It's time to start this project.

Model disassembled, paint stripped, rear part of the body removed with the Dremel ( because the new engine is a little bit bigger than the original BMW 0,3 L )
Putty here and there and the chassis is already in progress.

Thank you guys.

I try to work at least 4 hours everyday on this project.... stuck at home and nothing better to do than this and working on a capricious 1/1 race car....

Anyway, i'm still working on the body, removing the manufacturing defects,... the molding lines inside and outside. ( if the chassis looks good i could display the model with and without the body ) It's almost ready for the first coat of primer.

Big progress on the tubular chassis ( i'm waiting for some evergreen tubes to finish it and it should be ready for the primer paint ) The next step is to build 2 or 3 supports for the rear wing and the parachute and finish the rear axle in metal.

Teasing pics with the chassis.... as you can see the model will be a little bit longer than the original

Back to work on this model.  Next week i will finish the chassis and i will build the rear wheels in aluminium.

2 coats of primer on the body, still need a little bit of putty here and there before paint...

More work on the engine... paint in progress. Block, oil pan, rocker covers in candy apple red. Cylinder heads and small parts in candy green. ( the big green part is for another model )
For each part : 2 coats of primer, wetsand with 600 paper, 2 coats of metallic chrome silver, 2 coats of candy red or candy green, and a lot of clear coat  :nice:

Thank you. Yes, it's a lot of work to build 75% of the model from scratch, even if it looks small it's my biggest project so far. :nice:

First coat of primer on the chassis and first pictures with the body on it.  Like the body, the chassis still need a little bit of putty here and there.
I wanted to build something really strong. The tubular chassis is glued to the original interior and held in place by 4 M3 X8mm bolts hidden behind the driver seat.

:nice:

Second coat of primer on the body.... and the engine is almost ready. The next goal is to build the distributor with the ignition cables and the air intake on the top of the blower.

I had this very nice pair of top fuel dragster exhaust in metal, after some modifications and a polishing with the Dremel they are perfect for this build.
The blower belt in rubber has been sanded with a 600 sandpaper for a more realistic look.

Painted engine and full metal rear axle inside the chassis for the first time, now it looks serious :drool5:
Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

With the body.... the original design is perfect for the new exhaust.
Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Time to start the new rear wheels, first i cut some aluminium cylinders in a 1 meter round bar.  The next step will be to play with the lathe.

You know it's gonna be serious when the engine is half the size of the body :omg:

The rear wheels in aluminium are finished. Happy with the result.  The front wheels i wanted to use are too big.... i will have to find a new set, maybe in 1/24 scale. around 27-28 mm in diameter

Rear wheels after a few hours with the lathe.

Finally on the floor, the exhaust is almost touching the ground but the nose will be a little bit higher with the wheels.  It should have a nice rake angle if my plans are correct.

Thanks :nice:

I had this idea for a long time. I wanted to use the biggest engine in the smallest car possible.
A few weeks ago, i discovered a similar project built in 1/1 for Hotwheels. But their version is not realistic, only 1 rear wheel with a low profil tire is ridiculous for this power.

My project is a mix of vintage dragster inspiration ( top fuel and funny cars ). Something realistic that could have been built in the 70's... with a little goofy Hotwheels look :nice:
