Hey guys, I see a lot of people seem to add small leather straps and buckles to their models (usually classic cars) that look like leather bonnet straps etc.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to locate some? As when I eBay 1:18 leather straps or the like I just get watch straps.

Thanks in advance,

When i was building my 1/12 Bentley Blower i looked for some advice on how to make Buckles and there was a few guys who made them out of bent pins, shaped in a letter G with small pliers .Give it a go to see if that works for you,i don't know if the wire is too thick for 1/18 but if it is maybe you can find slightly thinner wire to bend round into a Buckle, hope it helps. :occasion14:P.S. I have Green thin Real Leather what i covered the Blower with left over if that helps, you just have to paint the Leather your colour(Easy to do),i can post strips to you if that also helps.Let me know if i can help.

There are plenty photo etched kits for sale with all sorts of buckles, mainly for racing harnesses but possibly also usable for leather straps. I've seen bonnet locking pins as well in photo etch. In the past I used cigarette paper to make seat belts, probably will use it as well for my Zonda leather straps (or make decals that imitate the straps). Making straps from real leather will cause scaling issues. You need thin material, if a real leather strap is 5mm thick (gestimate), the 1/18th scale strap must have a thickness of 0.3mm!
