I have the NZG Actros, and when NZG announced the are Car Transporter i was eager to get it but the price was too much for me. Meanwhile KK Scale started releasing the truck rear tyre set hence i thought i will make use of MDF boards available from the 2 dollar shop and few mdf rectangle pieces.
Trying to get it in scale of 1:18 as far as possible and this is my first build of something for 1:18 from scratch.

Brought 2 40cmx15cm MDF boards (using the 15cm width since the NZG truck is almost ~15cm in width), and few KK truck rear tyre set.

Did find that the 40 foot flat bet trailer total length is 69cm in 1:18 scale. Hence used the dremel and cut one board to 29cm.
Posted Image

Drilled a hole in the center at 5cm from one end for connecting with the Truck.
Added square rods for entire length of the joined boards to added support and used 1/2 inch screws. Need to change them to bit more longer screws.
Posted Image

Sample test with the truck and tyre set

Expecting it to come somewhat like this

More to come, will use all your feedback as much possible.

Good Luck!

It looks pretty good so far, a bit 'planky' though. I think it needs a headboard or something at the cab end, and some crash bars underneath it in front of the wheels.
It has potential though :)

F**k you Photobucket.

Please feel free to check out my 1/18 collection HERE

Promissing start, channabasanna!! :eusa_clap:
With some detailing like Craig already mentioned and lots of silver paint this should become a good alternative to those pricey trailers...

Thank you Vulpex. Will be adding few more details, as you suggested i will be considering Silver paint on the Flat bed. Planning to have a yellow or light green on the sides. Any suggestions on the colors.

Updates on the Flatbed trailer:

Added few Horizontal wooden pieces for more strength. I used more 5/8 screws to fix the wood well.

Posted Image

Made a rectangular block to support the trailer wheels and temporarily added them. Through it is not realistic

Posted Image

Posted Image

Wheels added, will need to create wheel arches

Posted Image

Posted Image

Used a 1/2 inch screw as Kingpin to connect to the trailer

Posted Image

Test fit

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Size comparison

Posted Image

Will be adding:

1. Wheel arches
2. Side railings
3. Rear lights (will try adding LED)
4. Rear crash bar
5. Trailer stand (No idea what it is called)
6. Few boxes.
7. Add some putty and paint the trailer.

I sometimes forget how big these are since I have never seen one in real life, but with models on the trailer it becomes obvious.

Top tip on lights for the trailer, look at autoartspares (when it reopens), generic looking lights from random cars can suddenly fit the purpose.

Good progress here, channabasanna - looks more and more like a real thing! :eusa_clap:
Do you plan to use some kind of filler and sand the whole thing or just paint the wood as it is?

Thank you Vulpex, Will probably use Tamiya putty and paint it with some automotive spray cans.

Removed the previously built box for the trailer has it had lot of gaps

Brought some 3mm Balsa wood from Art & Friend shop here and since it was off day for me to office, spent time in building this. Will need to cover the holes using puttty.

The initial box was built
Posted Image

The box door is being built
Posted Image

Test fit of the door to the box
Posted Image

Drilled holes in the side of the box wall, used some paper clips and a drinking straw for door opening mechanism. (The pink and blue pieces in the below pics are of the different paper clips)

Glued to the trailer

Updates on the Flatbed trailer:

Trailer tail lights.

Initially planned to make it as a boxed lights but then changed to round lights.

Posted Image

The round lights: Used some transparent round stickers which are actually some furniture protectors on a medicine covers to get the inside texture, then used Tamiya clear orange and clear red as indicator and stop lights

Posted Image

Test fit on the trailer (Just to see how it looks, this is not the final position of the lights)

Posted Image

Trailer wheel arches

Used a 1 litre White milk plastic bottle then cut them into strips

Posted Image

Marked the Wheel arch positions, this was the initial marking i did, using a pencil around the tyre and it was sitting pretty low on the tyres. Then re marked the position and fixed them using Fevikwik. Will be painted later to flat black.

Posted Image

Now after new marking flued to the flatbed using fevikwik and it stuck well. Pics of the wheel arches with the tyres on the trailer.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Still to be done:
The Landing legs
Painting the trailer.

Ideally the trailer color should match the truck, in my opinion :occasion14: Or something in a complimenting  brigher color if you want it to stand out.

Getting better and better!! :eusa_clap:

Difficult to give an suggestion for the colour - of course you have to keep your truck in mind.
What I would probably do is a bit of research in google pictures until I find an inspirering example...
