Hey, Raidou! What type of putty or cement are you using? I was curious what you recommend?
For modelizing I use a 2-component clay:

For the fine work and levelling I recommend automotive putty:

After an unusual long rest period I finally went on today:

First I reworked the upper shape of kidneys which was too straight. The transition to the bonnet is slightly arched now:

Then I went on with the back. The inner fenders were filled and matched to the trunk shell:

Then I applied the C-pillars and the lower rear window frames.

The trunk lid was adjusted and levelled.

After some failed attempts to create a working trunk door I decided to build it static now. Instead I'll try to make an opening back window, since this is the special gimmick on the Touring and more interesting.

I hope this will work easier...

Working trunk door, yes or no...yes or no...??

I decided to give it one more try, but with frame/hinges made of styrene instead of bent iron wire.

First I glued in a seal strip, not only for a better look but for functional requirement:

The tiny metal parts are very strong neodymium magnets. You'll see their task later.

Then I cut, bent, glued and grinded some styrene to shape 'til I got a complete hatch door:

The frame construction is glued from several layers of styrene rods, that makes it much more sturdy. In the upper edges I'll glue the hinges, the openings aside are for the second pair to lift only the window seperately.

Now I "just" have to find the correct angle and point of swivel bearing for an acurate operating.

The door fits well so far:

The frame is located more inwards designedly, because I have to add a smaller frame for the window over it. In this I'll fit another pair of magnets, which will keep the window aligned to the shape of the door in closed condition. At least I hope this will work...

OMG! This is truly amazing. I loved your road going M1 conversion ans this is just as riveting to watch. You should put all these 'builds' together in a book or you should at least have your own 'Raidou' section on this forum.

You're one gifted man

No way I'll be able to that. Not in a million years.

Great/amibitious project. I don't think I've ever seen a 1/18 scale station wagon (except for a crappy W210 e-class) and this generation 5 series is among my favorites!

Yes, there is an "update" but not what you might expect.
The project died when it felt off my shelf.

The roof construction is broken, I have to do it all once again.

Maybe one day I'll start a 2nd run but not too soon.
