Hi guys,
First off sorry i have not been on for a while been busy trying to get a new job.
Anyways i have now gotten a job with W.H Smith in the modelzone dept.
This is only going to be in 10 large stores for a few months but if it goes well it could go into a LOT more as they have over 600 stores in U.K.
Im hoping this could be the start if something good as long as the right people are there (cough cough) i dont have the list of exactly what stores yet but when i do i will keeo everyone updated. I dont think this is a flash in the pan idea though as the store i will be working in have set aside more floorspace than a lot of modelzone stores actually had!!
And from what i have heard they will be stocking a large range not just the gift ideas!
So all in all i am glad to be working back within modelzone and i do think it may go better than the original lol.

That's brilliant news Alec, glad to hear you're back in your element! :wavetowel2:   So is it still the 'old' Modelzone but scaled down to fit like a stall in the host WHS store?    :icon_scratch:
In any case, I don't suppose the Haverfordwest WHS will have one tho', it's hardly big enough to fit any books in.... :bawling:

Thanks mate, i can't wait lol.
Im not too sure just yet. Dont start for a week yet but by the sound of things they know what went wrong with MZ and are going to fill the void left by MZ closing.
What they are trying to do is recruite knowledgable people rather than just "sales assistants" to make it a sucess. Only time will tell....but to me this is a fresh start with a know name but being run by a very succesfull company so it has the ability to really work as long as product and range are correct
Dont get me wrong i dont think people will be coming in and asking for servos or speed controls etc i think it will be a great place to be at the start and hopefully it can grow into a profitable part of the company.

Hmmm this sounds cool! I hope this takes off as i miss the ModelZone in the Trafford Center. :(

One thing i dont look forward to is their diabolical prices though! I mean I got a Minichamps Bentley Continental S2 off Ebay, brand new from Holland for £100 less than they were asking in MZ! I have to say though i got some great stuff from MZ when they had their sales.

I remember when Smiths had a huge toy section - probably nigh on 30 years ago.

Hopefully with their buying clout we might see some keen pricing too.

Really good news and good luck with the job :)
