The point of this build is to actually try this awesome color on an E46 coupe and build it the same way as i'm builing my real E46 coupe. Which includes:

- Atlantis Blue OEM paint
- Carbon fiber roof
- Cinnamon leather interior
- 5 Spoke wheels (not decided on the wheels yet :D)

So this model started of as a pretty boring Kyosho E46 M3 with some paint marks on the hood and doors.
Posted ImageDSC_0340 (Custom)

Took it apart and immediately started to paint the seats and door trim in the new cinnamon color.

I've made another bimmer in Atlantis blue already and i had to see how the color looks compared to the flashy atlantis blue.. Gotta say i was pleasantly surprised it looks this good!

Posted ImageDSC_0467 (Custom)
I couldn't wait so i painted the body, doors, hood and trunk already. For those of you who don't know me, i work with real automotive paint with a proper spray gun to get the best, orange peel free result possible.
I couldn't do the clear coat yet because i had to wait for the basecoat to dry so i can paint the engine bay and roof black before applying clear coat.

I'm in love! So far i've done a lot of things already but there's a long way to go:

Black out engine bay
black out the roof
Correct errors on the seats
Blackout seatbelts on the seats
Clear coat
polishing
Sorting wheels
And everything else i forgot :D

Great start and looking for more news. Can you give more details about the painting, coats etc... what do you use and some tips, and which tools do you use? I will start my first painting adventure soon, but a bit afraid to make it worst. Sure it will be very helpfull.

Sure! I'm using these usually:

Honestly it's going to take some time to get into painting like this. you'll need to build a paint booth so you won't get too much dust in your paint. (you will always get some dust but you can buff that out easily).

I used to strip the whole body from paint but i found that if you get colors which don't need a specific base coat to get to that color you can just paint over the original paint after sanding. these are my basic steps:

Sand the panels with 500grit dry or 1000grit wetsand
Obviously cleaning
paint a thin but covering first coat
wait till matte (approx. 5-10min)
paint 2nd coat covering but not too thick
wait till matte (7-10min)
paint 3rd coat to get the desired color.
wait at least 10min for the coats to dry.

clean if you notice dust particles
Apply 1st layer of clear. make sure you get a covering layer, so not a super light coat! The reflection should be like a mirror, but be careful as you will overdo it very very easily!
wait for at least 5 to 8 minutes
Apply 2nd layer of clear, just make sure you get a covering coat in but be easy on this one, it's just to build up some paint you you've got some meat to polish afterwards.

after 2-5 days you can start polishing.
THIS IS ALL WETSAND:
sand 1200 (where dust particles are)
sand 1500
Sand 2000
Sand 3000
Polish compound
Polish Finish
Apply wax/ quick detailer.
Done!

Don't apply a super thin 1st layer of clear as that paint will not flow, you'll get orange peel.

If all went well you'll get this:

Thanks for the replies guys!

Went along and masked the body for the black roof and engine bay.

While that was drying i had some time to put new logos on the hood and trunk. I went for Paragon BMW M4 3d logos as i think they look amazing. Had to sand the back down to make it fit though. I wanted the logos to be under the clear coat.

Had some time thinking about what wheels to put on this model..

What wheels do you like the most?

1. Alpina classics

2. BBS RSII

Amazing colour and paintwork! Another vote for TE37's, although the ADV.005 look good too.

Yeah, i actually like "Hyper black" a lot. I have no idea yet how to get this color but it's neither silver nor gunmetal:

Actually yes! As the roof og my own E46 will be real carbon fiber i'll make the roof and diffuser carbon fiber aswell.

Also i've painted my interior trim white with spash paint in M colors on my car. So i'll give it a try to do that on the model aswell. I'm afraid it'll be impossible but hey i'll try haha.

Posted ImagePSX_20200110_160239

Also i'll have to try and black out the exterior window trim and the holes for the foglights in the front bumper.

Clear coat done! Unfortunately there's some dust in the clear which i'll have to sand out before polishing, but that's no problem.

The black Miura is the standard GT Spirit Miura LB Performance.

Actually the white Z8 was one of my "test" models to get into painting. The wheels are a bit.. wrong, but Alpinweiss suits the body very well!

It looks really good in white with the red interior....some Alpina Dynamics wheels will probably improve a lot.

Update:

Painted some details in black.

I wanted to give the car the " Shadowline" option:

Posted ImageDSC_0115

It needs some fine work but the paint will have to dry first,

Also the spoiler lip on my 1:1 car is black, so:

Looks very nice. A classic spec for the E46 :drool5: The color reminds me of the one I did my Welly X5 with, but it's better done than mine :10:

Finally, an update!

As i'm trying to remake my 1:1 E46 ( Which will get a respray in Atlantis blue) I wanted to remake my own custom painted interior trim with paint splash in M colors. On my 1:1 i painted it alpinweiss and splashed the paint on and finished it with clear.

Posted ImageDSC_0197

So i tried to paint the trim like this aswell on the model:

(Before)
Posted ImageDSC_0184

(White layer)
Posted ImageDSC_0185

Blue first :D
Posted ImageDSC_0187

Then the darker blue and red:D

Posted ImageDSC_0188
Posted ImageDSC_0192

Painted with a 0,10mm brush and still wasn't small enough to get the exact look, but i'm happy anyways.

What do you think?
