McLaren has announced a new hypercar, believed to be codenamed ‘P15’. It’s being touted as an addition to the ‘Ultimate Series’ at the peak of McLaren’s range, which is currently occupied by the sold-out P1, plus the track-only P1 GTR.

Don’t mix this up with the three-seater homage to the McLaren F1 known as the BP23, which Top Gear exclusively drove the seating prototype of earlier this month. The BP23, also a member of the Ultimate Series, is a 106-strong run of hybrid ‘hyper-GTs’, set to be the fastest McLaren road car of all time, but biased to road performance. This new Ultimate Series car, on the other hand, is set up to be ‘McLaren’s most track-concentrated road car yet’.
McLaren says despite the new model’s ‘ultimate track car’ status and a ‘brutal, pure design’, the new machine will indeed be road legal, though McLaren’s usual freakish daily usability has been sacrificed in the name of presumably crackers performance.

It’s been rumoured the car will ditch hybrid power for a purely bi-turbo V8 drivetrain, with power output likely surpassing the P1’s 727bhp on fossil fuels alone. Aerodynamics will also be even more extreme than any Woking product to date. The mind does indeed boggle, readers.
Oh, and yes, of course they’re all already sold out, before you’ve seen the car (besides this faintly Pagani-esque teaser shot), or heard its name. Did you expect anything less?

"Coming Dec 10"

Posted Image

Save the date – wraps set to come off the most extreme road-legal McLaren ever.

At one minute past midnight on December 10 2017 the world will get its first sight of a road-legal track car unlike any we have built before.

At that moment the first photographs will appear online revealing in its entirety the new Ultimate Series – pinnacle of the McLaren range. And here’s a sneak preview to whet your appetite.

The news was confirmed today at the Dubai International Motor Show.

The new car will be the ultimate track-focussed McLaren – so single-minded it sacrifices everyday usability in exchange for creating the most intense circuit-driving experience imaginable.

Described as “the purest expression yet of our ‘form follows function’ philosophy,” the new Ultimate Series will be a highly sought after model, its exclusivity guaranteed by a limited production run. Codenamed P15, its real name will finally be revealed along with the car itself on December 10.

P15 will be the third of 15 new McLaren models or derivatives due by the end of 2022. It will be delivered ahead of a second future Ultimate Series model, codenamed BP23, which aims to be the world’s first hyper-GT.

Positioned above our core Super Series – the pioneering 720S, also brand new this year – the Ultimate Series has previously comprised the McLaren P1™ and McLaren P1™ GTR.

The new Ultimate Series will make its public debut in March 2018 at the Geneva International Motor Show.

I present to you the worlds ugliest Mclaren ever made! Quite a disgrace to carry Senna's name for this car.

Now there's a child only a mother could love...just.

This 'thing' is wrong on so many levels:
- Car isn't worthy of the name
- Front overhang
- Overall shape
- rear wing
- glass door
- Fiero base
- the fact that besides all these points it will be ridiculously quick

Not a Clarkson fan but my suggestion would be to kill it with fire...

It's really, REALLY a shame since McLaren were doing excellent jobs with the P1, 570 and 720.

It looks like some unfinished project that went from the sketch stage straight into production.

Or maybe they didn't even designed it, they just did a quick photo collage out of bits from different cars.

Either way: :hellno:

My oh my... The best driver of all times should not have his name used in vain like this...

Not a single aspect of this hideous car resembles anything remotely related to Ayrton Senna da Silva. :mad2:

McLaren actually showed that thing, is it too late to go back and change it?  :omg:

I'm trying to picture it next to an F1...this is just sad.

Totally agree with you guys. The side view is the worst part of it all in my opinion. So many incoherent lines and they just do not correspond to each other. Look at the front and rear wheel arches. And the Enzo wannabe side intakes (see the comparison below).... Very disappointed in McLaren.

It's like a Chinese copy. It actually makes the Veneno look good, and I never thought I'd say that.

Think it's the wing and the color that make the whole car look ridiculous.
Saw some pics of it in grey and black and it improved instantly.
Someone photoshopped the rear wing from the car, another improvement.

It's still an ugly thing, but McLaren basically chose the worst configuration possible to introduce it :dunno:

I find it funny how much people hate of things like this. The car isn't pretty, but I'm willing to see how it performs and such. I like it from most angles except for that side shot, it looks odd lol.

For real, what's the reason for the windows in the side? They say the whole thing is purpose built for the track, so what do these add?

A lovely view of your knees for the spectators?

Not pretty but since I never liked the LaFerrari until I saw a real one I reserve my judgment until I see the real thing.

It's never meant to look pretty yea?
It does look brutal, in a way.
And weird in terms of proportions.

Surprised with the long overhang up front.
McLarens normally have short compact noses.
More of a Ferrari thing to have a long nose.

The problem, I think, is that there is just too much going on. They tried to cram too many design ideas into one single car.

Who the hell at McLaren signed off on this thing? This is definitely the worst looking supercar to come out in the last few years (actually, trying to think of something else as ugly, nothing comes to mind), ABSOLUTELY hideous. If I was one of the buyers that paid for one of these before it was even finished or debuted, I would be feeling like throwing up wright about now. Oh McLaren, hang your head in shame. :omg: :wtff:

Seriously guys? Am I nuts or something? It looks good from all the angles except that side one IMO. Am I nuts here and should I go build my own island to live on? I'm lost over the level of disgust I see. I must be losing my vision haha

I've said on another car forum - it reminds me of this:

Supposedly to help you hit the apex on turn in.

Personally I think it's to let everyone know how much or a trouser tent you are having!
