Hey everyone!!!! This is a great page that sets up our guidelines for photos throughout this amazing and lovely forum. Please take a moment to read these limits on photos. Then, check you avatar and signature. If they are too large they should be resized. Also, I will be going through various threads and checking posted photos.

These guidelines have been here before I was a member. And I do what I can to adhere to them. I hope everyone here will do the same. It should not be too much trouble to resize your photos before sharing.

Well then we shall all start paying attention and deleting if over spec:

Picture Size

Picture size regardless of linked or uploaded cannot exceed 1024 x 768.

File size cannot be more than 250KB.

(No restriction on size of linked thumbnail images.)

Is there a short way to stick by the guidelines without doing too much of a rework. So here is how I usually post images (not just DX but all forums).

1. Upload picture to Flickr / photobucket at full res.
2. Copy link and post it here. I can definitely agree on the image dimension restriction. We can easily post smaller images.

But how do I make sure the image itself is 250 KB? I have to re upload all images with a smaller size manually again? Also my bad I did not notice the image size restriction for posts, deleting all images would result in quite a lot of rework can we have some sort an exception of older posts? We can definitely look towards posting new ones within the guidelines.

I do understand that this is intended to make the forums load faster for everyone which is definitely a good thing.

Just a quick question regarding the avatar picture size limit, I've just resized the image to 195 wide by 174 high and the image size is 15K (15507 Bytes), does this image now comply with the rules ? Also with the picture size limit, I use photobucket and their maximum size limit is 1024 x 768, does this also comply with the rules ?... I'm a novice when it comes to these things so any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Yes and yes.

We were getting off-sized avatar images that were too big and too heavy....I was a guilty party as well. Anything under 50kb for an avatar would be greatly preferred.

Hmm. That would mean I would have to have 2 copies of the image. I usually upload the full res (24MP) to flickr for storage / sharing. I dont save those images in the disk, so now I would have to upload a high res and upload a lower res to post in the forums. Or I could use Thumbnails.

One thing that some of you guys could be missing is that the avatar uploader does not automatically resize the image that you upload, or even check how big it is. It just scales it down, while still loading the full sized image. We are trying to get this plugin installed soon that will take care of it but for now, the only way to make sure that it is within the limits is to check it before you upload it.
