Three new acquisitions. Three gorgeous looking saloons that truly embraces the 3 box design style. I am really glad to have gone with the grey metallic for the Volvo 960 after reading David's excellent review. The colour is beautiful coupled with light beige interior. The Alfa 164 is another excellent model despite being sealed. I am really impressed with Triple9's latest offerings so far and look forward for more. I think I just need to stay away from their silver cars as I had two in silver before, Honda Civic EF and Datsun KPGC10. The colour looks uninspiring to me so I didn't keep them for long.

The Renault 21 Turbo is another one of my new favourite now. I didn't pay much attention to Renault at all in the past until Solido came along and made these great Renaults. I think the French model car makers really help to promote their national cars. Norev got me into Citroen and Solido introduced me to Renault.

I love the little details captured by Solido. I presume those are the registration sticker found on the original car the model is based on.

The 21 Turbo is I think one of the coolest looking - yet overlooked! - cars of the 80s. Sharp, wedgy, distinctive. I really should get one. Great threesome, Jazzy. You’re on a roll at the moment (y)

I love all of them! Of the three I'd still maybe see still around now it's the Alfa & the Volvo. The Renault not so much only maybe at a car show, never just out in the wild being taken to the supermarket.

I found out the other day that Solido have made a Renault 21 Turbo Gendarmerie car, so I'm really pleased! I've never been able to get the OttO Mobile one so I'll get one of the Solido's.

Ooohhh Simon, you're singing my tune!! Absolutely loving this very specific post! As with Scott, very classy my friend! 👏
Something about these models draws one in, even if I could pass by the 1/1(Volvo and Renault) without batting an eye. However, in 1/18th scale, I love'em so much, that I found interest in their 1/1 counterparts!😊 Crazy how inspirational these models are. Also, LOVING that Solido are doing some really interesting and overlooked model cars.🥂

Cheers Scud! Those 80s road warriors certainly are distinctively boxy 😆 Somehow the silver 21 Turbo reminds me slightly of the VK Commodore from the side. When Solido first announced them I didn't know anything about them yet but somehow I just want it. And thanks to the affordable price point I can buy it without any guilts.

These 3 saloons are my current favourite. I can't remember the last time I saw an Alfa 164 in the wild. Maybe just during Italian car show. The Volvo is such a discreet looking car and I would miss it easily if i am not paying enough attention. I dont get to see many older Renaults around here though.

Nice! They're all very clean and they've got great presence. Great pics, too!
Thanks Scottimus. Agreed about each and everyone of them has great presence.

I applaud Solido for making interesting and overlooked subjects. I guess same goes to other relatively young makers like KK-Scale, Triple9, MCG etc. I think before Ottomobile came along and made resin mainstream, the traditional diecast makers tend not to take risk and produce obscure subjects that might not sell. I won't have imagine having Renault 17, Fuego and the 21 Turbo in my collection when i started 10 plus years ago.

These stickers are the certificate of insurance and the tax on registration. So if a car has these on it is registered but the licence plates are generic “21 Turbo” typical of an unregistered car (No vanity plates in France). So nice details yes but somehow inconstant.

Thanks for the clarification @Arnage!

I keep forgetting that the 21 was actually sold in the US (or at least a federalized version was) as the Renault / Eagle Medallion in both sedan and wagon form.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one in person.

Oh wow, I didn't realize that. Now that I look at photos of the US version, it's possible I may have seen one before, but it looks so bland, I doubt I would have paid any attention to it.

The body-colored trim, side skirts, wheels, and lowered stance make it look almost like a different car entirely.

Great post Jazzy. You're right about the Alfa, you don't see many around any more (a friend's parents had one when they were new, I went for a ride in it and thought it was fantastic). And this morning I saw an immaculate Alfa 166 on the way to work - how many of those do you see? And that Renault model is very good for a budget model.

For some reasons when i first learned about Solido's Renault 21 turbo in silver the side profile reminds me of the old VK Commodore...

I guess they ticked all the boxes.. square shaped, 80s and silver! 😁

Old Alfas are indeed a rare sight on the road. I normally get treated to Alfa heaven during classic car shows or Italian car day. The Alfa 155 is coming out soon (along with few other classic beauties from Triple9, Audi 100 series and Volvo 164) and im looking forward to them.

@jazzy426 - Laudo offers the 155, in Q4 form. It’s nice but I think they goofed up on the rear bumper. Do you know which generation of Audi 100 they’re producing? I hope it’s the 1982 one :)

I always thought the Renault 21 looked a bit like this, the Talbot Tagora from the early 80s… which also looks a bit like the Volvo 850 :)

No pic of the Volvo 164 yet.. and im quite excited about the announcement tbh since that will be a cheaper alternative to the more expensive DNA collectibles.
