Hi guys,

I just got a relatively rare Autoart 996 GT3 MK2, different from the MK1 which is not so popular on eBay. The below first picture is from Modelly, the other two pictures are mine.

Unfortunately mine is missing one of the two windscreen wipers.

I wonder how you would repair this.

- get a wiper from an Autoart 996 GT3 MK1, do they share the same wipers?
- get a wiper from an Autoart 996 GT3 MK2 RS, do they share the same wipers?
- get a wiper from any other Autoart 996 model? Althought I have a 996 GT2, and its wiper seems to be different than this GT3 MK2.
- get a wiper from a non-Autoart 996 model? Bburago, Hotwheels etc. ?

Thanks in advance.

Best,
Frank

Have you checked with AutoArt Spares?

Just had a look at my 996 GT3 mk1, the wipers are different. Surprisingly the wipers are moulded into the scuttle panel whereas on your mk2 they have been upgraded and made seperate. AUTOart spares had a ton of 996/997 spares last time I checked so will be worth a look when they're back online, although you may just have to get something that looks similar and adjust it to suit.

Thanks for checking the MK1.
It seems like only the 996 models with side windows (i.e upgraded 996 models) have separate wipers.

So I guess only the GT3 MK2 and the GT3 RS belong to that category.

Sucks to find missing wipers eh. Same thing happened to me recently my wife helped me to pick up a supposedly MIB autoart MR2 and it turned out to be missing one of the wipers which wasnt apparently in the seller's picture. I ended up pinching a similar looking wiper off an old Land cruiser, shaved the attachment stub so it can fit into the hole of the windscreen wiper attachment hole on the MR2.

Obviously if you want the porsche to be 100% complete then do try to source the same wiper from the same car or the same 911 range. Someone suggested 3rd party photo etched wipers to me last time when i bought a UT 993 with no wipers but i ended up sacrificing a Maisto 993 cabrio instead.

Lovely 996 mk2 by the way. Love it in silver.

Thanks. Yeah, this is my second model with a missing wiper, the other one being the HWE dino, which is even harder to get a spare wiper.
The model itself is not too bad. I mainly got it because the 996 was my childhood 911, also because of Need for Speed Porsche 2000 :)
Also it was less than 50 euro, much lower than the eBay price I think.

I was surprised how low the front end is, I thought the previous owner really misused the model, so I was trying to pull the front wheels away from the arches.... until I saw the stock pictures online :giggle:

You could try the Gate 996. Keep an eye on eBay, they come up cheap sometimes even brand new. Could be worth it buying one just for the wipers.

Thanks! But I'm not sure whether the Gate or UT 996 wipers are molded or separate.

you are right... i just checked my UT 996 and it looks like the wipers are molded in.. On the other hand.... Maisto's 996s are separate piece but u may need to cut it as both wipers are presented as a single piece.

Gate's stuff are pretty awesome actually i happen to have a few they were really ahead of their time even by today's standard I still consider them as king of budget models.

Yeah, both Gate and UT are the predecessors of AUTOart. If I remember correctly the AUTOart Murcielago is largely based on the Gate one.

The Autoart spare part website is available again.

Found this Porsche 911 997 GT2 RS windscreen plus wiper. I don't know whether this is compatible with my 996 GT3 MK2.

Depends how you plan on doing it. I doubt the complete unit will fit although you never know.
Can your wipers pop out? I imagine it'll be easier to swap in both wiper arms.
One thing to note is the Autoart 996's have wipers that fall flat on the windscreen, 997's have an arched shape although this shouldn't make a difference.

Do you think the AUTOart Boxter wiper would fit to my 996 GT3 MK2?

How about the real car wipers? I guess since the Boxter is smaller than the 911, in real life the wipers of the Boxter won't fit to the 996's?

im not sure how big the Boxter is compared to the 911, but i dont think the wipers should be that much smaller. you could also check other 911 models for wipers.
there is wipers on this part: 911 997 GT2 RS White - Windscreen (77963-022)

Thanks Alex. I think the 996 wipers + wiper arms are either flat like the GT3 MK2 or completely molded together not as a separate piece. the 997 wipers have an arch shape, so quite different from the 996.
I'm not sure how the 1:1's are like. I found some real wipers and they say they are suitable for all 996, 997, 986 boxter models....

hmm yes, there is also that.

but i would say whatever you end up with, having a complete set of wipers is better than a incomplete set.
