I just picked up this model from my local Wal-Mart. I was very surprised 'cause the only models they've had for 7 or 8 months have been the Hot Wheels Porsche 911's and Hot Wheels Ferrari 550 Barchetta's. Anyway, here is my review on the Z4 by Maisto.

Paint: The paint on the Z4 is actually very well done. Mine is a charcoal metallic but it also comes in metallic blue and red. Even though the charcoal paint is metallic, it's not over done to where it looks cheap. There are no rough spots and the coverage is pretty good. Good job by Maisto. 7

Exterior:The exterior is well done too. There are no wide panel gaps and the only use of a sticker is the center rear light. I don't think it's out of scale but it might be. It looks a little big next to my BG 2004 F-150. Parts fit together good and Maisto did a really good job replicating the unique exterior of the Z4. The only problem I have with the exterior is the mirrors. They are the most flexible I think I have ever seen. As with the rest of the car, the lights are very stylish but somewhat strange. Front lights are detailed nicely but have mounting posts although they do blend in well. Rear lights are replicated well too. They too have visible mounting posts. Rear center light is a sticker. Even though the exterior has some faults, every detail of the "flaming surface" design is there, great job Maisto. 7

Interior: The interior of the Z4 is just as unique as the exterior. Maisto did a great job on both the instruments and the rest of the dash board. Pedals are OK but not the best from Maisto. Seats have a little bit of softness but not as soft as they should be, Maisto has done better. There are seat belts and the buckles are painted red. The interior looks really cool in black with silver accents. 6

Wheels/Brakes: The wheels are unmarked as usual but do have the correct tread. Rims look nice but you can see where they broke them off the mold gate. The little BMW logo's on them are neatly applied. Brakes are nothing special, the discs don't turn and the calipers are fixed to the discs but at least their not cheap shiney chrome. 4

Engine/Undercarriage Detail: When you first open the hood, it looks as if the engine is somewhat detailed. But, it's just a piece of plastic. One piece of solid plastic with some chrome thing on the left side of it. I still haven't figured out what that chrome thing is :? The underside of the hood does have a black heat shield. Underneath the car isn't much better. The exhaust is OK but notthing like AUTOart of course. 3

Competition: Maisto, Kyosho, Motormax, and Ricko all make the Z4. 3

Desirablility: The model isn't rare but it is a nice addition to any collection. 4

Overall: While the Kyosho is obviously the best, the Maisto is great for people that don't want to spend $50 on a car they like, but not adore. It's not expensive, I only paid $16 for mine, and it has pretty good detail. So go out and buy one! 34/50

Nice review, Thanks!
I have had this car in my hands a few times @$10but always put it back.
The interior just leaves me cold.
I agree whith what you said about Maisto being good value.
I buy cars from them that I don't like enough to spend $50 + for.

:iagr: Great work, FordGT. That's a really good review :sm: I really appreciate your using the model rating system that myself, Ivan and a few others came up with. I think that the score sounds realistic given your description of it. Thanks again.

BTW, I think that that "chrome thing" is supposed to be a heat reflector. It isn't well simulated because the one in the real car is smaller and slightly flexible.

Yeah, I know what you mean... I want at least 18-20 models that are coming out within the next couple months.

bugatti's
ford's
chevy's
bmw's
dodge's
and lamborghini's

So many to buy, so little money
