Last of the record models for now and here is the Replicarz 1/18, 2018, Danny Thompson, Challenger 2, in Dark blue. This really is a beautiful model, with such a great colour to it, very eye catching, it's the latest release from Replicarz.

Let me try - can't remember where I read about this...

As we all know back in the early 60s Mickey Thompson had bad luck with his Challenger I and never was able to get the official LSR.
(Although the car had prooved that it truly had the potential...)

Mickey didn't give up and came back with a new car called "Autolite Special". This new vehicle had a similar arrow-like design like the Summers Brothers' "Goldenrod" a few years ago. Again it was not meant to be a success story and when Sponsor Ford in 1968 withdrew from the project (and from almost every racing activities) this seemed to be the end of this story. The Autolite Special got stored and was more or less forgotten.

Then in 2010 - after 42 years - Mickey's son Danny Thompson took the chance to restore the car, renamed it in "Challenger 2" and targeted the LSR for piston engined cars.
On Aug 12th 2018 Danny reached a new official land speed record for piston engined cars with 448mph - almost exactly 50 after his father's first attempt with exactly the same car!

How cool is this?

Yes, sadly this is true.
Mickey and his wife were murdered in 1988 in front of their home (California) by 2 contract killers who came on bicycles(!). It is told that they had been hired by a former business partner of Mickey who was at odds with him. I think the guy was sentenced years later but always protested to be innocent. The killers have never been found…

WOW, what a beautiful piece of motoring Art this is. Just landed today and boy it's a really nice and well detailed model. It's the Autoart 1/18 2009 Pagani Zonda R, in Carbon Black, AA78261. Let the photos do the talking cos this is well worthy of any collection-period...... Photo heavy but worth it.

Up next is the Huge (put a 1/18 model in front of it to show some kind of size) Minichamps 1/4, 2004 V.Rossi, Yamaha YZR-M1, #46,Moto GP Philip Island World Champion in Blue. This is a Great looking model and in the photos looks so good. However in front of me it screams Plastic... although very nice it is too plasticky. I think Minichamps has missed the chance to add metal parts to make this a real treasure, missed opportunity me thinks and a real shame. I bought this to go with the 1/4 Pocher Ducati i have but not built yet and i am sure they will look so good together, just a shame the whole bike is plastic. The wheels spin but the chain doesn't move as that is plastic and non of the levers or handles work.
