Only U.S. cars in my collection, i have about 220 cars including trailers, accessories and a camper.

'30s & '40s: cars like the Auburn Speedster,Cord 812, and HotRods of course.
'50s: cars like the '57 Chevy Belair and '55 Pontiac Star Chief.....
'60s & '70s: US musclecars.....Mustang, Camaro, Chevelle, GSX, GTO, Skylark, Challenger, Corvette, Cobra.........
Classic pickups like Apache, Ford F100, Dodge Warlock & Lil Red Express
Some newer cars, but these are the minority.
Try to stick to the 1:18 models, but collect the previously owned 1:1 cars, on 1:43.

Very nice collection and really digging the dio, too.

Hmm...ever thought about getting a rough/damaged 1/18, taking it apart, removing the engine, then setting it up in the dio with the engine/engine hoist to make it look like you are actually doing an engine swap?

When i start to build my 2nd, bigger Cobra-dio, i have 1 complete and 1 uncomplete older Kyosho cobra
to put on/under the gmp-lift as "work-in-progress".

Took some pictures of my cabinets how they look now.
Sorry, i have a plain digital camera, and low daylight in this hobby/play/library room.

Planning of buying a 2nd wooden display just for the Mustangs and Corvettes,
and giving the rest of the models more space. Number of cars may go up to 150 then.

The wooden cabinet is an Ikea Bjursta with extra glass shelves (8mm).
Posted Image
The cabinet underneath the glass showcase is an Ikea Leksvik.
Posted Image
The glass showcase is a counter showcase from a shop which i got from a firesale (70$)
Only got the picture of the 2ndhandsite before i filled it
Posted Image
900mm H x 1000mm W x 600mm D

Replaced the small wheels with the feet you get with every Ikea cabinet,
fits exactly on top of the Leksvik, which i reinforced the same way as the Bjursta.
(mdf 18mm backplate, all parts screwed together).

That glass showcase is very nice, would love to find one like you did in a firesale ... if you see how much these are brand new from a shop interior decorator you better be sitting firmly in your seat :gaah:

Ask for someone to build one for you. I got my display case like that and I don´t think it was very expensive...

Nice american models you got there schuifelhoofd!! If you´re looking to add some more, I have a few american cars that I wish to sell! Send me a PM if you want a list, maybe I got something that interests you.

I like this cabinet, they are available in Canada for $300 each.

Can you tell me how many car it can take, whit 2 additionnals shelves ?

If they can handle 40 die casts of 1:18 it could be interesting.

I had 6 shelves made in 8mm (they only rest on the sides),
the 4 glass shelves that came with it are doubled to 2 shelves (see bottom half).

You can fit 6 x 1:18 model comfortably on each shelf.
Look at the 6 belairs in the picture of the top half.
Even 7 if you put them like this (6 BelAir '57 + 1 BelAir '55)
I also had a narrow shelf made to make an extra "floor"
Posted Image

Or even 8 if you got smaller cars (like the HotRods)

The top half has 4.52 inches of space between shelves, perfect for a 1:18 car.

My shelves in the top half are placed so i have 4 shelves, and 1 large bottom area
(for diorama, garage or larger diecasts like vans, trucks...),
the bottom half has 5 shelves + a narrow shelf that fits 2 cars.

So in this config i have room for 9 x 6 cars (average) + 2 on the narrow shelf = 56 + a large area for a diorama.
For now i have another 4 Cobra's in my dio, so that makes 60 cars.

Spend the money on 8 decent shelves (6 or 8mm), and you got a beautiful showcabinet.

I strongly recommend to replace the standard glass shelves,
the standard ones are quite fragile to load with heavy cars. or you could place struts.
Every Ikea cabinet gets you a couple of free footpegs.
A piece of 10mm alu tube (8mm inside) and a couple of M8 bolts get you there.
Posted Image
2 footpegs and a square alu tube makes a stand-alone strut
