Just a quick photoshoot of the 1:18 Mercedes-Benz 230E by KK. So this is a sealed diecast model. But I have a weakness when it comes to W123's so I had to buy this one at 1/2 the price of Otto's W123
Part of the reason I got THIS version is that this would be my dream W123 configuration if I ever get one on real life: White, metal-hubcaps, sunroof, and pre-facelift headlights :drool5:
The bests thing about this model is the proportion is absolutely perfect! And they don't use the flimsy side windows like Otto / GTS. Thank goodness!!

That being said, there are a few things I had to address when I receive this model. So the first thing I did was to correct the lazy cambers of the front wheels. Sorry I didn't take the 'before' pictures. But it was an easy fix by wedging a small washer between the spring and the spindle:

I also re-print the dash cluster as the original one from KK is very inaccurate.

Here are some pf the photos I took today. I also sneaked in Revell's W123 for a quick comparo shots:

that's really sweet! Love how this one has the seat belts as well.

It's curious to see that given that 99.9% of 1:1 Mercs are autos, 99.9% of 1:18 Mercs are manuals :-)

I have Norev's 1:18 W123 on order in white, too; should be here at the end of the month. It's post-face lift though. One problem I have spotted from the pics of Norev's W123 and S123, is that the rear track is too wide; its rear wheels, like yours, should be inset a bit.

Great pics mate :)

Sweeeeeet!!!
I love the W123 too! My parents used to drive exactly this white car for almost 2 decades (the only difference we’re alloy rims).
Great car, great pics!!! :10:
Thanks for sharing, Stefanus!!

Please post pics on the Norev W123! I would love to see it :drool5:
Should be sweet with the full opening.

Glad you enjoyed them, thank you :occasion14:
I also grew up with a 1983 200 W123. Loved that car!!!

Yep, will post pics when it turns up. :-) Hopefully it'll be here at the end of the month.

I'm a bit of a W123 fan boy, too; my folks had a S123 (a 280TE) as our family bus. We did quite a few trips in it to see our family in Italy in calm air conditioned comfort when I was a kid.

What I liked about that car was that it was so serene, upright and serious when it was being driven normally. It had a quiet dignity. But my gosh, play with the autobox, and that stately car would hunch down, pick up its chrome roof rails and rocket effortlessly down the road, howling away in manner that was so not in keeping with its oh-so-elegant looks and normally calm manner. A classic example of 'speaks softly, but carries a big stick'.

Loved, loved, loved our 280TE. :-)

Agreed!
What I loved the most about our old W123 is how comfy and serene that car was. We went from a 1984 Honda Accord to the W123 and boy that was a HUGE upgrade in refinement and ride!

Congrats Stefanus!!! :eusa_clap:
It must be amazing to have your ideal spec reduced down to 1/18th scale :nice:
I wonder WHY is it with KK-Scale that we collectors often have to adjust the suspension on their products? :dunno: ..nevertheless, good job! :yahoo:
So are you buying the Norev versions as well? I'm waiting on those and the R129 especially!! :occasion14:

As of the upcoming Norev version, I would add one if the price is right. Maybe the blue one.
One of KK's attraction to me is the use of the pre-facelift headlights.

I would like to see Norev doing that with theirs as well..but, it could be a interesting project "IF" the cars match shape wise with the light housing! :nice:

That is one sweet looking Merc in white. I do like the headlight details. Is that the US or Euro Spec?

This looks like the Euro spec as the USDM cars has the thicker bumpers. The older Euro spec uses the round headlights too. But actually the Euro spec pre-facelift should have the headlights all encased with glass. The exposed sealed beam units (like the ones in the KK) looks more like USDM's cars.

thanks for the info mate. I am tempted to have this one as i wont mind having some varieties of the W123 series. So far i have both Revell one and the Norev Coupe but the upcoming full opening Norev one is one mighty contender for my $$ LOL.

I think the US cars had orange secondary lights at the front.
Easily achieved with a hobby paint brush and some Tamiya X26 clear orange paint.

Not sure about the extra orange marker.
I think the difference between USDM vs Euro round headlights are the glass enclosure.

Unless you meant the foglights then yes a lot of the USDM cars came with these yellow fogs.
