit, streaks and such.

The texture is pretty good straight from the can, but once sanded it really looks amazing. (this is not sanded)

Masking for stripes. 13 cm space for a car, 8mm stripes. Again, because of the coarse texture of the base I cant spraypaint these, as it bleeds underneath the masking tape, so I paint an outline with thick acrylic paint and a brush, making sure the brush is vertical.

What it looks like now. Lots to do still!

2019 Lexus ES300h (XZ10) - Pearl White

Here's another 1:18 'daily driver' I've been for: The new 2019 Lexus ES300h. There's this excitement in me every time someone releases an everyday-car in 1:18
I personally love the direction Toyota Motor Corp is going with their design and this latest generation of Lexus LS shows how that design language matures in this entry-level Lexus.

So this Lexus ES300h is the Chinese Dealer Promo edition and as expected, it's very nicely weighted and loaded with neat features like opening moonroof, opening glovebox, and removable engine cover (see photo). But unfortunately the fuel filler door is sealed.

There are SO MANY good things about this car so I will try not to ramble too much here.
First, there are zero quality issues. This really is a premium model (AutoArt and Almost Real - are you guys seeing this?).
Second, the interior details are amazing. Probably one of the top-10 1:18 interior I've seen.
Third the engine details (with the removable cover) is very convincing.

Based on the LED headlights, wheels, and interior color, this car is closest to USDM spec Hybrid Ultra Luxury trim. Interestingly it also has the USDM amber side-markers. So I decided to slap a Michigan license plate on the ES (since there isn't a plate on the front and my home state happens to only require rear plate. Perfect!).

There really isn't much negative with this car. If I can nitpick, I would say the rear trunk-mounted spoiler is slightly darker hue than the rest of the car. Also they can improve the stance by pushing the wheels outward just a hair and reduce the panel gap between the hood and front fascia. The 18" wheels look just a tad smallish but it's actually accurate to the 1:1.

I realize that this car is a very close cousin to the Toyota Avalon, but since I don't have a 1:18 Avalon, I decoded to shoot this car with the XV70 Camry (scroll to the bottom), the 1st Toyota car which employs this new design language.

BMW 8-Series Generations: E31 and G15 - Summer Photoshoot

So there are some good reviews already in this forum on the new Norev BMW G15 M850s (see the ones by 'Dave aka DND-Land' and 'T1000'), so I won't add much writings since the existing review are pretty much dead on. Instead I'll share some side-by-side photoshoot of both generations of BMW 8-series: The E31 and G15.

The E31 to me is still the BEST looking BMW to date! This particular 1:18 is made by OTTO and it's the ALPINA version of the 850i, rechristened as B12 5.7. I absolutely love the color and wheel choices on this car and even though it's sealed, the interior details are very good and the light colored upholstery contrasted really well with the (avus?) blue paint job.
The G15 is made by Norev as part of the BMW official dealer edition. The good news here is it's a full-opening diecast instead of sealed resin. Well, I shouldn't said full-opening as for some weird reason Norev chose to seal the trunk
The paint quality is good and the metallic sparkles (although a bit too much) add some depth to the paint. The front grilles are too massive by my taste and I'm tempted to shadow-line this car, but never got the chance. The panel gaps on this model can be improved as well. I'm OK with the Barcelona Blue color but I rather have this car in white. Overall this is a worthy addition if you're into collecting BMW official releases, but if you decide to add one make sure you don't pay more than $95 as it's not worth more than that.

Paudi Dealer Edition Models - 2008 Toyota Vios (Black)

And now, something closer to home both literally and figuratively. This Toyota Vios is, for now, the only 1:18 diecast in my collection which I have driven. In fact, the Vios is part of my extended family fleet as it is currently the daily driver of my sister.

There are some minor deviations. The actual car above is in dark grey metallic while the dealer edition model, made by Paudi, is in black mica. Disappointingly, Paudi opted not to release the 2008 Vios in this color. And since this is a dealer edition model, the driver is obviously seated on the left while Malaysians drive on the other side.

This Vios is a second generation, designated XP90.

This Vios is a second generation, designated XP90.The Toyota Vios is a front-engine front-wheel-drive subcompact developed specifically for the emerging Asia Pacific markets. The Vios traces its ‘inspiration’ and origin from the Echo or Yaris of North America and Yaris respectively.

Positioned just below the ubiquitous Corolla, the first Vios, XP40, was introduced in 2002. The 2^nd generation Vios, XP90, was released in 2008. The XP90 Vios was essentially a rebadged Yaris sedan. In Japan, it was known as the Belta, which is a contraction of the Italian words bella and gente, meaning “beautiful people”. This Vios was predominantly assembled in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. Since its debut, the Vios has remained one of the best selling cars in Malaysia.

