Interesting topic. I usually get multiples (1:18) if I like the car a lot!

x3 - BMW 7 - black, blue, grey
x2 - Saturn L300 - black, pewter
x5 - DMC Delorean (not including 1:64/1:24, etc) - gold, normal, BTTF 1/2/3

That's all I can remember on the top of my head right now...

Hi all
How many of you on here have bought 2, or more of the same model? For example the AUTOart gallardo in every colour.
And if its ok to ask, what's your reasons?
Me myself I won't do it, because if for instance I've bought a black Nissan gtr I won't go and buy one in a different colour because the excitement and supprise of opening the box and seeing the detail for the first time is gone.
I'd rather spend the money on something else so I can have that excitement again.
Now I know some of u for instance are 911 lovers so you will buy multiple 911s as you want every one, but for me one will do :) lol
Hope this starts a good discussion!
Cheers.

I generally don't buy more than one colour of the same model. My exceptions were:

Mattel Elite F40 because I had to have a red one of course but liked the yellow one with the red seats (have since upgraded to the Kyosho and sold the red Mattel - still have the yellow one though BNIB)

Autoart Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 because I love this car so much and waited so long for it. But the real reason I went and also bought a black one was because I bought the yellow one and the well documented colour mismatch between the metal and plastic parts was starting to p1ss me off!

For me, it is all about how much I love the real car and as long as it won't cost me too much.  I have multiple versions of:

Ferrari F355: Berlinetta and Spyder by UT, hope to get GTS soon
Ferrari 550/575: 550 Maranello by Bburago, 550 Barchetta by Hot Wheels, 575 SuperAmerica and 575 GTZ by Hot Wheels Elite
Bugatti EB110: GT by Bburago and Dauer SS by Maisto
Porsche 911 GT1: both 1996 and 1997 versions by UT
Lamborghini Diablo: GTR and VT Roadster by AutoArt, SV by Welly, SE30 Jota by Maisto, GT by MotorMax
Pagani Zonda: S by MotorMax and F by Mondo Motors
Porsche 993: Turbo, Turbo S, Carrera RS, Targa all by UT
Dodge Viper: GT2 by Maisto, RT/10 by Bburago, Competition Coupe and SRT-10 Convertible by AutoArt
Lotus Elise/Exige: Elise S1 and Type 49 by Chrono, GT1 by Chrono

For all of these cars, I love the 1:1 so much that 1 version is not enough for me.  For instance, I would rather have 2 different 911 GT1's in my collection than 1 911 GT1 and a car I didn't love as much.  Also, it is always fun to park two similar cars next to each other and compare the differences, such as different evolutionary models/model years.

I buy way too many of the same cars. The main reason is because a certain color can highlight certain features of a car or just change its overall impact. The other reason is because a manufacturer takes too long to release the color I really want so I get the first color that I can live with until I get the one I really want. The last reason is because I ain't too bright.

Personally I do, (if you'd like the details, see the 'about me' on my profile page!! )   :occasion14:

For example, a light coloured countach contrasts with the ducts and vents but a black countach hides all these and accentuates the overall lines....
and a ferrari 512BB looks completely different in yellow/black or red/black and both look lower and sleeker than the BBi in all one colour.... :gaah:

Or am I just sad?? :icon_scratch:   :hope:

Although I have yet to post pics of them all (most are still boxed up), I have Dodge Viper RT/10s and GTSs in ever color I could find....and even a couple of one offs. This includes 1/18s, 1/24s and 1/32s.

yeah, I don't like Vipers or anything lol

I also have a few others that are similar, but w/different features. Like Plymouth 'cudas with 340, 383, 426 & 440 V8s

Pretty much just like the last few answers given.  Certain colors may highlight aspects of the car I like, the color combination of the interior/exterior may be irresistible and sometimes it's for customizing reasons.  Ideally everything I owned would be customized to some degree.  It, to me, is much like an artist paints similar paintings.

The overall affect is nearly the same but, "maybe this time I'll add this and this".  Some just call it a sickness. :occasion14:

I have many Mustang Mach 1 from 1969 because I like the model, also some "Billboard" Cuda of 1971, many Camaro from 1969, for the same reason, some got "dog dish" other rally wheel they all look good.

I did the same thing for the Challenger T/A of 1970, because HW61 made a great job, and I can hardly resist when I saw one in a new color.

Yes, quite guilty!  Just look at my thread about Hwy 61 Cuda AARs & Challenger T/As.  I have all of those in different colors because I really (I mean REALLY) like AAR Cudas and their Trans AM brother the Challenger T/A.  Hwy 61 produces the best AARs & T/As as far as quality/detail AND they are reasonably priced.  I'm anxiously awaiting the release of another color of either (the AAR or T/A).

I also have quite a few other Mopars that are duplicates but in other colors.  However, many of those will have different options.  For example: some will have a Shaker hood, many are drag cars from different drivers, some may have louvers or different stripes.

There's a few other cars such as my two ERTL Authentics Camaros (one in Butternut and the other is black) that are such good cars at great prices that I couldn't resist.

I collect formula 1 cars, so in some cases I have several models of the same chassis, but as they are different drivers they all have a different underlying meaning, as f1 is a combination of car and driver. For instance I have 6 of the 2006 mclaren.

There's a guy on another forum who has to collect every colour of BBR models, so that's every colour of the BBR 458, F430, Enzo, 599XX, etc.
I think the main reason is because he's filthy rich and can afford to do so ..

Well I don't collect every colour of a model but I do have more than 10 Ertl Dodge Rams and more than 20 Anson/jrl Dodge Ram 3500's and multiples of other truck models and also of Bburago F40's and 288 GTOs... But that is because I love to modify them! I recently got two Maisto Jerp Wranglers from Jim as I wanted to mod them!

For racing fans it is very easy to purchase numerous liveries as they are distinctive for many reasons - varying race results, drivers, sponsors etc.. For this reason you are essentially buying a specific vehicle rather than just a roadcar in a particular colour choice.

Even so I have a number of different coloured Lamborghini Muiras, Countaches, Murcielagos, Ferrari Testarossas, 355s, F430s and Porsche 959s only because I liike the subject matter so much.

When I first entered the hobby, I thought I would probably not get additional versions of the same car. But, later, I realized that it's not only fun to sometimes get the same model yet with  different colors or options, it also gave a sense of "security" in knowing you had at least one (or more) back-ups to a much-loved model car should some diecast accident take place, like a drop, a shelf failure, or even diecast cancer.

In other cases, I simply couldn't make up my mind as to a favorite version/color or later, an equally desired version of the model was re-released.

Mike
