This was an iconic hot hatch of the 80`s and I for one am so happy Sunstar have decided to release it.

Maybe they might get around to the RS1600i or even the RS Turbo versions next .

Amazing! When did Sunstar annonce this? Since they seem to be doing so many good Fords, I wonder if they'll get around to Cortina MKIIIs :cheers

Minichamps have also announced an XR3i - in 1:43 - so I won't be feeling left out :happy

I think they will be doing the Cabrio version as well.

Ahhh,the very vehicle that is the reason i m on these boards today(and i do nt mean because i was concieved on the back seat of one :giggle

My cousin had a brand,spanking new XR3 in black back in May of 1981,when he was 23 i was 14 and i thought then it was the most gorgeous thing i d ever seen!!
He took me to Santa Pod in it for the May bank holiday nationals and my life changed forever.My veins filled with fuel and i was hooked.
God bless Sunstar and their out of the box thinking.I ll have a 1965-78 mark 1 Ford Transit custom as well please!

So there's already a Mk1 Golf GTi and a Peugeot 205 GTi both in 1:18 and now we have an XR3. :happy Another car that many model maker's woild have never bothered doing, good one on SunStar.

Wonder if anyone will do a 1:18 MG Maistro Turbo? :lol

I was more of a Golf GTi fan myself but this will sell like hot cakes in Ireland and the UK I'd say!

Most model car collectors in Dublin that buy locally tend to favour Fords, Opels, Minis and so on, and the MkII Escorts that Sunstar currently do are very popular. Hence I'd say this MkIII Escort will be no exception.

The only "high end" models that sell well at Irish retail prices such as AUTOarts are the likes of the Lotus Cortinas which my local shop can't get enough of. Lots of Irish Ford fans out there! Probably due to the connection with Cork in the south of Ireland, where Henry Ford's parents lived before emigrating to the US, and where there was a large Ford factory up until 1984. Ford dominated the Irish market for years and hence still has a very loyal and strong following in the Irish market :cheers
