1/18 2023 Peugeot 408 X "Allure Pack/GT-Line Mix" (DE) Vs. 1/18 Citroën C5X (DE) ...by Paudi Model

Dynamic Duo! That is the approach in which French Parent Company Stellantis has taken with both of their newest fastback higher riding sedans. More like a modern take on a Citroën XM/DS/Rover SD1 meets Subaru Outback vibe. Basically like a modern day AMC Eagle passenger car take (but with French European proportions).
As it is 2023, automobile companies in the west have shifted focus towards upselling more SUVs or CUVs. In a response to not totally abandon the car, the PSA part of Stellantis have created a lifted fastback which might confuse some buyers into thinking that it's a lowered CUV or confuse other buyers into thinking that it's a higher riding sports wagon. Either way, it does strike an interesting balance between both worlds and taking us back to the late 70s & early-to-mid-80s Europe/UK, when cars like these were commonplace here.

I recently did a review of my Citroën C5X here on DX, only to later have Peugeot finally release their twin variant the 408 (both CDM Dealer miniatures) a few months later. You can find, my C5X review here on DX: 1/18 Citroën C5X (DE)...by Paudi Model That said, I figured that it would be fun to show both of these two cars together and see how each design department differentiated each vehicle's styling to give them a unique corporate flavor and personal character. I personally am on the fence as to which one I prefer more. I love Peugeot interiors (especially lit up at night in reality), but I also like the exterior looks on both, for being so different. In reality, the cars look flat and wide, but with a slightly raised ride height, certainly not CUVs. One neat trick that Peugeot pulled off to hide the rear head room, causing it to look better was, to incorporate "Cat Ears" just above the upper back windows. In order to avoid the "hunchback" or wagon like look that the C5X sports, the hatch hinges on the 408 are placed higher in order to increase rear passenger headroom without being so obvious. This gives the Peugeot 408 a much slicker/sportier profile. Smart!

Again, Paudi Model does an outstanding job on pretty much all of their promotional miniatures (no exception here). This one is on level with my Citroën details wise, but in a "blue r" flavor. All of the key features are there such as sliding front seats/folding rear seats/panoramic moonroof/folding side mirrors/opening fuel door cover/liftable rear load floor with storage divider underneath/liftable rear package shelf/carpeted interior. The motor bay and engine are accurately detailed (minus the massive hood/bonnet hinges), the interior looks almost photo realistic, with an abundance of details from IP/Center stack graphics/stitched looking soft touch seats in a really dramatic shade of blue (That interior was a key factor why I had to buy this model). The wheels are replicated very well in a diamond cut/black high-contrast two-tone finish. Both upper and lower front grilles are perforated, with the upper having a radiant design motif graphic (via "Allure Pack" design trim). The rear lights here and the Peugeot logo door shields are from the European GT-Line, but the upper grille and wheels are both from the EU-Spec'd "Allure Pack" trim? So, China is getting both worlds here.
Overall, the chassis is metal, the suspension (both front & rear) works, lighting details look great, the back side and rear windows are tinted and the model wears photo-etched badging (minus on the facia's nose, as the CDM-spec'd car doesn't read "PEUGEOT" over the front grille). Also, the model's body panels are very tight...you will need your DE tool to open the hood/bonnet here, as it does not feature that press-up button thing the C5X has hanging from the lower front underside.....Whew! Also, the paint on my example is flawless!

I really can recommend adding this 408 X miniature (as well as the C5X). It's a pretty model of an interesting fastback sedan. I like the fact that it's not another CUV and that PSA were brave enough to still make new conventional cars (although full EVs of both will release soon).
The best part is, that either of these models can be had for around $100USD/Euros! What a tremendous deal these are, especially considering that these are a lot higher detailed than even more pricier models (minus the dog-leg hood hinges)! Cheers!

Oh wow that 408 is a looker!
Well both of them are. I agree that each brand designer differentiates these cars enough as platform cousins, so customers have choices of more distinct flavors.

As of the model itself, these are the usual
Paudi standard (and maybe a little beyond). I am impressed by the trouble they took on the perforated grilles, a feature many premium model maker still take shortcuts.

Love the interior details! I enjoyed looking thru the interior shots. You said these are lit at night?? It has built in lights?

Paudi especially made good choice the wheels option.

Great pics! Thank you for posting these.

Hi Stefanus!😊 I really like that each brand has a very distinctive character as well!

I am surprised that I really liked this car, the large rear bumper could be off putting for some. Then I remembered that people in Paris tend to bump park one another and figured that was a possible reason... however, IDKW they do about the beautiful front facia?🤷‍♂️

Paudi Model really did hit it to another level here. It's so detailed. I love it when they do French branded models or Nissan/Infinitis....because they really don't miss a beat, plus the price point is just mind blowing-ly good! If these were subsidized by the actual automotive company for promotional reasons, they'd be $300 plus models.

The blue/black interior really drew me into this model! It was a big reason why I had to add it immediately! When I talk about being "lit" I mean 1/1 Peugeot interiors. They looks great at nice and game me a very comforting feeling, especially in the 3008 GT (Which this reminds me of a bit)!😊

To think, that these are the smaller 19 inch "Allure Pack" wheels here. The GT has a similar design, but are 20s or 21 inchers?

My Pleasure Sharing Stefanus! I figured that since these aren't SUVs, it was a break from those, before I start posting more reviews. Although, i have a slew of Sports/GT cars coming (when I make time to edit them as well)! CHEERS!😊🥂

An excellent and thorough write-up as usual, David. I love the light blue and the stitching on that Peugeot's interior! Once again, Paudi makes a quality product at a good-value price! 😃

Thanks Steven! Luckily these two were released within months of each other, so that I could pair them. The interior on the Peugeot SOLD ME!! I was so impressed seeing that it was not another black hole of an interior with low details. Kudos to Paudi Model for this as well as a reasonable price point! 👏 😊 Are you also adding one or both as well?:)

I have some other models on the way, so I think I'll wait awhile before ordering more!

Ohh, I am curious as to what you will be adding or rather showing soon! 😊 👏Cheers!!!🍾🥂
A very interesting pair and something we North Americans sadly miss out on. While I generally like the overall look of the pair I feel the side profile on the C5X is cleaner looking without that kink. But the 408X definitely has the more attractive front and back end.

Not much needs to be said about the details as it looks to be another home run for Paudi.

Funny you mention the Eagle as just today I educated a colleague that, in spite of Subaru's claims to the contrary, the Eagle was the first car in the US market (perhaps even overall) to have full-time AWD and the first crossover! Unfortunately for AMC they were 30 years too early to the party!

Hey Belal! Yeah, not even Canada are getting these to French branded cars. Ah, the 70s & 80s, at least our parents could buy these car's predecessors in North America. My opinion keeps changing when I see these in reality. from a 3/4 front view in passing, the C5X looks way more premium and wider/flatter and futuristic in reality, especially in this warmer color or white. When I see the 408 in person it looks aggressive like a Peugeot but again, I am used to seeing Peugeots. I might be partial to the C5X, as we had a C5 which was replaced by the c5X in reality. They both look modern...but, I LOVE Peugeot interiors, especially when all lit up at night on top like GT spec'd cars, plus they are both comfortable brands to ride in.

Paudi Model doing what Paudi Model does best, EVERY DETAIL....lol Minus the dog legs, which I don't mind. 😊

Yes, when I was really young, one of my mother's friends had an AMC Eagle, before he sold it for an Audi 4000. So, I was used to seeing and I thinking I remember riding in it? I was small/younger. Yes, sometimes you are too fast in getting there before everyone else is ready for the transition! Cheers!!🥂🍻
