this is a question i;m wondering.
which do u all think is the better buy? an Autoart car or a Minichamps car?

so far i have only 2 minichamps (M3 E46GTR / 3.0 CSL Art Car), and i'll havto say, those 2 beat any of my Autoarts hands down...

i really love the weight and overall feel those 2 cars give me. among my small collection, those 2 minichamps are at the top in terms of overall quality and feel.

Esp. the E46 GTR, i really love holding it... it's weight and it gives a very very solid feel. The Art Car is also very very beautifully made. I have also held the Z1 in my hands b4 and it also has a very solid and heavy feel.

The only problem i encountered was the quality of the paint on the M3 GTR, i had to go back to the store to make an exchange after i saw some bubbles on my car... but after going thru a few cars, only mine was the one wif the paint problem, so i'm not too sure if it was a one-off... but i got it exchanged for a proper one in the end.

i like the M3 GTR so much i wish minichamps was making the M3 CSL..

Where i am, the minichamps do not command a price premium over the Autoarts...
maybe slightly higher then normal AUTOart performance cars but priced lower then the millenium cars...

So given a choice, which maker would you all choose?

I actually prefer AutoArt. I agree that PMA models have a very nice weight on them, but I think their detail is less than AUTOart, at least on the PMA models I have (BMW E46 M3 GTR and Ford Escort RS1600 AVO). Especially the Escort is not as detailed as I would have thought before I got it. The M3 is very detailed, only the paint finish isn't like AUTOart's, it's actually quite bad, and the interior materials (like flocked seats and steering wheel) are not as good as AUTOart, in the case of the seats and steering wheel, the flocking isn't there at all.
Beside that, PMA still use decals :ranting
I still need to get the Volvo P1800, which seems to be a very good model. Then I might change my decision, but for now, it's AutoArt for me :cheers

To me, it depends more on the car than who made the model :cheers

Minichamps, simply because they make F1 cars, AUTOart does not. AUTOart does make some very nice models, and I have a lot more AAs than MCs. . . weird :happy

Of the models I have, I prefer AUTOart's quality. But if one of these companys had to go quietly into that good night, let it be AUTOart. Minichamps makes a wider variety that appeals to me and they are more daring in what they choose. Would AUTOart ever make an Opel Rekord? AUTOart is gaining on that front though, if their recent announcements are to be believed.

My thoughts exactly. I can't say much, since I have only one Minichamps, but from what I've seen AUTOart is a little better then Minichamps. I also prefer AUTOart because at least here in Brazil they're way easier to find then Minichamps's cars, so here AUTOart has a bigger variety to offer.

Overall I think AUTOart are slightly better models, but I do like the more varied range of subjects Minichamps seem to do. But AUTOart would be my choice of the two.

My vote goes to AUTOart - as I feel their quality is better.

Note: AUTOart products are a lot cheaper than Minichamps diecasts, where I'm at (Bay Area).

Minichamps bc the name seems more novel and the cars they make are awesome!! But then again AUTOart is just plain great!! :tempted

Id go for Autoart.......although Minichamps do make some fantastic older cars like the Volvo P1800 and the VW Variants

in my opinion, overall quality of AUTOart is slighly better than Minichamps but the best Minichamps models are far better than the best AUTOart models. In Minichamps I like their wight and these models give me overall better filling from them than from AUTOart models - I feel them like toys (AUTOart) - not weighty and too much plastic. But of course I will buy both Minichamps and AUTOart in future because both offer different cars.

Given the TYPES of models AUTOart makes, I chose them.

My collection mainly contains Minichamps models and my main manufacturer to deal with is Minichamps. Unfortunately here in the UK, traders can not rely on AUTOart at the moment as there are some disputes between the importers. This has a knock on affect to the consumers, which however are still very much capable of getting them from abroad or those dealers who buy from abroad. The small amount of AUTOart I do have are very well detailed but then they are higher priced than Minichamps, so I would expect it. One problem I find with Minichamps though, is that models differ quite a bit with some being much more detailed than others, but I suppose this is just the way it goes.

Overall...ifs Minichamps for me.