Besides being a best seller, what is the big deal with this econobox? Well, I remember when the Vios first reached the mass market it was a revelation. Here you have a Toyota which cost less than RM 100,000 (~USD 26,000 based on 2002 exchange rates) which was a big deal back then. Side note, cars are generally very expensive in Malaysia due to various tariffs to protect the national car brand, Proton, which has since been under Chinese ownership. To have a more accurate illustration and to exclude the impact of the tariffs, just imagine a proper 4-door sedan with Japanese dependability that costs less than USD 10,000.

The first generation Vios, designated XP40. Sure it is no groundbreaking vehicle but it was my dream car in high school simply because of how attainable it was. Looks quite attractive too.

The Vios was not the first Japanese subcompact to stir the South East Asian market. That distinction belongs to the Honda City. Aesthetically, I have never liked the City. The Vios though, has a more charming and youthful appearance to it.

I may have over-delivered on the background of this humdrum of a motorcar, so back to the scale model. This 1:18 replica in diecast is from Paudi although there is zero hint of the brand on both the packaging and the model itself.

I bought this model on a whim chiefly to try out AliExpress and due to the ridiculously low price of only USD 48. Add in the USD 15 shipping fee and a first-purchase promo code, the final transaction valued at only USD 61. That is lower than the typical shipping rate that Replicarz usually charge me.

The packaging feels very ‘corporate Toyota’ with its presentation and the Vios illustration is straight out of a brochure. The seller from China was kind enough to give a pair of handling gloves and cleaning cloth so that the Vios will always remain in ‘showroom condition’.

The gloves are totally useless though. After only one wash, not only have they shrunk but one of the fingers has teared.

Halfway unboxing the Vios and I found another cleaning cloth, a romantic keychain and some pocking-brushing thingy.

The model is housed within a 2-piece Styrofoam shell with no screw attachment. It is a snug fit though so there is no concern about the model shifting around during its journey from China to Singapore, all in a matter of 11 days.

A black Vios I saw a few days ago. Slightly modified but thankfully not totally ‘riced’. Who knows, maybe the engine bay is untouched.

The Vios is generally well built with a serious heft to it, given the diminutive profile. The model comes with plenty of photoetched emblems on the front panels and trunk lid, that have protective sheets on them which is a commendable practice.

Panel gaps are amazing in this model. The model even puts some of my most favourite AUTOart models to shame. I never bought AUTOart’s argument that having finer panel gaps was one of the goals of going composite and never will. To eradicate long-term paint defects? Yes, totally understandable. Costs reduction and panel gaps refinement? Those are more nonsense to me now.

Before I over-gloss this model, I bring your attention to the first of a few flaws. The grille is only a solid piece of plastic with no perforation but the lower air intake is not. To validate that the lower air intake is ‘passable’ to the engine bay, I used a torch light to illuminate the front of the air intake and check if the light beam can be seen from the engine bay. No light beam was seen in the engine bay, that is because just behind the lower air intake is a radiator piece. Paudi even bothered to put a radiator in such a tight spot that no one would ever notice, except for me. Another commendable execution.

Paudi has no need to place a radiator on this model as it is hardly visible. Yet, they did it anyway and this deserves respect. It looks like a poorly made radiator though but it is the attention to detail that matters!

Detailing of the headlights are fine, nothing spectacular. Inclusion of the parking sensor on the front bumper is a nice touch. While the definition of the fog lights is decent, the presence of the spruce is quite an eye sore.

For those who are familiar with these dealer edition models, you know they are feature-packed. The Vios comes with foldable mirrors too. The mirrors are held in place by exposed screws. Obviously, AUTOart is not the only guilty party here with exposed screws but Paudi deserves some credit for at least knowing where best to hide them.

I did mention that the panel gaps are excellent. That is as far as the gap is concern. The consistency of the gap though is another matter as you can observe from the line between the front panel and the driver’s door.

The powerplant of ‘my’ Vios is the 1.5-litre 1NZ-FE 4-cylinder with VVT-i and 4-speed automatic transmission. This being a China-spec Vios, the engine is a slightly larger 1.6-litre 1ZR-FE with dual VVT-i.

Trim levels were J, E, G and S for the Malaysian market. The one owned by my sister is an E-grade but I have no idea which trim this model is based on since the China market adopted different trim options. The 1,598 cc engine makes a whopping ~114 bhp @ 6,000 rpm and an earth-shattering ~110 lb-ft of torque @ 4,200 rpm.

