Hello folks,

I've been posting really intermittently for the past 8 months. I think 2019 will be my last year of buying models.  I haven't bought anything since my trip to Hong Kong earlier this year.  I've put my discretionary spending into my hi-fi stereo system and am getting much more emotional fulfillment from it than model cars.  I'm not selling my collection but consider it more like being in stasis for the foreseeable future. I will still lurk the forums.

Am in the same situation as you Will! The current 1:18 hobby is very healthy from a diversity perspective, with new manufacturers such as CMR and relative newcomes GT Spirit pumping out affordable stuff, and stalwards Minichamps, AUTOart, and CMC doing what they've always done EXCEPT at greatly increased prices and in nearly every case significant reduction in quality. CMC now ask €500 for their new 1000 parts count models, while the previous gen (up to Ferrari 250 GTO) had 1500+ parts for almost half the price. AUTOart have kicked true diecast models to the kerb, instead putting out ABS plastic models which in no way, shape, or form should be set at the high MSRP they are. As for Minichamps, OK quality, but a move to sealed diecasts has further worsened their reputation. They can never be called premium manufacturers, that's for sure.

So with all this decline in the quality and lack of ultra-detailed new toolings from CMC I am content with the models I have and saving money by merely seeing the CMC announcements and not buying any  :danke:

I also expect 2020 to be far less dynamic for my model buying as I simply already have the vast majority of the models I want. I will still enjoy the occasional heavy discount probably and just watching on the forums what everyone else is getting.

Another possibility is do delve into modifying, but I don't think I have the patience and skills to do a proper job. Lurking or just congratulating others will be the way to go, lol.
I'll be back

That's a shame Will, don't be a stranger though.

I think next year even I will be buying less, I've nailed most of my grails and there haven't been many lately for me to buy.

F**k you Photobucket.

I know how you guys all feel! I'm now working away from home more than I ever have before and can already see I've been spending less time on forums, model shops etc.....there is still a list of models I want to get and I never ever pay full EU RRP on stuff like AUTOart models anyway - I'll usually buy 2 or 3 at a time from abroad when there's a sale on.

you dont have to buy models all the time to be here, and you can always stop by when you want. i havent bought a single model this year, and have started tinkering with 1:10 RC cars again.

Come back to us Will, come back to us. Hell you guys let me back in even when I went dormant for a year plus......still sort of dormant but its always a good feeling to come back to the fold. Its okay to play elsewhere just don't forget about the feelings 1:18 brings to the table.

Thanks, guys. Like I am doing right now, I will check in once in a while and do a fly-by. I am content staring at the old Autoart Signatures and BBR resins that I have.
