Hi guys,

The vast majority of 1:18 convertible models do not have a functional top, which in my opinion makes them less real and less playable. In this thread, I try to list all the 1:18 models with a functional top.

Starting with what in my opinion is the best 1:18 model with a working top. I have this model, and it's the best 1:18 R230 model in my opinion.

Minichamps Mercedes SL500 R230

Hotworks / Absolut Hot / Schuco Mercedes SL63 AMG R230

Motor-Max Mercedes SL500 R230
I think it's based on the Minichamps, with less details

Funny how the Maisto has a functional soft top, but dog leg door hinges.
Because I'm the Baron. That's why.

This is a borderline case, as the top is not supposed to be untied, but I have seen DX collector who did that, and the soft top does fit the body.

The model is from around 1996. Really dated. But I'm surprised they did a working top back then.

I think I remember it being a Volvo C70 Convertible, but I can't remember the maker. It's not a brand called 'Motorart' as the hard top roof only places on to the model.

F**k you Photobucket.

This one doesn't have functional top. I think someone from this forum tried to see if it works and cloth was not big enough to function I think, or something like that.

Kyosho BMW E89 Z4 also has functional top

Posted Image

I see you did Z4, I probably thought it is regular 3 series convertible. . .

Here was the discussion about the Alfa 6C functional top

Not sure if the following 1:1 corresponds to the same specification of the CMC. If that's the case, then I tend to agree that we shouldn't call the CMC a nice replication of the 1:1 roof.

I think discussion was in 2015 and that Wes was the one who tried to see if it is functional or not. I don't think I had that model at the time. Ok, you made me wrong, I retract my post :)

I spent quite some time finding that Volvo, but couldn't find one with working top.

Btw, Craig could you please move this thread away from Exotics and to Convertibles. Thanks for this.

Thanks for compiling this list. This is a handy guide for anyone who likes working convertible top. I think I have 3 such models all already covered, Kyosho BMW Z4, Welly's Peugeot 206CC and UT's SLK. I am fascinated to know Anson made a working convertible top for the CLK. I always thought there is only one version which is the CLK hard top coupe. The Maisto's 3er convertible would uber cool but spoilt by the badly rendered headlights.