The details here are generally accurate and decent. The Vios was never an exciting car anyway so do not expect the engine bay to be its greatest party piece. The dogleg hinges appear rather crude but they operate flawlessly.

At the rear, you get a similarly well-made pair of rear-lighting. There are plenty of photoetched emblems here. One of the many moving features here is the openable fuel door on the left.

The trunk space comes fully ‘carpeted’. Unfortunately, the trunk opening is lacking in generosity while functionality is again via a pair of dogleg hinges.

Braking is via disc brakes at the front and drums at the rear, meaning this is not based on the highest-spec Vios. The 5-spoke rims look pretty nice but the overall appearance is let down by the very plasticky looking brake calipers and rotors.

As with any budget-friendly cars, you get only drums at the rear.

The interior of the Vios is a classic exercise of simplicity. Too simple perhaps. I prefer an interior with just the essential HVAC knobs and strategically placed stereo. A nice design touch was the position of the instrumentation in the centre.

The interior of the model comes with a 2-tone dashboard. The steering wheel looks laughably out of shape. Inclusion of rubber mat on the carpeted floor is a surprise.

Clearly the interior appears rather crude despite packing full of details. The gauges are only stickers while I am not a fan of the silver trim piece of the dash. Rubber floor mat is obviously only a driver’s privilege.

The car seats feel like air mattresses.

The car seats have some unique quirks and features. The front seats slide fore and aft and then there is the seat material. This is not the typical solid plastic. The seats are supremely squishy like they are all made of Baymax.

For your typical Asian build, there is plenty of legroom at the back. The middle seat is best reserved for short journeys or your least favorite passenger. Paudi’s color scheme here coupled with provision of the sunroof lends the cabin an airy ambience.

Detailing on the driver’s doorcard is decent. The cutout for placing your water carrier is even captured here as well as the speaker.

The Vios comes with a sunroof. Unfortunately the glass piece does not move but it is fun to have the working cover piece.

Flipping the Vios over, you get what is an extremely well-detailed undercarriage. This level of design and engineering surpasses all the major brands out there. What impresses that most is that despite having only 2 colors here, the definitions and details are there for you to see and marvel at. By the way, the Vios comes with functioning suspension front and rear. Bear all these in mind when you consider the model costs less than USD 60.

Suspension design is MacPherson struts at the front and torsion beam at the back. At the front, not only do you get to marvel at the suspension componentry, you can also look at part of the transversely-mounted engine.

The Toyota Vios is your typical no-frills basic transportation with a somewhat charming character. I have always liked the first-gen XP40, which does seem to mature gracefully with age. The second-gen XP90 has a more flamboyant appearance which may look ungainly from certain angles but it is a car that is closer to my heart since I have driven it before. The current XP150 Vios is the 3^rd generation and has been on sale since 2013 but has undergone some nip and tuck. In the 10 years since the Vios was introduced, Toyota has managed to sell more than 1.5 million of these.

Given its size, I was amazed at how heavy the Vios is. Which is why I was very surprised when it tipped the scale at only 820 grams.

To be honest, I was quite nervous before the Vios arrived. What if I end up not liking it as much? After all, the actual car is probably last in mind when you think about exciting rides. Thankfully, the Vios has exceeded expectations at all fronts. Sure you do get the usual defects such as adhesive residue and paint blemishes but generally this is a well-crafted and executed model.

This is legitimately when the sum is so much greater than the parts.

For a sedan that is based on a hatchback, I’d say the Vios has had a neat transition from 2-box to 3-box.

Totally unexpected and absolutely gorgeous car!!!

Ecurie Ecosse will built a limited series of road and track 1960s spec V12 Le Mans cars inspired by the one and only Jaguar XJ13 that never raced. The team behind the revived Ecurie Ecosse (ecuriecars.com) has already built a few XJ13 replica said to be identical to the pre-1971 crashed XJ13.

Now I will need a model of this one to go with my XJ13.

Hey guys,

I decided to sell about a third of my collection and also, I thought a lot about the hobby as such itself. Since registering here a few years ago, I really got into it and my collection grew quite a bit. Also, thanks to this forum, I managed to get a few very cool models. Many, many thanks again at this point!

