I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the quality is like on models from a manufacturer called Chrono.

Maybe relative to other, better-known model makers like Bburago, Maisto, Hotwheels, Kyosho...

I am looking at the Ferrari 512 Bburago. I can't afford to drop the cash for the Kyosho version, which I'm sure is very nice indeed, but I want this car in my model collection.

Can anyone offer some feedback?
Thanks in advance!

Pretty Bad.
Just to give you an example on how bad they can be just look at there Lotus Elise GT-1, considered by many here to be the apitamy of a bad model.

The Chronos is a lot less money than the Kyosho for a very good reason.
It is not as good :wink

I guess it depends what your threshold for budget models is, if having a lesser version of the car is not as bad as not having one at all, then go right ahead. The Kyosho version is rather old and hardly up to the current standards anyway.

I would say go for it and enjoy it :cheers

It's pretty poor I'm afraid, even for a budget model. The Kyosho version has been around for awhile, and I'm sure if you look around you might find one for a great price. If you really want a 512BB in your collection it is the only game in town as far as I'm concerned!

I've been collecting 1:18ths for nearly 10 years now and the one thing I have learned over time is that trying to save money on cheaper models is a major false economy, as you end up saving 10, 20, maybe 30 dollars now but forever wish you had the better model. Often I know (and I've done it too) collectors later on end up buying the more expensive but higher quality model (if they really like the car it represents) anyway, so that's even more expense. Essentially I'm saying go for quality over quantity every time in 1:18ths (better to have a small collection of superb models than a huge collection of below par models) even if it means delaying the purchase for awhile until you can afford the more expensive model :mine :cheers

I agree at the same time with Ronan and Max P.
I only saw this Bburago from Chrono once, and I remember prettty well that I dont like it
But I have a model from Chrono that I like a lot, is the Aston DB5.
I have 3 DB5's, 1 from AUTOart and 2 from Chrono (this metalic blue and a red-bordeaux).
I have to say that I prefer the Chrono, and I dont know why :happy

Another great wizard wheeze from Ronan again, i really do agree with you on the "Wait unill the better quality version comes out" theory, that is what i am doing with the AUTOart Porsche 911GT3, taking that over the Hotwheels version, and the same thing withy the Cobra Concept.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I really appreciate it.

One follow-up question: can anyone confirm for sure that Kyosho actually makes it in red? I've seen a lot of black and silver, and while those are very nice, neither is red.

The 512BB, as far as I've seen, is still in the old non-Hot Wheels boxes. I believe Kyosho is re-releasing them this year, so wait a bit and look for them in toy shows and conventions, as I've noticed the prices are much better at those places.

I picked up a Kyosho Ferrari 328 (broken base tho) for $50CAD, and the mint ones were only 60-70CAD! Usually these things AT LEAST sell for $80CAD.
