I've seen a lot of comments about the exhausts of this model. Can someone please explain what is wrong with the exhausts ?

Apart from the tubes / pipes being filled by some weird looking contraption, I can't find anything wrong with the exhausts.

If it's just the filled tubes / pipes, it's very easy to drill these out or to replace them with metal tubes.

Honestly there is absolutely nothing wrong with the 458. Some think the exhausts look cheap, maybe they should have been drilled em out but whatever - if they are that fussy then let em fuss.

Other issues people complain about are the half windows (cry me a river why dont cha) and the paint quality on some have bubbles or not layered properly when you compare the paint job of AUTOart or Kyosho (oh wait lets talk about paint rash). Others have been known to call anything HWE as toys. Well guess what all diecasts are toys. It's the collector that puts it on a pedestal based on how much they enjoy the model.

IMHO there is absolutely nothing wrong with the 458. I love all of mine. They were mass produced to be affordable to the present day collector - though looking at the prices it seems to now be in parallel to the kyosho prices. They weren't high-end like a super elite but nor did they lack in the lack of details on the foundation line. I'm sure otherwise will chime in on their views.

I imagine it should be easy enough to drill out the exhausts yourself, or at least dot some black paint in there or something, if its solid chrome plastic.

Nothing wrong with a little customization to improve a detail or two!

My only real disappointment with HWEs is the dog leg hinges, which really don't bother most folks. I am just excessively picky, haha. Though to be fair, those dog legs are probably a lot less fragile than AUTOart's realistic hinges. I have seen plenty of those broken.

Thanks for the info.

I've taken a close look at the 3 HWEs that I have (1 coupe and 2 spiders) and the problem with the exhausts is only on the coupe.

The dogles hinges are an easy fix, just use a file to sand them down to a smaller size.

What bothers me the most is the large black border that Hot Wheels has painted on the outside of the front window. It's way too big and it should be on the inside.