However, with ever increasing prices of new models, limited space at home and a few other dreams (mainly one at the moment), I went back and forth but finally decided it's time to let go of a few things. This allows me to save up, I gotta start somewhere. I'll keep collecting Vipers, I'll probably add the Challengers and Chargers to come out from AUTOart, I might throw in an Aston or Lotus down the road, but much of the rest has to go. I do keep all my red AUTOart Corvette generations, most of the Astons and Lotus, as well as a few single brand models. I will be back on here every now and then, too.

I am in the process of photographing all the models which will have to leave; I downloaded the sale template already from here and I decided to offer the models here, first. Check out the "For Sale" part on the forums in the next days, there might be a few hot items :-) I'm in no hurry, what won't go here will be put on eBay later on.

Norev's BMW M850i vs M5 - quick-ish reviews

While we already have a proper Norev 8er review on here thanks to David, I haven't seen a Norev M5 review (or have missed it). So here's one and how both car stack to each other, keeping in mind that the 8er is more expensive.

From what I can see the reasons the M850i is more expensive is the paint and that's about it. Oh, and also maybe the front is a bit better detailed/finished off than on the M5.

The M850i is first:

Just look at all those pearls. You can't NOT call the car "Sprinkles" when you see it

It's especially disco-ball-like on direct sun and also looks like it's been through a was and hasn't dried yet.

Still not a fan of that "Barcelona Blue" though. I got it with the idea to repaint it, but seeing all the sparkles/sprinkles/pearls... It will stay like that for now.

The taillights are one of the bland details on the car. The reflectors underneath are actually well detailed, but somehow they just don't come off well. I think a bit of blackwash could bring out more definition to the reflectors which will be better visible through the lens. The trunk is sealed

The interior is rather nice. It's well detailed, although if also feels a bit rough around the edges. A nice touch is the use of photoetched logos on the door sills. It really gives the overall look up a notch. Carpets and fabric seatbelts with photo-etch buckles complete the look.

Did i say "look at those sparkles?"

The engine is "meh", but it's actually a bit better than on the M5. I looked at the real car, it also has this "melted"-like...stuff on the front, but it's actually a pressed metal plate and better defined. Norev have decided to just have the impression of something there and the result is worse if they had actually just put a smooth plate there.

Photoethed details are everywhere, even the wheel-caps. The calipers are nice (in the wrong color though), but the brake discs look disappointing, but they are correct to the real car.

Onto the M5:

Looks a lot bigger. The paint also has pearls, but a lot less and more discrete. No disco-ball effect here.

But the clear-coated carbon roof is a nice touch

She ain't no "Sprinkles"

The big advantage over the M850i - everything opens. The engine is similar to the 8er, a tad bit more bland which is a disappointment considering it's one of the highlights of any M5. But the metal plate in front of it is better detailed than on the M850i.

The trunk is full-size, mostly carpet-ed (the wheel-wells aren't).

The door-sills are regular stickers, no photo-etched logos as on the M850i.

Fully carpeted interior, fabric seatbelts with photo-etched buckles all around.

Nice amount of details, although again, it feels a little rough on the edges.

Photoetched logos and a lot better breaks, calipers and wheels.

The taillights suffer from the same issue as the 8er. All the details are there, but they wash-away. A bit of blackwash or something to that effect should help add definition... If you manage to pull the lens out, of course.

The M5 logo isn't photoetched and looks a bit oversized.

Both suffer from solid front grilles, but if you hide them in the shade, it ain't that bad Still, I'd explore to see if it's viable to change them.

Matrix have announced a couple of 1/18s, apparently due late October. For those unfamiliar with the brand, they are well known for high end 1/43s.

I believe these are their first 1/18s. They are huge news - at least for me! - in that they are releasing an absolute classic that has not, AFAIK, been released in that scale before. The Lister Jaguar Knobbly, in race variant (Stirling Moss, no less) and plain body. Retail is just over �200 on car model.com, who have images:

I believe they'll be resin, but they seem to have working steering. Both are listed as limited editions but no word on edition sizes.

Mercedes G-Class 'Stronger than time' edition - Minichamps

Whether you refer to it as a G-Wagen or you refer to it as a G-Class, maybe determined by:

1) your age
2) whether you think of the G as a serious mud plugger, or seriously cool for posing down the high street

Whichever it is, the G has carved a niche for itself over the last 40 years in many fields - physical and otherwise. Personally, I’m drawn to it more as a vehicle that excels off road, hence liking this diecast version of it; if you squint a bit, it almost looks fit for military duty, the task for which the G was originally created. By making a nod to its roots, the interior on this 1:18 is darker and less interesting that the other Gs Minichamps offers though, which is a shame as the new interior is rather smart and looks splendid in the lighter colours.

