When you see an image on the screen, perhaps an original photograph or a model that you are interested in buying is it what you think it should be.
Several times recently I noticed posted photos representing the same car with entirely different shades.
And then there's peoples perspective on describing the colour they are looking at.

This is described on the page as being yellow.
I would describe it as green.
I bought one, and it's green..... :>)

I'm also trying to colour match a car with Irish links which is a little bit obscure, and I can't get a definitive answer on the shade.
Feel free to add your experiences.

One thing I was really disappointed about was the GT Spirit Police / Polizei Audi RS4 model, the Blue GTS used is way too light, much brighter than the real car. So I didn't buy one.
They also messed up the Green with Gold wheels ABT RS4, both colours were completely wrong.

Also, OttO Mobile have never got a Ford Blue right (or a White) their Ford Focus RS Mk1 was the wrong shade, meant to be Imperial Blue, but they got it wrong. Their 'Imperial Blue' Ford Escort RS Cosworth was not correct either.
Their Diamond White cars always seem a 'Creamy White' too. In real life the cars aren't like that.

I would blame a clear coat for the change.
I will usually put such a paint over just about any colour - but never over white.
Every clear coat I have used, automotive or hobby, will cause a slight yellowing when cured.
Case in point - my RS200 Lombard RAC rally model has really bad sections where excess paint was sprayed.
There does not seem to be a way around the problem, in 35+ years in kit building.

Just so I can understand: is this topic about the difference in color we perceive on an object, whether looking at it in person or on screen?

If so, then that is down to color temperature in the environment where the photo was taken. The results can be even more inconsistent when the photo is taken under artificial lighting, which is the case for most promotional images including those of model cars.

If you also consider that every computer screen is set up differently - color profile, resolution, even the tilt angle - and also that the human eye perceives colors slightly different from one person to the next, then it's impossible to have a perfect image representation of the color of an object.

Of course the odds are always in the favour of those with the (generous) budget for quality photographic equipment - despite people preaching that you don't need any of that to make color accurate, quality images.

It's really an open invitation to comment on any issues around colours in relation to the hobby.
It's well known that many computer monitors are unreliable sources of accurate colour representation.
And that many people are colour blind, and may not even know it.
It's also a thread for posting any guaranteed paint names - and RAL or pantone codes - helpful to those of us who might like to change the paint on models.
I've used these people for accurate paint matches over the years, they can even make up an individual spray paint can in the colour you specify.

Upon reading the first few lines of your post, I thought clearly the subject was the "it's orange on the photo but red in person" kind of issue. I see now I should have waited for the answer.

My apologies, but the first two lines of your post led me to believe that perhaps it wasn't a well known fact to you, hence my attempt at clarifying it.

And that many people are colour blind, and may not even know it.
I only mentioned the fact that the human eye perceives colors slightly different from one person to another, and that could be one of the reasons why some people see variations on the same color.

It would be very silly of me to even suggest the issue with color representation on images has anything to do with color blindness, which is a genetic disorder.

Thank you for clarifying what this discussion is also about. Please disregard my previous post (#5), and if I have any such information to those of you who might like to change the paint on your models, I'll be sure to pass it along.

No problem cwbs, I accept some of the blame for not being as clear on some of the intent in my first post.
My nephew discovered he was colour blind when I showed him discrepancies in paint I put on a build several years back.
I had to redo a door which I dropped, and although I thought I had followed the same paint regime it didn't match exactly.
