The Coronet is looking good though I wish they would have decided to do a steel wheels/hub cap version. Hopefully Acme will do more of these Highway 61 models in stock form.

I think our experience is that ACME will milk any mold beyond the point of market rejection.

^^^That's cool.  They REALLY need to fix that 67/68 front end though.  My goodness.  I'm missing the Street Fighter series too

They took the original car and did some Land Speed Record runs with it.

Smokey made substantial modifications to it, I doubt ACME made any to the original GMP mold.

Okay, so maybe they made some changes.

The grill is definitely different, and it has a front spoiler, and blue-stripe Goodyear's.

Also looks lower in the front, but that could be perspective.

I sold my first generation Smokey Camaro when I culled my collection down to just '69 or newer Trans Am-type cars.

Won't add this one, either.

Got mine on pre-order; just waiting to count the days after my credit card gets hit.

Level of detail looks close to early Exoto.

Going to display nicely next to my BBR European University 512BB LM.

the bad thing that I see, is how badly the bonnet is closed and the two doors, I hope that this badly closed, and that it is not a manufacturing defect

400 euros for that !? :dunno:  No way.

The overall quality look like a 15 years old GMP ( Mclaren M8 or T70 ), the panel gaps, the molding lines on the exhausts or the plastic oil / fuel lines around the engine....

and my favorite option : the monster truck stance ! check the difference with the 100 euros CMR resin version

How were they able to turn out a production version of the model that's worse than the painted sample? I mean that one had proper shutlines and an ok ride height... I also see that, for some reason, it's already available at Carmodel, here where I saw the pictures as they don't display for me in this topic... My hope is that the shutlines are the way they are because the lids aren't properly pushed into place but I've got no real hopes for the ride height to be honest...

Also, here's the painted sample for everyone who wishes to compare again > sample

I guess I am going to have to step out on a limb and be a realist.  If we, as collectors, wish to have certain iconic liveried models in our collections, then we are going to be held prisoner to the manufacturer who acquires the rights to said model.  Having collected since the mid-90's, I have seen quality wax and wane between and among manufacturers.

During certain periods of time, one manufacturer may have produced the premier example of their craft, only to fade over time.  Others come to take their place, but each has their faults.

Now we have the debate between diecast and resin, sealed versus opening features.  Thus is the market, thus is the inventory from which we must make our decisions.

For me, I have an allegiance toward liveries and the memories they create.  Unfortunately, that means that I must make that decision in spite of a potential quality issue, or a pricing one.

As noted above, I have one of these on pre-order and look forward to receiving it, and displaying it with pride.

However, do not cast me as an apologist for ACME/GMP.  I have been critical of them in the past, and will continue to be critical of them in the future.  They produce a number of lines which are consistent with my collection theme.

Thanks!

It seems to look better in these pictures, shutlines especially... So, is the model out now? Or does he have a pre-production model? As you can see above, Carmodel. It seems to have it now which confuses me... I'm asking because deep down I still hope that what they're showing is another sample and at least the finished product has a... normal ride height :-/

Wilbo is a friend of mine from Vancouver, BC, and has written about and reviewed various models of the late Diecast Magazine.  This is quoted from a thread at Scale18:

‘William, just looked at their site and saw the pics. Looks like they did not sit the front cover on well so that has some height affect. Rear looks like it needs to be cycled up and down a bit to settle the suspension. All of the ones we have gotten here sit better. I know they do not sit as low as the actual car as that was a heavily modified version. But cycling the suspension will help get it settled down.

Thanks,
Ben Greene’

Thanks for the info.  I never knew that was done but that makes me even more of a fan.  If I ever was able to buy a 68 Camaro, I'd definitely do some form of nod to the Smokey Camaro.  I think I'll be adding this as soon as it's available.  This new release will also allow me to modify that year with the RS package.

The Javelin ('71 I think) looks like an all new effort, rather than a modified road car - as is the case with various Mustangs.