Overall, this is a pretty decent diecast, not least for actually being mostly made out of metal, but also for being fully opening. Given the current state of the 1:18 ‘diecast’ market, it seems inappropriate to complain that it doesn’t have any seat belts - but Minichamps has form here, so I’ll turn a blind eye to that.

Some other observations you may want to consider if you’re thinking about buying one. It isn’t very heavy. While not the end of the world, you may wish a 1:18 of something that trades on its robustness - like a G-Class - to have some heft to it. If you want to discover why it’s so light, tap the roof. It’s plastic.

For accuracy, the doors are hinged just like the 1:1’s, via external hinges. Neat. However, as there are no internal hinges on the 1:18, the doors don’t have any tension/resistance when you open them, so they swing open and close. They close using a snug-ish latch, but should that wear over time, you may have doors flapping open with no resistance to stop them. The rear wheels are connected by an axle, and they don’t rotate individually.

Few pics of it here with Norev's hysterically heavy Sprinter, the original G-Wagen and a current C-Class; the G-Class isn't actually much longer than a C-Class, but it looks so much bigger.

Overall, I like this big beast, largely because I think it looks so cool in this spec; a G-Class homage to the G-Wagen’s original roots.

Well this is one of the most special models in my collection. This very model was gifted to me on my Wedding by my very dear friends who share the same passion(Our little scale model group in India). This came as a surprise as i had this on my wishlist back then and they made sure that i was not aware as to what was coming. Infact i was so excited to see the model that it was kept on my bed on the first night and my wife was ignored for a couple of hours, Hahaha. This car has travelled with me to places. I managed to take a few pics too. Hope you guys enjoy the photos.

I recently came into possession of a 1:18 scale bburago BMW roadster and its great but the hood, trunk and doors just flop open if you tilt the car - is this normal? do the doors have any kind od sprint action to keep them form being so loose?

In the late '60s when I was just finishing college, I'd admired a few of the Fiat 850 coupes running around Toronto and I even thought I might buy one as my first car as soon as I found reasonable employment. I've always liked small cars, and I thought these were so beautifully styled.
Luckily, I'd changed my mind by the time I had enough money to actually purchase a car, because from all reports, the Fiats at that time, although really cute, were simply not durable enough for Canadian roads and climate.
I've always maintained a fondness for those 850 coupes though, and I was delighted when Laudoracing introduced their 1/18 resin replicas of the 1968 version, and I think they've done a really accurate job.
I've mounted my model on the base of a display case which is not supplied with the model.

RAM Power Wagon Road Trip

I did a small road trip over the past week and as always, brought a model to document my travels. The plan was to stop at a couple of State and US parks, so it had to be an off-roader. And the Power Wagon was my choice...a rather large choice which ended up limiting my ability to take it with my everywhere.

The first stop was the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum in Midland, Texas. The idea of a museum about petroleum production is not all that interesting, there is a really special section dedicated to Jim Hall and his fantastic Chaparral racecars. If you are even in west Texas, GO HERE!!! They have every version of each Chaparral car ever made. Totally worth the price of admission. And the rest of the museum is pretty cool, too. Better than expected.

1/18 New Toyota Alphard...by KengFai

...and you thought that Mercedes-Benz's V-Klasse was the "Star" of Vans? Well, Toyota has created a next generation Luxo VIP Hauler that wouldn't look out of place with a Lexus badge on it's very intricately detailed front grille. I'm talking about the newest/current generation of Toyota's Alphard.

The Alphard is a mainstay staple of transportation in societies all across Japan and S.E Asia. The current generation Toyota Alphard is now becoming popular in China as well. Usually, you see a plethora of white Alphards rolling around larger cities in Japan like Tokyo or Osaka for business or personal transports. Toyota's Alphard & it's twin the Toyota Vellfire have really become a part of the Japanese automotive landscape. In Asia, you get used to seeing the medium spec'd trim level ones, some high-end spec'd ones(like this model) and for super fans, "VIP" or pronounced and called "Bippu". These owners lower, tune and spend crazy money making their Alphards as "Lux'd Out" like the traditionally typical VIP luxury sedans which are extremely popular across Japanese car culture. I call them "Yakuza Cruisers".

Speaking of "VIPs" you don't have to do too much with a premium spec'd Alphard's interior. These luxury vans are decked out nicer than most business class seating spaces on a top level passenger planes. Up front, seating is nice enough, but the 2nd row is where you want to be. Multi-position seats and other luxury amenities sounding you with plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy the ride, or just plan have a nice nap.
So, big surprise last year when Kengfai(Model Production Maker of NZG/Schuco/Century Dragon/Minikraft/Gravitas and More) decided to branch out on their own for the first time with the re-release of the Gravitas Audi RS7, Genesis G90 plus their Acura & Honda NSXs. Now KengFai has released this iconic Japanese van.

