My first post. Just got this model. Overall very satisfied with it. Only thing not really happy about is the large gap between hood and grill/lights. I especially dislike the gap above the 3 pointed star. Don't know how it can leave the factory like that. Hood is closed as far as possible already. I know it's pretty hard to get everything right, being hand made out of copper and all, but for the price, one would expect perfection. End or rant. :pullhair Anyone with the same model with the same "gap"?
Best part of the model, the engine :happy

Various collectors have mentioned the gap on the hood of the CMC SLR and it seems to be the problem for the silver version only. I have the silver one myself and there seems to be a gap on one side and not the other. It's visible on close inspection but it isn't really that noticeable. You may want to try to push the hood in more to minimise the gap.

I'm sure you're well aware that the mechanism for opening the hood is quite complex and I'm not surprised that there would be some flaws in making it a perfect fit. I can tolerate it but I'm sure that there are others that can't. :giggle

Another than that, you should enjoy a very nice model. :cheers

First off, welcome to the DX Forum!
:welcome The engine is sure a sight to behold. :tongue :tongue It's a real shame there is that large hood gap. For the price of a CMC model, I too would expect a really tight fit between all body panels.

Hi Chappy. Beautiful model. I've noticed that this gap is more evident on later production runs which include the two colors I'm most interested in, silver and black. This is making me delay getting an SLR. The earlier colors, red and blue, has little or no gap on most of the samples I've seen. I think it's a model that, if possible, you should hand pick yourself since the problem is random to varying degrees. Vegasracer has a perfect silver SLR. :cheers

Also, I just read yesterday that the 1:1 SLR will be made in black and silver only during the first two production years. So for now, all the other CMC colors are fantasy cars until then.

:welcome aboard chappy! :cheers

It's a shame to see such a fine model with a hood like that. As others already have said, unfortunately this is rather common. Can you exchange the car for another?

ok... i got the initial release.. the blue one.. and mine had several small "flaws" the gaps where like that on each side.. one more so then the other and the front star was placed crooked.. now.. i found it to be now trouble to fix the hood..

I grabbed my mom's hairdryer.. put it on low and warmed the hood up and used my fingers to apply gentle pressure to the hood until i got it into the spots i wanted it. I figure with these being shipped overseas that the climates changed and warps the copper a little.. no big deal and something i feel is NOT a QC issue.. but something we just have to deal with. this happens because the copper is soo thin.. hopefully this helps.. like i said.. you would never know that mine came with huge gaps.. sits flush now!!

Great model except for the gap. Too bad your fist post has to be about a defect in an otherwise very good model from an excellent company! I would be very mad myself, there is absolutely no excuse for CMC to release a $200 model with such an obvious flaw! Sure the occasional mistake slips through but from the other posts this seams to be the rule rather than the exception. :pullhair

Sorry to hear about the poor QC on your SLR, these seem to have had their share of issues. I guess its because its CMC's first modern car abd they are still learning?

Hello chappy...welcome to DX....
I have the black CMC SLR and there is no gap visible, what I do have is that one of the doors don't close properly...I have to push it down several times before it closes...
Also have a black SLR by Maisto and this one has a small gap...but it's a Maisto, so no big deal....
:cheers

Thank you for the welcome guys.

I should consider myself lucky actually. I got it at the same time as my friend. Both Silver. His serial number is about 1000 later than mine. His SLR has the following issues:
1/ a simlar "hole" above the 3 pointed star at the front
2/ superglue white "fume marks all over interior, especially on dash
3/ very visible gap between top of instrument cluster and dash
3/ superglue fingerprint mark on the side of the dash
4/ superglue marks on front wheel arch inside engine bay
5/ left tail light cover crooked, meaning there is a visible gap between the cover and the bodywork.
6/ Overall finish not as good, eg. paint on gear lever, handbrake placement etc.
Imagine his reaction when he took the model out of the box! :help

He has managed to get a replacement though, which is good. Just that he needs to pay freight to send the model overseas first before he can his replacement.

I will take some photos of his model before he sends it back and post it in another thread.

:welcome aboard to the best diecast forum in the universe, Chappy.
Sorry to hear about problem with the SLR. It was a most wanted model on DX when news of it came out. Terrible to hear of your friend's woes with the same model. Thats a total QC disaster at CMC. Good thing he is getting it replaced.

Recently got mine. I thought at first it had the same problem, but i pushed the hood and forced it. Now the gaps are just perfect. Maybe try pushing the hood down, don't be scared.
