There are many well-informed, experts on this forum so I'll pose this question.

What is the most expensive model car currently out there?

Discount custom built models by professionals; don't count Matchbox, Dinky, etc.; don't include 1:12 and larger

Do include scales from 1:43 to 1:18; do include issue prices; do include auction prices and re-sale prices.

I'm curious and I appreciate any input. Thanks.

(P.S. I tried a search but I couldn't come up with anything substantial. If I missed some thread let me know).

I think the most expensive mass produced model is probably the Exoto D type with a new price of 600 euro?

The highest eBay price for a sold out model is probably the cmc fiat transporter ~900 euro.

I can say the Expto XS series cars and 1 off MR Atelier runs are the most expensive ones to my knowledge.

Have you looked at the prices of some of the Carousel 1 models are going for on eBay. At least here in the US you could be looking at $1000.00 and up.

Thanks. I'm not familiar with the Exoto models but I'm just going to go snoop around on the internet.
The Fiat transporter I don't know about but I'll bet it's a 1950s style one.

Whoa! I forgot all about Carousel models. I was going to get their first issue - the 1911 Indy 500 winning Mormom. Going to start checking this out and also cry.

FX Models, APM and D&G are the top dogs if you are looking for expensive 1/18 models. Their models usually costs three times as much as a BBR 1/18 release.

Everyone thank you for all your input. I'm basically a 1:43 collector but have quite a number of 1:18 models. Like many people mention, my problem is space. 70% of my 1:18s are packed away.
You've given me a starting point to look at 1:18s from a different point (and price) of view.

Well here goes my assessment of all the info provided. Remember this is my personal, subjective viewpoint.
I did quick searches. I'll do more detailed ones as time goes by.
FX models and APM seem to have very little info on line about their models.  D&G and MR do not impress me at all. Basically it's all about supercars. They're intricately detailed but do not excite me. The few APM models that I came across fall into the same category. Overall looking at D&G, MR and APM models becomes a blurr, a boring blurr for me.
I was more interested in Exoto MAINLY because they had more historic models. So historic models perk my interest more. The Carousel 1 models also fall into this category but the emphasis is on Indy 500 which I like but am not passionately concerned with.
And then I stumbled across one of my "holy grails". The 1954 Maserati A6 GCS which was originally made by Rikko. Then it disappeared. Now it's Minichamps at +/-$300US. Now I'm happy and glad I started this thread. Long time ago I gave up searching for this Maserati.

Yeah if Exoto detail (especially their XS line) doesn't get you excited then you're in the wrong hobby haha. Glad you got a new spark of interest in the hobby man!

Exoto's Jaguar D-Type averages $1200 CAD. Some sellers ask for $2400CAD on certain ones.

Minichamps Art Cars ask for well over $1000 CAD (though, those don't usually sell; the seller is kinda crazy). There is that one Indonesian seller who has all his Art Cars marked for over $1000 CAD, and there aren't any buyers. There is one dude selling the Frank Stella for over $2000. I'm guessing someone in their dreams told them to sell high.

Whoever buys the Jeff Koons for anything way beyond $700 ripped themselves hard.

Thanks. It's back to more search and study concerning the XS series. Appreciate it.

If you're looking to invest into Exotos, especially their XS line, I would suggest waiting for their 70% off sales, because those are like every other week now. My D-type cost me $718 shipped, which is much better than any ebay price.

Thank you because when I started to seriously look at the XS series all I could say was OMG!!! OMG!!!
The 1958 Ferrari Dino 246 F1 immediately caught my eye. I sat in that car as a kid at a local car show. It was the last hurrah against rear engine cars and the last battle between front engine cars (Ferrari vs. Vanwall).

So far I'm up to $1150US in my "I wan' it" category - discounts not included.