Just like the Acura/Honda NSXs, KengFai have done this model in both left and right hand drive. Being that I associate Alphards with Japan, Hong Kong and or Singapore, I went with a RHD in a "sinister" Yakuza/Triad style black variation(I originally wanted white, but didn't wait around for it's release). So, the good thing about black on this model is , that it has a high contrast with all of the chromed and polished bits.

This model is HEAVY, LARGE and HIGHLY DETAILED with many functioning features. Speaking of features, this model has dual sliding doors, dual sunroofs (In which one opens), tinted rear windows, opening lift-gate, really good motor detailing, highly detailed metal chassis with working suspensions, folding side mirrors, jewel like front & rear lighting, polished dual finish wheels and photo-etched metal badging. Move inside, and you will find the typical high contrast beige/black and wood trimmed interior found in Toyota/Lexus products since the beginning of the 90s (I guess, don't change what works..they know their customers). Under that beige leather in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rows, you will find that this model has seats that slide back and fourth. On rows 2 & 3, you will be impressed with seats that recline into multiple as well as flat positions. The model has seat-belts with PE metal buckles, proper headliner that mimics the 1/1 to a fault. Inside, you will find grab handles, full carpeting, full dash/center console and door card details help to bring this piece into focus more so quality wise.

I really like KengFai, they are excellent craftsmen and engineers. heck, they make all of those working NZG 1/18 scale trucks/trailer, but, even more the construction vehicles that actually function. So, they are used to over building their models, plus they use the best and strongest materials on their products. Mostly metal. If you ever get a chance to pick one of these up, you'll realize that this is no lightweight at all. So, I guess, that you can say that KengFai could justify their $230USD AUTOart like level price tag on this one. That said, it is $50-60 bucks more than KengFai's other Audi RS7 & Acura/Honda NSX models.

It's certainly not cheap(that's why I only have 1 black one for the moment). However, if you can swing it, I really do recommend this model. It really does add something to a collection(especially if you like Japanese cars). It's worth it and I am looking forward to more original releases from this brand that is finding a very diverse footing in the world of diecast vehicles.

2019 Range Rover Velar (Grey).....by LCD Models

Hi fellow diecasters!  Here's one that I had been waiting for since fall of last year, as it was announced back then in China at the 2018 Toy Fair. For months I had seen a couple of really great pics sent to me from my dealer/friend in China.

One of the best looking profiles of any SUV currently on the market. Such a thing of beauty and the 2nd model from new brand LCD(with their Civic Type-Rs coming soon). Again, I just couldn't have imagined that I would be buying so many SUV models in 1/18th scale 20 years ago, here in 2019..and it doesn't seem like a shortage is coming in that segment for better or worse.
At least with Range Rover's Velar, I can look at something that is far beyond just a point A to B hauler. It's nice that Rover has given this new model a slick and sporting character. Initially, I thought that it was going to replace the RR Sport, but evidently, they can co-exist side by side on dealers lots or in showrooms.

So this is my first ever LCD Model and it feels EXQUISITE! I am really impressed with the finish on this model. There are no concerning QC issues on my example, I am not disappointed, but instead pleasantly surprised with how good it is. The hood(bonnet), doors, rear hatch and even fuel cover shut-lines on my example are flawless and flush. The paint finish is even and smooth and the build quality is seriously flawless too(Pay attention AUTOart, they are pretty much a clone of you from seven years ago (but, with more working features and for a lot less).
I had originally planned to buy only the bronze version, however then I remembered that the first real one that I had ever seen being grey in color, so I changed my mind. I knew that I would have to plan for two colors. n early r mid 2017, I remembered everyone at the super market starring at it like a spaceship when they passed by or the few that just stood around and looked at it. This was obviously a press vehicle sitting there back in early 2017. All of a sudden, a young and very pregnant lady came out and loaded a kid and her groceries inside after placing her personal cart and stroller in the back, and then drove off without a word to the people standing around looking at the Velar which she was using. Such a neat and fresh sight to see.

