I have been thinking long and heard into starting to build some more detailed 1:18 and have come across a few APM kits. I am a little apprehensive as I havent seen many on the forum. How is the quality and is it worth it??

Well worth is subjective I suppose but the quality is good...in terms of shape and detail. The only problem that I have, and I'm not sure if I'm the only one, is that the kit doesn't really fit onto the model that well. I had three kits from them(two 16M and one Novitec) for the 430 and none of the front bumper fit while the engine cover for the 16M doesn't fit as well.

But I suppose if you're already thinking of doing a full mod, a little putty here and there and sanding isn't gonna be really big a problem I suppose.

What kit are you planning to get?

Where have you come across them? Online? The Scuderia transkit seems to be unattainable these days...

Which kit are you looking at in particular? I have the Hamann F430 kit and everything fits well except the front lip which is slightly too wide. But I'd highly recommend these kits since they're pretty much the only things out there and it really helps to make a unique model.

I've got a Novitec Rosso California kit as well and that fits really well.

I know mrm on this forum has a few of these kits for sale, so maybe he can help you out with the Scuderia source. Ayaxr, do you need the Scud kit? I think I know of a place that can get you the 16M kit...

Thanks for the help, I had read that mrm had planned to release a few custom models with the kits and maybe he would replicate the kits and sell em..  And yes I'm interested in the Scuderia Kit, from what I understand APM has 2 kits, one thats a regular 16M and one thats a Novitec Rosso Scuderia kit which I would assume would not work with a spyder model due to the different engine cover. I'd be looking for both actually if possible but would prefer going with the 16M first if at all possible...  I did a search on ebay and found 1 kit for the scuderia, think I'm gonna jump on it, just the pricing is a bit on the high side. I've missed many of them on ebay for hesitating to get them just like now lol ... we'll see.

Lots of APM kits are copied and sold on eBay, so be aware.
The HK seller I'd say definately has some copied stuff. I did buy an unbranded resin Diablo VT wing off him but the quality was fine. I have asked before about who made a particular kit he sells and his reply was that it didn't have a name on it so he doesn't know.
Having said that though, I've heard some APM kits are great but others are not soo good, just depends on what you're after.

That seller is okay but I'm not sure if all of it are genuine. I got the 430 Super GT from them a few months back and it came without several pieces...most notably...the front windscreen. I emailed them and they never replied back. So..just beware.

Word of advice, none of the kits on ebay seem to be complete authentic kits, they seem to only provide the resin parts which could be copied from the original kits..I might be wrong but looking at the Novitec Scuderia kit online it only provides bumpers/skirts/wheels and a lame decal sheet..
Comparing to the real one.

http://www.autoplace...ecscuderia.html

That's not to say you shouldn't buy it, if you're aware of it then that's fine, just the pricing seems a bit high for an incomplete kit....  Finding a real APM kit now days seems like the holy grail though so ... I'm on the same boat as the rest of you guys.. one has to make do with whats available.
I still dont understand why APM doesnt do a re-release of the kits, it obviously would be a money maker.

:agreed: seems to be missing parts when you compare-

eBay seller:

Seems to be a LOT more parts in the official APM kit, as well as a much more detailed photoetch sheet.
IMO the seller should not be advertising the kit as an APM and especially not for that price when its incomplete and/or possibly a copied kit. :occasion14:

I think the seller just got the listing wrong because the Novitec kit(non-Scuderia) I got from APM is exactly the one in Phatboi's first picture. The photoetch kit looks "incomplete" because the Scud has an entirely different interior and also it includes those seatbelt details while the regular Novitec's photoetch are for the exterior only.

So IMO, the kit looks genuine but probably just the listing is incorrect.

To my knowledge APM never made a "regular" scuderia transkit for the coupe, I could be wrong though..  But look again at the sellers item, it includes a Novitec decal sheet which does not match ones from the APM kit, same goes for the grill inserts... Furthermore it includes Novitec wheels not the regular scuderia wheels. So I think the authenticity of the kit is highly in doubt... never the less.. as I said before, this is all thats available.

Most of these kits don't have the rubber tires with them ... do you mount the original tires onto the new rims ?

I've got one of the Reventon GT kits ... but I'm NOT impressed with the quality to be honest ... did get four rubber tires with it because the regular Bburago's don't fit it.

GenJi claimed their kits have tires, but I'll see when it arrives.
