Time to return to the 1/64 fun scale.

Spark did a nice model of the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, released in many colourful liveries. It seems to be resin and the shape of the body is very sharp and 100% spot on - quite remarkable for this tiny scale. In combination with many micro decals these models have a very realistic appearance - you will see what I'm talking about when you look at the photos...

I decided for the Le Mans liveries and as you can grab these small models for about 10 Euros I took the complete "gang of four" (Porsche works team at 24h of Le Mans 2018). This is another example of the universe of new options offered by the 1/64 scale: Due to requirements w.r.t. budget and (even more important) room for storage I would never have dreamed to do this with 1/18... :nice:

24h of Le Mans 2018 Porsche works team - enjoy the pics:

#91 - 2nd in class LMGTE Pro

#93 - 10th in class LMGTE Pro

#94 - DNF

Just remember that these model are only about 6cm long and can easily be hidden in your fist...

2 additional pictures of my personal favorite livery out of these four:

Having these 4 together in a shooting it would have been a shame to do no group shot:

And here it comes:

The arrangement is inspired by a nice advertising poster by Porsche which you can find in the web. However the scene here is completely synthetic because the I wanted to have a grandstand and famous Dunlop arch together in the picture... :nice:

Cheers David! :occasion14:
I‘m glad you enjoyed it!!! :yahoo:
Indeed it seems that 1/64 scale would deserve a bit more attention here on DX. :icon_scratch:
It has so much to offer - also from from a photographer‘s view. I‘ll keep on trying to demonstrate this in my thread...

I really love to follow all the amazing build threads here on DX. Having tons of respect for the carftsmanship ship of my fellow DXers I very much enjoy to see how their projects evolve step by step.

Working myself only with my camera and Photoshop the idea came to my mind that it might be worth doing something similar with photo processing. I will try to create a typical Le Mans like impression of my 1/64 Porsche 911 RSR (class winner 2018 in retro design "pig" livery). Hope you will join and enjoy this little journey...

For this purpose I first needed to do some new daylight pictures with the right lighting and view angle. This is how the original pictures come directly out of the camera:
Posted Image
As you can see there is dirt/dust on the model - you will never be able to perfectly clean a model before taking pictures. On the driver side of the windscreen you can find the typical rainbow effect which is caused by the plastic material of the screen. More importantly only the front section of the model is sharp while the rear apperars very diffuse, even windscreen and mirror is not sharp.

These problems have to be tackled in the next steps - stay tuned...

And this is how the final result looks like:

Of course you can argue that you still can see in the picture that this is a model and not the real car. And you're right. But please keep in mind that this is a tiny 1/64 model which you could easily hide in your fist...

My smallest diecast so far: 1/64 BMW Isetta by SCHUCO:

Back in the early 80's I started a small 1:64 Schuco collection, I remember they had the exact same wheels no matter what car it was! But some had opening doors and would come in a small stackable acrylic case and a little folding catalogue with photos of the other little models to order.

When I had about 30 of them I kind of lost interest and started trading them up, today I wish I kept them. :gaah:

I feel your pain - probably most of us have nostalgic items that we sorely miss. :yahoo:
Guess that's "the walk of life" and frankly: You can't keep everything (unless you own a warehouse of course)...

As for me with the 1/64 scale models: Currently I do not focus on a special manufacturer or brand or theme.
Just enjoy looking around and picking what ever appeales me...

Usually it takes rather months than weeks until I get a new model in front of my camera and some months to find the time for photo editing.

The next model is an exception in this regard and made these steps in only 2 weeks. Having received the model as generous POTY 2019 prize from Top Marques on Saturday two weeks ago I took the photos already on the next day. The pictures were processed in the meantime with high priority because I didn’t want to let you and the donor wait too long for the results.

And here comes the Rallye Monte Carlo winner from 2002 (driven by Tommy Mäkinen) - Subaru Impreza S7 555 WRT by Top Marques.

Enjoy the POTY 2019 prize:

Great shots on the Subbie! Your photos are super crisp and clean. Ever details is on display. For Top Marques to hand this over to someone that will show all the details, good and bad, shows the confidence they have in their model, and in the community. Great for them to put up such a prize. Thanks for sharing.

I‘m glad you like the pictures!!
@preisman: Indeed, a sharp lens unveils even the smallest details.
Unfortunately the smallest dust particles too - causing considerable effort to „clean“ the model afterwards as part of the photo editing... :gaah:
