I had brought one to the 2010 Motorsports Hall of Fame to have Carroll sign. They are almost identical to GMP's 1/12. Gorgeous, with really nice detail, but they tend to be pricey. They only made the 289 version, not the 427, which is a shame.

worth having if you're a diehard Cobra guy.

I ran out of space long ago, but that hasn't stopped me!

I was going to pick up the blue FIA 289 racer to go with my GMP street 289 and Kyosho 427

Loadsa pics of all 3 variants on google images Sven....I was thinking about one meself....

The red with wire wheels and the iconic side windscreens was initially most tempting, but the clunky air filter makes the engine look a bit dull compared to the open throat carbs on the racers..... :twocents:

I received mine yesterday from Amazon.de....they had the best price I could find, plus it gave me some peace of mind in case there were any issues.

Which turned out to be a good plan.  The model does have a couple of issues - the first is the paint, which has large metallic particles, so it almost looks like a metalflake in scale.  The coverage is also a bit heavy, especially on the hood and doors, with pooling around the edges.

However, the second is one I don't want to live with, which is that the driver's side door is mounted to the hinge about 1/16" back too far.  It won't close at all and does not appear like it can be easily tweaked.  I'm going to look at it again tonight to see if there's anything I can do, but I'm guessing not.

So I'm going for an exchange at this point.  The rest of the model was great, so hopefully this is a one-off issue.

That's a bummer! Hopefully you'll get a good one. Thanks for the info on the paint.

Thanks for your observations GG - Perhaps the solid red or matt black finish would be a better bet then? :twocents:

You're both welcome!  I would think either of those would be better....pictures I've seen of the red and black don't show the paint pooling like some show in the blue one.

I took some pictures this afternoon before boxing it back up, just letting it rest on the tires without the knockoffs.  Here are a few showing the door mismatch as well as the paint.  Look at the edges of the door and, in the third picture, the closest corner of the hood.

Here's hoping the replacement's doors are both good!

Ugh!  I just received the second from Amazon.de, and it has a similar issue with the passenger's side door.  There are also some scratches on the driver's side where the exhaust exits the body.  So, back it goes.

This time I'm going to try using Nasshan, and am asking him to open at least one up to make sure the doors fit ok.  This is nuts.

I have one that I bought from Modelissimo - I think it was on special for around €150 if memory serves.
The doors and paint are fine, but the tyres have a tendency to slide off the rims, which is easy to correct.
However I felt it necessary to use heavy polystyrene blocks under the axles to support the significant weight.
And I haven't been able to pinpoint the race event it's meant to represent.
I'm pretty sure it was Ken Miles who drove it(because of the lump hammer and goggles).
As regards being a 289 - this was how Shelby raced the car and by extension made it famous as a Corvette beater.
The 427 was not as popular or as significant as the 289 for racing - so I am happy with this specification of the Cobra.
And for what I paid for it, I can live with any small flaws......
