Hi! So this is a remake of the one found here: https://www.diecastx...-backgrounddio/

Its not because I was unhappy with it or anything, I just discovered that cork did not like staying erect over time (even with styrene brick walls glued to it), it curved more and more as the months passed, almost like wet paper, lol. Lesson learned!

Posted Image
The new, stronger wall is at the same place as the old one, and the sidewalk I just made from rectangular styrene rods + styrene sheets and the covered in acrylic concrete. The messy looking zebra crossing is done this way because of lessons learned, hehe. As some may remember I have tried a few ways to paint stripes and such on heavily textured surfaces (like this roof tile-turned-tarmac) and it always leads to epic paint bleed since its very hard to get the masking tape to seal properly. So now I do it by using masking tape - in this case cut to 11 mm thickness - and then using the thickest acrylic paint there is (Games Workshop) and painting top down with a brush to get an outline, and then filling it in later.

Posted Image
Masking tape removed it looks like this. Not much cleanup needed!

Sidewalk

Posted Image
The main attraction is of course this fully functioning light pole thingy (dont know the english word for these) from Tiny HK. Lights and sound, its such a cool toy.

Posted Image
The wires are routed through the hollow sidewalk.

Posted Image
I am using some other cool Tiny HK bits, like this trash can with a photoetched ash tray cover ...

Posted Image
And this letter box.. Gotta say, these Tiny Hong Kong things are pretty pricy, but the quality is high. American Diorama stuff costs pretty much the same and looks like rubbish, so I guess maybe okay priced then.

Posted Image
Zebra crossing coloured in, amking sure to dry brush some areas so the coverage is not new looking. Gonna add some washes too, but I am pretty happy with this so far.

Dont remember how to embed here, but there is a video of the effects.

Thanks, looney! But I took it outside for some pics yesterday and its pretty much useless, lol. To restrictive, too small, and I dont like the wall either. So it will be demolished. Lets try again!

This thread has inspired me to try build my own diorama.   But with a twist.

I have a horizontal bertby in my study and think it would make a great place to put a scene, however I'm not that creative.

Any suggestions of what I could put in here? My brain only can think of a road with parallel parking and a wall.

looney, you could do a lot with that space, depending on your tastes and goals. A few quick ideas that came up to me:

- Like you said, a sidewalk and parallel parking
- A showcase display, for example cars at a car show, with fancy floors, lights
- A diorama showing cars racing through a tunnel
- Some small, underground-style shop
- Car production line, but it will require several similar models being dismantled...
- Small scale exotic dealership
- Using a photo-wallpaper with a nice view and a viewpoint stop
- Mimicking a rally-stage with a car in the "air" from a small jump
I'll be back