As I really like this vehicle in reality, I waited for a releases in a colors that I would literally buy in reality for a 1/1. If only the 1/1s had a perfect reputation for being reliable as high quality as LCD is building in the model car world. Speaking of quality, when my model arrived, the packaging was a perfect. The clam shell style inner presentation that is "buttoned" down with an official looking Range Rover stamped connector for the styrofoam inner box.
I personally don't understand how a lot of other very well known brands can charge the ridiculous amounts for their models, when this model is literally better than the past and present standard line AUTOart, Kyosho,  and present day BBR as well as and other well known diecast models currently on the market. :dunno:I really don't get it?
This model has proper hinged front hood/bonnet, swinging rear center armrest and many other working features. In addition, the motor and engine bay itself are very well detailed, plus high-fidelity detailed front and rear lighting, interior switches and trim components, slightly tinted rear windows, perforated grilles, two-toned painted wheels and photo-etched badging. I was and still am impressed that this model is so well detailed and for an online price of well under $100 USD, plus my dealer's usual discounted loyalty prices, I feel like it was truly a bargain.

Well, the only real issues fro me on this model is, that all of them have a basic black interior, that's it. They could have splurged for some additional color combinations, to spice up the brand, but I am not mad at them, at least it's contrasting most colors, except for the black exterior one.
Another problem is with getting one of theses models cheaper, you do have to buy it from China....and importing it into Europe you will have to deal with protectionist Customs Fees to get it into your household. At least in you're living in the US, you'll have yours in a matter of days for dirt cheap including the minor $30 bucks for shipping fees.

This model is a wonderfully unbelievable value for the 2019 collectors scene. It truly is a higher-end diecast, but obtainable for most collectors. The details are outstanding and beyond the value that you are paying. Let's just say if AUTOart had done this model, that it would be around $250-270 dollars. That being said, the LCD Honda Civic Type-Rs coming soon, and will be AMAZING!! I can't wait to add those to my collection, I will probably end up buying 2 to 3 for the price of one plastic AUTOart Civic type-R!
LCD, has truly become my new mainstream diecast hero! Welly GT-Autos, they have your card.

Maisto GT90 BARGAIN!

Jaguar XJS - small, but big, mod

Given how well detailed AUTOart's Jaguar XJS is, it's always annoyed me slightly that AUTOart didn't decorate the wheels properly. The black markings between the spokes and on the bolts, give the wheels on the 1:1 a very distinctive look, adding greatly to car's styling overall. AUTOart's unfinished wheels are a bit m'eh, so today I took the time to do what some of you guys have already done.

While I'm happy with the overall look - the decorated wheels lift the car hugely, as I knew they would - I'm not impressed by the quality of my work; especially given that when I made the Hasegawa 1:24th kit years ago, I did a far better job of the wheels than I have done here.

Anyway, before and after pics are here. If you own the coupe or 'vert XJS, this is one mod IMHO you should do to complete what is a lovely diecast. Just do it better than I did :)

1/18 Reventlow Scarab (with some improvements)

I think that the Reventlow 1958 Scarabs were some of the most beautiful (and successful) sports racers ever and I've wanted a model of one of them for years. I was delighted when Replicarz recently decided to do one (actually three different versions) in 1/18 scale.
Like many limited volume models now-a-days, this one is done in resin but with an open engine compartment, and that engine compartment was the only serious disappointment with this beautiful model since the motor looks absurdly disproportionate and bland. It's supposed to be a Hilborn injected small-block Chevy but Replicarz' version of the motor is overly simplified (considering the price) and the Corvette valve covers are unfortunately about the size of those of a Chrysler Hemi. The model's engine hood is supplied as a loose separate part.
I decided that, since this is the only Scarab game in town, I would modify mine to be more detailed and proportioned, as well as front-hinging the engine hood.
I also decided to paint the mag wheels to be a bit more representative of clean magnesium (a slightly more grey-silver with a touch of yellow/gold) rather than Replicarz' plain silver. I then chose to use some more accurate knock-off spinners from the surplus parts tree of a GMP 1/18 Hot Rod kit.
The Replicarz Scarab version that I chose is the one bought and raced successfully up until 1963 by Harry Heuer (driven also by many other successful drivers, including Augie Pabst for its last win in 1963) and sponsored by the Peter Hand Brewing Company.

1:18 Autoart Saleen S281 Supercharged + Extreme

Some quick shots of two of my most favourite models.

I've had the red one (Extreme) for years. I only recently bought the orange (Supercharged) recently.

Differences are minimal: quarter window trim, engine details, wheels and the Extreme has front splitter/rear diffuser kit.

I don't like the oversized 21'' wheels on the Supercharged. I might have to change that. In fact, I'm planning to convert it into a H281 (Heritage) or close to it, using parts from a Saleen Parnelli Jones that suffered a tampo removal "accident". I only need to source out the side stripes.

