There’s budget for one diecast this month, so it was between the Integra, the Audi 200 and the R25. Decided that while I like the Audi and the Renault, of the three I’d love to own a 1:1 Integra more than the other two. Honda now ordered :)
A man of culture! A 98 CW ITR is #5 on my lottery list.

Frustratingly, a used two year old 1:1 was on my purchase list years back. I had the test drive booked with the Honda dealer and everything; the test drive was cancelled (I think a work event was the cause), and the car sold when I went to rebook :-(
Hmm nothing for me
Ordered an Escort but it's a shame it's the same driver & rally as the IXO one. The Otto will be better quality but should think so. The UT is from the Manx Rally.

1 IXO is costing £78.95 & 1 Otto is costing £93.24 / €101.50 at the time I pre-ordered.
I though the IXO one was the Manx rally the same as the UT Models one ?
I've gone with,
BMW E46 M3 Touring Concept & Volvo 850 R (would love an estate / wagon of one, but oh well!)
Ford Escort RS Cosworth Michelin Pilot Network Q RAC rally & Honda Integra DC2 Euro spec.

No, it's Malcom Wilson 1993 RAC Rally

The Otto Pilot Escort has what looks like correct loose surface wheels/tyres.
The IXO seems to be on tarmac wheels, not really correct for the RAC.
Although there were some spectator stages on tarmac, so it might be correct....

Gotcha, cheers mate.

Ooh, day version! I might have to think about getting that one as the OttO Mobile one is the night stage.
I saw a pre-order listed on eBay over the weekend for a 1/12 scale Phase 2 Renault Clio V6 in Liquid Yellow, apparently out in March. The model code they used was for the 1/18 though and it's not on the OttO Mobile website.

I had suspected they'd make one in this colour, so hopefully it's true!

A Phase 1 Clio V6 in 1/12 scale would also be cool, so hopefully one of those will come sometime.
I received the BMW 750iL today, but no spare numberplates to swap them around

Even I know the MX5 was called the Miata in the US.
A name that didn't seem to make any sense, what was wrong with MX5?
Didn't Mazda sell an MX6 in the US?
Ordered the Alpina, very nice. Also requested the regular BMW 750 plates at Otto and received them too.

They did. I think the Ford Probe was based off of it, but can't quite recall. There was also the MX-3 also known as the Precidia.

Best guess is that focus groups found the different MX designations confusing so they gave them names. Or perhaps management assumed customers here would be confused.

It triggers a question that has always made me wonder.
Why were cars sold in different markets given different names?
That's aside from the branding changes that manufacturers often chose to run with.
Case in point - in the UK the Fiat Ritmo was originally called the Strada - why?
And it wasn't anything to do with being right hand drive, in Ireland they were badged as Ritmo.....

Yes, I think the MX6 (which I thought was a lovely looking car) shared some of its bones with the Probe.

Not sure why the Miata was the Miata in the US. Maybe they thought it was more emotional a name for the US over MX5?

Ritmo sounded too much like Flymo. But that doesn’t explain why Ireland got the Ritmo. In the US, Ritmo was also the name of a sanitary towel (Ritmo means Rhythm; so that makes sense), so the US got the Strada name.

Vauxhall Corsa sounded too much like Coarser (rough), so the U.K. got Nova. No idea why Corsa later became acceptable.

Then there are all sorts of licensing issues, or names that won’t wash in some languages, like Alfa’s 164, which meant something horrid in one language (apologies, I can’t remember which now), so it was turned into 168 in others.

I think Ford Cortina means glamorous place in Italy in the U.K, but it means curtains in Spanish. Naming cars is a mine field :)

Well examples I can think of are

Subaru Liberty/Legacy. In Australia Legacy doesn't work as a name due to a large well established charity known as Legacy so they supposedly didn't want to tread on any toes. But in the US Liberty was not deemed appropriate due to the meaning in their cultural context.

Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero. It's called the Pajero in most parts of the world. But in Spanish speaking countries Pajero has a NSFW meaning so in the US they decided to call it a Montero instead.

The more so when you consider some of the names chosen, which seem idiotic.
Did no one warn VW about using the name 'Sharan' on a car?

In Sweden and maybe some other countrys the Nissan Silvia was renamed to 180/200 SX because or queen is named Silvia.
And the Honda Fitta was renamed to Jazz in Sweden for some reason .
