Bentley has just announced its planned contender for the company's third record in the Pikes Peak Hillclimb event, currently scheduled for Sunday, June 27th.

Previously, official Bentley Hillclimb records were set by Rhys Millen, a two-time Pikes Peak overall champion and son of Rod Millen, a five-time overall winner. In 2018, Rhys drove a 600-bhp 2018 Bentley Bentayga to the Production SUV-class record which still stands:

The next year, Millen set the current Production Car record on the Peak in a 2019 Continental GT:

His weapon of choice for 2021 is this upgraded Continental GT3 car, with heavily modified aerodynamics featuring a huge rear wing and new front splitter and running on biofuel:

Anybody want THIS in his collection :nice:?

One of the reasons why, since the Eighties, I have regularly checked out the top classes competing in the Pikes Peak Hillclimb. In Ye Olden Dayes, people would bring home-grown specials ranging from oval-type dirt cars to the occasional repurposed Indy car to challenge the Peak. But ever since Audi brought the Quattro in 1985 and set Unlimited records three years in a row (Michèle Mouton, Bobby Unser, Walter Röhrl), and Peugeot took over the next year (Robby Unser), there have been some amazing manufacturer vehicles in a variety of classes showing out.

Rod Millen and his Toyota Specials, Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima and his slew of Suzuki unlimiteds, S
ébastien Loeb and the incredible Peugeot 208 T16 and, of course, the Volkswagen I.D. R were the stuff of legend.

This Bentley will just be the latest eye-popping Peak special - I look forward to seeing how it does!

I love Bentleys but this one is the stuff of nightmares. I'd soil my pants if I saw that in my rearview mirror.

How much downforce do you want with your Bentley?

YES!

Oh, I like this. It's stirring up fond memories of Volkswagen's I.D.R for me.

Nice livery too. Might be interesting to see this parked next to John Player Special liveried Lotus.
In searching for completeness in our collections,
We hunt for the wholeness in life and of self
That we forgot--over the long winding road of living--
We were never without.
