You were spot on Vulpex. I've separated the two parts to have a look see. I was hoping it might be easy to remove the dashboard so it could be resprayed to the correct black colour, but the innards are too well glued in to risk prising them out and breaking something. I'm waiting for some feedback on some possible tyre options which if the rubber is soft enough, should go on without separating the body parts. If that comes off I'll post some images.
