Over the years these guidelines have become fragmented and deeply buried within the caverns of DX. I thought I'd bring them all together and pin them here so they'd be easily referenced by everyone.

Signature Banners

A 'signature' is attached to the footer of every message you post unless you choose to check the box that allows you to omit the signature in the message you are posting.

You may test your Signature in the DX Banners and Signatures Forum.

To protect the integrity of the forums layout, Signature Guidelines(Facts) are as follows.

jpeg Signatures
Maximum size should be 610x150 & 55KB Limit.

Anything over this is discretionary and is subject to be removed.

Animated Signatures (gif & png)
Maximum size should be 350x150 & 55KB Limit.

If you use more than one image, the total must fit within these guidelines.

Once again, anything over this is discretionary and is subject to be removed.

Written signatures

We know that you might want to mention some your new adds etc, and that's fine - however some members seem to list every item in their collection, this is not permitted.
You are more than welcome to start a collection thread to show them though.

Hosting of Signature
Please do not host/upload your signatures on DX's Servers, please use your own server or an alternative host for this.

Any banner found to be hosted on DX Servers will be deleted without notice to the member.

Avatars

Your avatar must be no bigger than 170 pixels high by 210 pixels wide in size.

Uploaded avatars from your computer must be no larger than 180 KB.

The following file types are allowed: gif, jpeg, jpg, swf, png

Picture Size

Uploaded cannot exceed 1024 x 768.

File size cannot be more than 250KB.

(No restriction on size of linked thumbnail images.)

Thanks for the reminder. I just confirmed that my sigs are kept at www.imagecave.com, and I highly recommend it for all DX users.
Good idea, Matt. I don't know that we've ever enforced this rule and within reason don't think we would just delete someone's banner hosted at DX. This isn't as important now that we use so much caching, but every little but does help so if everyone could just take a minute and check that their banner is not hosted at DX, it would be appreciated. DX moves a massive amount of bandwidth every month and it's quite expensive.

Justin,

when i want to add the thumbnail code from the photobucket, and the link is like this:

http://s5.photobucke...7/r390_1_59.jpg

the forum software automaticaly changes the "A A" word to the "AUTOart", so the link changes and the photoes wont works.

how can i fix this?
Oh shoot. I'm afraid the only way around it is to change the image name.

Just thought I'd give this a bump, since it seems far too many members either don't know about it or are ignoring it. I'm getting tired of sending out half a dozen or so PMs asking people to resize their banners and avatars every day, and I'm close to the point of just removing them without warning. Whether you like them or not, the rules are there, and they have to be applied equally and fairly to everyone here.

mox, I think part of the reason why nobody is following the rules is because on the guidelines in the User CP do not match up with the rules outlined here. For avatars, the upload page recommends a picture of 200px or larger, and the signature upload page says that pictures can be of any size. I think if the User CP were updated to reflect the maximum sizes allowed, it would be a lot less hassle for everyone involved

Wanted to re-pin this topic after hearing a warning from Jeff. Everyone, please - before changing your signature, make sure it fits those guidelines, if not, it can be removed without warning.

Seems like a good time to bump this. If your signature and/or avatar does not fit the limits please take the time to make it right.

I will start removing those that do not fit.

I HAVE started. If you are missing your avatar or signature, this is the reason. Make sure your stuff fits.

Excessive signatures will also be downsized. Assume the image and maybe 1 or 2 lines are OK, anything more is subject for deletion. We are here to read info and look at photos….not you massive list of models you want, have, or incoming.
