Porsche introduced the 964 Turbo model in March, 1990 as the successor to the 930. However, they hadn't had the necessary time to develop a turbocharged version of the 3.6 liter M64 engine, and chose to re-use the 3.3 liter engine from the 930, with several minor revisions that made the engine smoother, less prone to turbo lag and more powerful, with a total output of 316 hp at 5,750 rpm. A total of 3,660 964 Turbos were built.

Porsche released the 964 Turbo 3.6 in January, 1993, now featuring a KKK K27 turbocharged version of the 3.6 liter M64 engine developing 355 bhp at 5,500 rpm at 4,200 rpm of torque, produced only for model year 1993/1994, with fewer than 1,500 of them produced in total, making it one of the rarest and most sought after Porsches produced since the 959.

A black 1994 MY was used in the Bad Boys movie, starring Will Smith and Martin Laurence.

The black 964 turbo looks so cool. Definitely remind me of the late 80s commercials and movies featuring the black 911 turbo with big whale tail. Tempted to buy this one too but I already have the red and yellow Turbo/RS from Solido and I really shouldn't be hoarding too many 911 Porsches 😁

They were the '80's ultimate 'yuppie era' car! That and a Mk2 Golf GTi in Red! The 'starter kit' was, an over coat, big mobile phone, filofax, Light Blue shirt (preferably with a White collar) Red braces (suspenders if you're in the US) and one of those cars, plus a load of White powder ;)

I think you can never have too many 911 models, once you factor in all of the models, the list is pretty endless! Irun at around 100 911 models alone. I just love them!

Haha.. scenes from Wall Street, Beverly Hill cop, American Psycho, No Man's Land etc plus countless 80s MTV come to mind. That was indeed a very colourful and bold era for fashion, music and automobile. Both Porsche 911 and 928 were definitely the creme de la creme at the time.

I think my total 911 count of all gens stand at about 60+ at the moment. I think a dozen of them at least are the UT 993 in various guises. And the Solido 964 really reminds me of the wonderful UT 993 and I hope they will make more variants of it.. perhaps a normal 964 and targa would be lovely.

This may only resonate with our U.K. members, and those who remember shops from the 80s; when talking about the 1988 BMW 323i, CAR Magazine did a deliciously contemporary play on words that totally nailed the ‘yuppie’ demographic by stating that ‘… the BMW 323i comes Next-For-Men who want to upgrade their Golf GTI.’

I’d love to be able to write/quip like that!

I just watched that the other day. What’s a fun movie, especially if you’re a P-car guy. How a Z-28 and Lincoln Continental kept up with a 930 Turbo is movie magic at its finest.
So far I only managed to watch couples of the highlights on YT. Have yet to find it on the streaming sites that I have access to. Just like the Wraith, I only get to find the full movie on Prime long after I watched most of the fragmented bits on YT. Frankly I don't really care much about the movie plot anyway all I want is to see the scenes with Dodge Interceptor in it haha.

I always see the E30 is the quintessential yuppie icon. There is a segment from documentary BBC's Das Auto which shows the BMW being the go to brand for anyone who thinks they have made it in the 80s.
