UPDATE 12/11/2020

Back onto carbon fiber decals today. The following has taken me all day, around 7 hours. Most of it came out ok, I did have to do a couple of bits twice, but overall once it is cleared it should be ok. I have finished all the body and parts in both bronze and black decals, but since I have gone this far, I think now I have to do both door jams in black carbon too. But I have had enough for today so I will do the door jams tomorrow. Damn this is hard work. More to come.

UPDATE 13/11/2020

More carbon work this morning applying many pieces to make up the sills and all around the base of the B pillar and around the rest of the sides that will be visible when the model is complete
Posted Image
Engine piece sitting in place as is the standard carbon (but 2K clear coated) luggage boxes, to check that every bit you see has carbon on it.
Posted Image
Other side
Posted Image
Gold decal stripe added to the front of the model. Just sat the wiper piece in place to have a look.
Posted Image
Gold decal stripe added to the bottom edge of the side skirt and the front edge of the air scoop
Posted Image
I then masked up and painted the gold band on the front of the roof scoop
Posted Image
That is everything ready to clear coat after I let this all dry for a few days. Really looking forward to seeing all this time consuming work under clear, hopefully it looks good and hides some of my faults and patches. More to come. Thanks for looking. Cheers

UPDATE 17/11/2020

Well today's post was supposed to be a good one. Disaster!!! I clear coated the carbon body and parts today and the bronze carbon had some sort of reaction and did not come out well at all, losing color in places and the bronze color bleeding throughout. All the black carbon is fine and I cleared the body and parts with the same 2K clear I always use, same spraying method and the fact that all the black carbon is fine, but all the bronze carbon is shit tells me there is something wrong with the ink or print of the bronze carbon. The bronze carbon and black carbon is all Scale Motorsports brand, so this should not have happened. Words cannot describe how I feel right now after 2 full days of applying carbon fiber decals and for this to happen is just gut wrenching.

Cringe when you look at all the following pictures.  I guess this build is now dead!

I have been in your position with cf decals and it feels horrible. Don't give up, Winners are those who insist! Maybe you should email the decal maker too...

I don't want to look at it for a few days, then I will make a decision on which way to go

I would still like to finish the build as I have put a lot of work already into the rest of the model. Just need to reset

Thanks, I would still like to have the finished model in my collection. I have email Scale Motorsports and sent them pictures, I await their response.

Oooft. I've had this happen to me but with tamiya clear. I worked around it by doing mist layers like 6 times with 30 mins in between before going full wet. Seemed to work okay. May have been a different reason to yours though. You applied the regular carbon before the bronze right? You think maybe it wasn't fully dried/cured? This is my nightmare

If something like this happened to me I would probably need a longer break with this mod and store the parts away for some time... :dizzy:

I agree Vulpex.

I have a Murcielago project that had a minor setback about 3 years ago and I got the $#!ts with it so just put it in a box annoyed with it. Maybe I'll get back to it in a year or so lol.

Yeah it was fully dry, but the fact that the black carbon is ok and the bronze had this reaction tells me there is a problem with that batch of bronze. I sent an email to Scale Motorsports, waiting for a reply

Yeah, I am working on the Diablo at the moment to take a break from this model. Pity though to be out of the competition with this build

Exactly, a break from this and hopefully Scale Motoersports will at least send me some new decals for free to finish the build

I will the second time around, I will probably do the front bumper first and clear it to see how it goes.

I've just had a look at this topic from the very start. I was genuinely excited to see all the new updates and how the build progressed, especially because I have a GT Autos Pagani Huayra too, only mine is white. As I never gave modifications a chance before, I cannot relate to what you must be feeling now, but I am really sorry it didn't work out the way you wanted. Sorry Rob.

If you are interested in my 1/18 collection, feel free to click the link below