It will hopefully look close to this:

I have most of my Stangs very close to me on my desk. I'd be very happy with any of them in 1:1 on my driveway, actually.

1:18 Ducati 1199 Superleggera (Maisto finetuned)

Hi all,
Here is a cheap Maisto Ducati 1199 Superleggera my way: I repainted some parts, especially the rims make a huge difference, but also added some details. I plan to use them beside my Ferrari models for the pics, here are some shots without the car models just for fun when I took it outdoors to take some pics just for fun. Here is the result, I hope you like it:

2019 Lincoln Navigator (Dealer Edition).. by KengFai

Well, last year we were introduced into the world of modern Lincolns in 1/18th scale with the Chinese Dealer Edition release of the New 2018 Lincoln Continental Luxury sedan. Fast forward to early 2019 and we again have the pleasure of finally getting a model of  a modern Lincoln....but this time, it's the current generation Lincoln Navigator Luxury SUV(In SWB Form), which is still MASSIVE!

So, I had a feeling that this one was coming, especially because in late 2017 Lincoln started pushing their products in China. There is even a 1/18th Aviator, but that model had some technical issues, so most dealers in China won't carry it on Ebay at least.

If you ever have an intruder in your home, pick this thing up and bash them once over the head and they will be out until the cops arrive. It's that large and heavy, and this is only the short wheelbase variation!  So, I am thrilled that the Chinese like large American vehicles (and everything else roadworthy sold there). It's nice that Lincoln took the time & effort to have KenFai(I believe that's who my dealer told me made it) construct such an AMAZINGLY detailed and highly functional diecast.

This model is made of multi-material metals as well as multi-piece diecast chassis & frame. The model is also sporting a full size spare tire, and separate fuel tank underneath. Upfront the massive and excellently detailed photo-etched perforated metal grill and chrome surround really stands out. Also, when you move around to the side of the model, you will find chrome plated folding side mirrors. Look down lower to find functioning swing out side steps, like the 1/1, to help people to enter this tall SUV.

Speaking of functions, as usual per Chinese dealer edition models, this one features realistic looking blue-grey leather like sliding, folding seats and compartments  that one would need to store items, as well as highly detailed dashboard and controls/vents throughout the entire interior like the 1/1 features. The model comes with both a highly detail front & rear working suspension, fully detailed motor and drive-train(No fake out motor plates here on this one, it's all a whole motor there).  All exterior & interior chrome trim pieces throughout the model as well as photo-etched badging is present. Nicely finished dual painted multi-spoked signature spiral wheels(tire sidewalls are plain) and flawless light blue paint round out the exterior appearance on this show stopper of a model.

We really have to give it to Lincoln(Ford) for thinking enough of using promotionals like this for bringing in new and keeping old customers in China. Now, only if they would start selling extremely well detailed diecast replicas in the large scale of 1/18th outside of China as well(I think that more than a few N.Americans would like to have models of the cars parked in their garages too).
By the comments of my friends online, many folks in other countries would also be thrilled to get these models as well. Now, the elephant in the room is the high price tag found on ebay or other secondary sites(versus through Lincoln/Ford China distribution). I guess we could always think of the $250 USD asking price as kind of a deal compared to AUTOart. If they were currently making new models of the 1/18th New Navigator today(As they had done in the late 90s), it would've probably cost more than this one and have less working features or detail, as well as being mostly plastic. I guess, when one looks at it from that perspective, this metal dealer edition's asking price seems kinda' fair. Besides, Lincoln was kind enough to give a wooden base with this model (as with all of their current 1/18th scale Lincoln promos). So, if one purchases a 1/18th Lincoln model, he/she would be able to display it as a conversation piece to show friends, family or work associates a miniature of their 1/1 off waiting to carry them from point A to point B. All one has to do is buy a glass or acrylic cover to seal it off from dust and stick their model on a desk or shelf.

Final thoughts on this posting, this trend of SUVs becoming so normalized these days bugs me a bit. I just realised that I have purchased more 1/18th SUVs this year than cars :/  Let's hope that people start liking cars again, even if they are autonomous, as it would be a pity if we only got new models of SUVs for current vehicles. That said, I do recommend this model, especially if you have or had the old AUTOart 1st gen Navigator or the Welly 2006 version. I should have been more thoughtful and remembered to pull out both of my older Navigators to do a "family photo shoot". Perhaps in the future. So, until then, please enjoy.

Recommended, due to rarity and subject matter.   IDK Why Some Pics came Out in these vivid colors?... but I will just leave it as is
