Shelby Mustang GT500KR Custom build
I was never very happy with the out of the box paint job on the Shelby GT500KR, so that was the main reason for the rebuild.
I had initially saved the strips and had the car painted a very cool shade of dark blue pearl. However, after a light wetsand,
when I applied the clear over the car, it had a strange reaction with the factory striping…oddly, the clear seemed to not want
to adhere uniformly, so the striping ended up looking like crap. With that I scrapped the paint job and took the model down
to bare metal. I am actually very pleased with the end result and while I would have loved to have retained the GT500KR
striping, I like the whole build nonetheless. Here are shots of the entire build from start to finish.
Where the car started its life
Test fitting the new wheels
Second stripdown after the fiasco with the clear over the stock striping. Note the bumper color was what the body of the car
was initially repainted in.
Final version of the interior. With the dark blue repaint, the seat centers, console, and dash trim were all a deep shade of blue.
Love the color combo here.
The final build. If anyone can suggest a place to buy 1:18 scale brake parts, I'd appreciate it! (pref. P.E parts)
