Before Korean car manufacturers tried to mimic Mercedes. Nowadays it is vice versa.
I can see strong influence of Hyundai Equus / Genesis in this car.

looks-wise, the former imposing majesty of the S-Class seems to have evaporated with every S since the w140 (and that wasn't much of a looker!)

It's heartbreaking to see another 'meh' S-Class.

So here's my thinking.

The S-Class has always been a technological tour de force. But its styling strategy has always erred toward conservatism, to look good for years to protect the buyers' investment (and resale value), rather than being designed as some whimsical fashionista car.

But here's the problem with the new S-Class. It looks too much like any big Merc you have seen in the last 13 years. Maybach? Check. Previous S-Class? Check. CL coupe? Check. CLS? Check. CLA? Check.

An S-Class should look - imposingly, and soberly - like an S-Class, and should stamp its superiority like nothing else. Instead, the new one looks like a styling mis-match of a bunch of old Mercs, all of which took their styling cue from a bland 2002 Hyundai.

Can Mercedes styling - so glitzy and just so chintzy today - get much worse? Is the suit from Primark it has dressed it in, the best Mercedes can do for the formerly noble-looking S-Class?

Awful car! Eventually mercedes has lost their designing path, this car looks like a Genesis sedan with some mercedes logos... For Mercedes should have keep this lines, even though they weren't my favourites...Posted Image

I didn't like it based on spy pics/early renderings & this Norev model...but based on the pics on Edmunds' site, I do like it.  Substantially better looking than the current model, IMO.

There is one on ebay now - no box etc.

So I thnik this is a 'back door' job, or they're selling one of the toy show cars.

That's insane price!
They cost probably half as much in China at the moment. I'd just wait a few weeks, until the proper models (no backdoor) arrive.

The W220 S class will always be my favorite generation of S Class. I know norev can't make one because Maisto has exclusive rights but one could hope right?

That's my favorite too!!

I wonder just how much do exclusive rights mean. Mattel is supposed to have the exclusive rights of Ferrari, but they can still allow Kyosho to make some (at a higher price).

Maybe Maisto can do the same for the S-class and the CLK GTR street version!

Yep that price is bonkers, I think they'll sell it though as some people always like to be first. I remember last year when the Kyosho Rolls Royce Ghost model came along, some people paid £400 for them, then more came along for less than half that price!

W140, W220 and W222 are ugly for my eyes.
The best are W116, W108 and W100 even though the last is not exactly an S-Class. So beautiful.

But of course the coolest S-Class ever is Porco Rosso:

Quite a decent model when you keep in mind it's a Norev. I like the table and the screens in the back!

Hoping for some dark luxurious colours like blue, burgundy or black...

- Sanchez, it's a shame only Maisto did the W220. I'd like a better one!

I bought a Norev W126 dealer edition the other day, to go with my others. I'm quite looking forward to getting it.

I think Black will sell quickly. I want one in a dark colour too. Every Silver Mercedes I see in London is a private hire taxi!!

I didn't know about the exclusive rights now it all makes sense. I am always puzzled as to why no one else made W220. I too would love to see Norev makes a more detailed W220 their effort on S classes has been fabulous.

ps: Almost forgot Sunstar did make a W220 pullman does it means Maisto only secured the rights for the SWB version or something?

The Maisto one has it written on the box that they have the exclusive rights for the W220.

Here's a pic I took from ebay.

I've no idea on the Pullman W220 car.

I think a Norev model would be a nice upgrade.

hmm you are right Craig i have the Maisto box too but i never pay much attention to the "EXCLUSIVE" wording LOL.

Here you can see the W220 Pullman, http://www.freewebs....0600pullman.htm the site belongs to one of the DXer, mbc112. It is rather well made I must say, I almost had an opportunity to buy one for about $40 from Biante but I didn't act quick enough and the last one was snagged by somebody else. :(

Norev will definitely improves the model if they can produce one. As far as I know there are 2 versions of W220 from Maisto, the later version spots a slightly improved headlights with orange tint to represent indicators.
