My next model is the Ferrari F40.

I can't tell you exactly why but like many of you I am a big fan of the F40. This car wasn't very successful on the race track and there have been Ferraris with more elegant body shape. But the F40 has a special kind of magic that not many other cars have and it really touches a chord.

Sadly (and hard to understand) model manufacturers like BBR, CMC etc. never provided us collectors with a high end diecast in 1/18 scale. I'm sure a high quality F40 (let's say by BBR) would sell like hell but for whatever reason we get offered only resin - good looking but sealed. :gaah: So I sidestepped to 1/64 scale. :nice:

When I  saw the 1/64 F40 by Tomica (Limted Vintage NE series) for the very first time I immediately fell in love. Really amazing what Tomica did with the F40: It is tiny, it is diecast, it has a 100% sharp body and it is OPENING: At least front hood as well as engine hood can be opened while the doors are sealed. Yes, it is expensive (at least for a 1/64) but it is worth every cent IMO and it will help me waiting for my collector's dream - a high end 1/18 diecast...

Enjoy te pics:

Not a single comment on this splendid tiny model by Tomica seems to indicate that here on DX 1/64 scale still does not get the appreciation it deserves.
Or maybe my pictures are not able to do justice to this little gem?
Anyway - I won't give up trying to convince you how enjoyable this 1/64 universe is... :yahoo:

Meanwhile the visitors of my thread are used to switch between 1/64 and 1/18 and you will not be surprised that with my next model we switch back to 1/18 scale again.

No need to spend much words about the car: Famous Porsche 917K, winner of the 24h of Le Mans 1970.
If you ask me about my top 5 race cars ever  - the 917K would definetely be part of this ranking.
It's a decent model by AUTOart and I love it simply because I love the 917K.

Enjoy the pics:

Thanks you so much for your kind words - I am sooo glad to see that at least someone here on DX shares my enthusiasm for these tiny gems!! :yahoo:
Big congrats - you have an impressing TLV/N collection!! So nice to see them all together!! :eusa_clap:
Do you have a personal favorite TLVN?

For the time being the F40 is my only Tomica. All TLVN are high end 1/64 and very nice to see. Unfortunately they are quite expensive too. :gaah:
What I have seen from pictures in the web it seems that the F40 is outstanding even amongst the TLVN and I was not able to resist. :nice:

Thanks for hint w.r.t. to the Daytona - I wasn't aware that Tomica is going to release this one.
First pictures look quite promissing. Usually I do not preorder but perfer to wait and see pictures of the real thing.
Will be very interesting to compare the TLVN Daytona with the Kyosho...

At the very least I have to give praise to manufacturers that manage to squeeze that amount of detail, plus opening parts into such small scale diecasts!

Oh, and fantastic photos as usual! I am now folowing this thread so I won't miss the updates! :eusa_clap: :drool5:

You're Welcome Dirk!! :nice:  i'm really happy that someone else here is serious about 1/64ths.

As far as a favorite TLVN, I'd have to say the 83-85 Toyota Crowns, the Y31 Nissan Cedric and Gloria Hardtops..and the Toyota Mark IIs GX81 series.  :drool5:  I LOVE JDM sedans, but I don't really have a clear favorite!
By all of the previous TLV & TLVN Ferrari releases, the Daytonas should be a really nice edition to your collection :occasion14:

I will continue with 1/64 - I promise!
Next models to be presented here will be by Hot Wheels.
W.r.t. to TLVN I have to say that the 512BBi is really tempting me  but I'm also looking very much forward to see the Daytona...

Back to the 1/18 scale:
When I did the photo shooting with my 917K the Stig became aware of what’s going on and immediately claimed to become part of the show:

The lighting on your photos is amazing, colors are so well balanced, all the little details on the model are perfectly highlighted! :drool5:

I had that exact Porsche 917 in my hands a couple of times, never really took it home. Now that I've rekindled my interest for racers, I might start hunting for one.

Many 1/18 figures appear artificial/unrealistic when you have a closer look.
The Stig however is really well done IMO and can add realism to the scenery...

Thank you so much for your compliments, cwbs!!! :occasion14:
For me the lighting in most cases is a kind of „hit & miss“ process. I have an idea in mind how the picture should look like and try something. In case I‘m not satisfied with the result I try something else. And not everything needs to be achieved with the camera - photo editing can contribute a lot to lighting as well as balance of colors...

As for the model: The 917K looks great in Martini as well as in Gulf colors.
But my personal favourite clearly is the Le Mans winning Porsche Salzburg livery in red with these unique pattern of white stripes.
So if you have the chance to grab one for an acceptable price do not hesitate... :yahoo:

Wanted to try something new and bought a tiny 1/64 diorama (made of cement). Good investment - seems to work pretty well. :nice:

Here are just 2 very quick test shots:
